I think I said that quite some time ago earlier in this thread.

Pep ("Ignore" means ignorance.)

Not that I like to quibble, but I said that Cristo had said so. One could infer from your post that you were only theorizing.

I will admit that I missed the fact that I duplicated Maureen's post in an inferior way.

I don't remember saying that I was ignoring you. On Jig's thread, I said I was ignoring a man on SC, but not by using the ignore list. That man isn't you. If I'm not mistaken, I've replied to you each time you addressed me directly.

I also pointed out that no one is obliged to be absolute in their ignoring. William James said, "Wisdom is learning what to overlook."

No, not funny at all.
OK, point taken and I apologize if anyone was offended.

BUT.

I firmly believe that life on teh interwebz is much improved if "griefing", bullying, insults, whatever you want to call them, are either ignored or mocked. People always respond so seriously to Pep, he certainly doesn't seem to take HIMSELF that seriously. He generally responds rather well to a little mocking.

Also, note that Pep is very efficient in his insults - he only troubles to insult those who seem to care. Good God, I've lectured Pep rather severely and he doesn't make fun of Nika or Litta, both almost cartoon avatars by realism standards. He knows I would either laugh at him or possibly join in. Right after the one he insulted turned into a dragon and sat on him.

Laughter is good. Hurt is bad.

Rhonda is strong, and I was not dissing her. I was trying to point a way out of this cycle ... laughter works.

I won't quibble with you either, since I wasn't particularly saying "yah boo sucks" (in my inimitably intellectual fashion) to *you* but to the combined posters who had not bothered (as I had) to check the registration and seen that the site was up for renewal - and I don't know of any registrars that allow claim-jumping any more (they would lose too much credibility and revenue) so it was obvious that Cristo had made an oversight.

Pep (I have a nasty habit of being right on the minimum of information - and I don't make a drama out of nothing either, as some appear to.)

PS I know that I am not on *your* ignore list - that is why I posted in response to you rather than anyone else! :p

PPS I am enjoying your "Letters to my father" too; a clever way of avoiding even the remotest possibility of hurting your family.

You can put up as many vanity pics of Gabrielle Drake, Wanda Ventham, Anouska Hempel and the rest of the SHADO team, as you like, as far as I am concerned.

Pep (Still trying to work out who the other one - not Gabrielle - is in this pic.)

PS Must be Antonia Ellis

Hmmm. He could use a proxy server and get in, but I wouldn't try that with any of the well-known proxy servers anytime soon, in case they're actually watching traffic. A couple of other alternatives include smartphones and, for the computer literate, setting up something like Hamachi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamachi) to one's own home computer - effectively, running your own proxy service.

For a long time at my work, SL forums got caught in the filter as "Chat/Games" and were blocked, but I could get to SLU. Then they added more filtering and tightened stuff even more and now SLU gets the same "Chat/Games" block. :(

So then I was using GoToMyPC to remote back to my home computer and read the forums from there. Then the damn security folks tightened things even more, and I can now no longer get to gotomypc.com or logmein.com.

I've since set my home PC up for a very tightly restricted Remote Admin access and will use that when I'm back in the office after my leave.

Most of our larger office locations have started putting an "internet lobby" in various loations with a wirless, dirty internet connection. Anyone can use their personal devices from there. We do not have that at my primary office tho :(

19. Bypass School or Work Website Blocks

What is a horrific situation for an average computer user is a simple irritation for an everyday geek. To bypass a website block/filter, simply enter that websites IP address in instead of the actual site address.

Oh - thanks for explaining. I just spent most of my lunch hour thinking you were miffed with me. I appreciate what you said about the blog. I'm still trying to figure out something I can do a bit more long term. I need to find an approach I'm comfortable with.

Using your own PC is the best was to work around work's filters. By doing this you don't risk work being tracked via cookies and web history because all of that is on your home computer.
Microsoft's Remote Desktop Client, which comes with Windows XP Professional, Windows Server 2000, 2003, 2008 and Windows Vista for Business and Ultimate is an option if you use MS products.
