or is this one better? My monitor/graphics are no good at all, so it's hard for me to tell:

well, the other has people in it, this is just a black square. On my screen at least. Just like your forum avatar stubbornly remains after all this time.

heh. I copied and pasted the image link above to a different window. Still a black square on my screen.

According to the ODNB, it was dedicated initially to Pope, then to "A certain poetess," and finally to "A friend." My suspicion is that the changes were made precisely because he was afraid that his (female) readers wouldn't appreciate the sarcasm.
Fixed it for ya!

Point 3 must be wrong as my kids call me "No-one"

Pep (Because "No-one is perfect".)
Lol. Come to think about it, I seem to remember at least one of my kids calling me "no-one". (Because "No one calls it that.";)

From: Pserendipity Daniels

PS Actually you explained it yourself in an earlier post. The word "else" is assumed; people tend to leave a lot of assumed words out in English. For instance, in one of my earlier posts it would have made huge sense if I had said something like, in full, "No-one is as aggressive in the (current teams in the) NFL as those LA Raiders (of the 1980s.)"
Yes, I see that sentence makes sense - even without the parenthetical insertions. Unless I know that an individual is one of a group to whose members he or she is being compared it is logical to assume the individual is not a member of that group.

When you compare specific people to everyone who posts here it is impossible for me to assume that those individuals do not post here if I know they do.

Now I'm wondering if this is one of those deals where the rule in the UK is different from that in the US. At the school I attended it was emphasized that the word "else" or "other" could NOT be omitted or considered to be implied in a sentence where a member of a group is being compared to all members of the group.

At http://books.google.com/books?id=8dbDjgc7voIC&pg=PA105&lpg=PA105&dq=grammar+exclusive+part+of+group+else&source=bl&ots=bI5aA9uuAm&sig=-0w2xpn-CP9Q6DNyGh90MhBVjqQ&hl=en&ei=UfT4SraYM4jdnAe7lv2BDQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CBEQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=&f=false you can scroll down to the "OTHER AND ELSE" section to see a description of U.S. usage.

Lovely top, Rhonda but your own loveliness outshines it.

I loved it too, and I was just joshin' about the need to buy new dances ^^.
Oooh! Lol.

This other video is one of my all time favourites with regards to dancing without a care in the world. Make sure to watch till the end ...

This was me at the last concert in the park I attended. Nobody joined in with me but everyone near me smiled and seemed to be glad I was having fun. (And other people were dancing in other areas.) Thanks for the link. I think the world would be a better place if more of us got together and danced like this more often.

i would love to see something new from you guys also..... soon. :)
Yes!

Rhonda you made me laugh and admire your wit even more than I did before.

There is no transatlantic difference. My examples were to highlight the accuracy of "none" . . . "is" . . . "those" rather than to introduce red herrings about "other" and "else". Dopey's two sentences make complete sense if the context is changed so that in the first case The Godfather was not considered to be a modern movie and if in the second case Coppola was not present - and it is the grammar construction that I was focusing on rather than the content in my example that demonstrated why Threeli were persistently exposing their ignorance.

I've been lurking away for the past few days so I thought I should say "Hello".

hmm - 10:30 here, but I am getting ready to run out to take care of some errands and was trying to decide what to get for lunch while I'm out. I'm thinking Chipotle sounds really good or maybe a philly from the only place in town that actually knows how to make them right.

MMmmmm... pizza for brekkie... POST OF THE DAY!

Josh, that dorky guy dancing video was hilarious! Brings back memories of many fun concerts... The person with the camera needs a tripod desperately, though.

3Ring, where is the crazy house? That's dang creepy.

Lil... get a life. ;)
