OK, again. Slowly.

"None" is a singular noun. It is a shortened form of "no one" from the Old English.

It takes the singular form of the verb.

The singular form of the verb "to be" is "is" not "are".

You are wrong, as was Eli.

Pep (Now you are making an even bigger fool of yourself, again.)

yeah and when you attached that singular noun to "those" (a plural) later in the quote, you goofed. der.

/me pokes her head tentatively over the parapet . . .

I hate to say it . . . (I REALLY hate to say it) . . . but Pep is right on this one. "None" is the subject of the sentence, and is singular, so "is" is correct.

/me ducks hurriedly again . . .

Oh definitely comfort food. Mashied and corn...I used to put the corn in the potatoes when I was a kid. Plus the leftovers....yummy. A hunk of the loaf on a crusty roll with brown gravy... :)

did someone say brown gravy?

OH MY GOD I AM SO HUNGRY NOW!

why oh why did i choose today to be the beginning of a temp carb free diet?

Actually, I have it on just about everything (my mum is English). It's DEFINITELY good on potatoes. But it's not really bbq-y; more sort of curry-ish.

I didn't "attach" it to "those" as I pointed out in an exemplary expansion of the sentence structure, which I will repeat for your edification:

"There is no one person as stupid as all those named Eli Schlegal".

There you are. It all makes complete sense to me, and everyone else . . .

Pep ( . . . but you and Eli.)

He he. I did a bit of a twist last night...instead of mashed, I made some latkes..aka potato pancakes..and biscuits..and spread it all out on the plate and poured gravy all over it.

This is really not a good thread to be reading right now . . .

Latkes would be good with HP. But with sour cream . . . mmmmmmm.

(Some people use apple sauce though, right?)

Not nearly.

It goes well with meat and potatoes.

Or, mix it 50/50 with Worcestershire sauce

and apply liberally to french fries. Mmmmm!

in fact, my Gram had us putting applesauce on our potatoe pancakes. i still really only like applesauce on any pancakes, to this day. i'll "try" syrups or jam, but applesauce is the bomb.

HP is sort of a combination of the two, I've always thought

I use it along with Malt Vinegar at a local pub on their fish and chips.

I'll give ya $L100 if you can prove you had it all done WITHOUT novocaine! :D

I had 4 of my teeth filed down/capped without it. Drilling without it. :p
If I was ever stupid enough to try it without numbing first, I would want a hellova lot more than L$100.

Yes, if you like tobasco, you'll probably like HP. It's less hot, but more tangy.

Oh L and P, which is made right here in New Jersey, is the best. When I am having a steak at a restaurant, the waitr will ask "Do you need steak sauce?"

My response is always "I hope not". I can't see ruining a good hunk of meat with sauces and crap...but L and P is one that I do use frequently depending on the type of steak.

Did you know that the original Lea & Perrins recipe is still a secret? Don't settle for imitations!

As for vinegar . . . not even balsamic???

I wouldn't fall for that either.

Tobasco is a foul substance compared to HP. Just sayin'!
