A quick etiquette / common practice question. When paying DJs for booked services, do you pay them at the beginning of the time slot or at the end?

I usually paid at the end. A couple of times, the DJ made so much in tips and had such a good time, they refused the original fee.

Hmmm - now that would be a nice little extra. Thanks.

And another indication of how poorly some children's education is:
~~~~
In a Seattle Washington college classroom, they were discussing the qualifications to be President of the United States . It was pretty simple - the candidate must be a natural born citizen of at least 35 years of age.
However, one girl in the class immediately started in on how unfair was the requirement to be a natural born citizen. In short, her opinion was that this requirement prevented many capable individuals from becoming president .
The class was taking it in and letting her rant, but everyone's jaw hit the floor when she wrapped up her argument by stating, 'What makes a natural born citizen any more qualified to lead this country than one born by C-section?'
Maybe she had read Macbeth.
ah...Macbeth:
Macbeth: Act 4, Scene 1
Be bloody, bold, and resolute; laugh to scorn
The power of man, for none of woman born
Shall harm Macbeth.
Macbeth: Act 5, Scene 8
Despair thy charm,
And let the angel whom thou still hast served
Tell thee, Macduff was from his mother's womb
Untimely ripp'd.
without having been there to witness it, i feel compelled to say that it sounds like a student with a very interesting sense of humor, having drawn everyone in with the passion in her rhetoric and then dropping in the punchline like a bomb.
(after all, how many of you would have found yourselves laughing with such a great set-up?)
Actually, it depends.
I once worked in a restaurant with a Waitress who was REALLY dumb. Nice girl. Just not very "Bright". Just so you know.... she was a High School grad, 21 years old, head cheerleader in HS too (she had dirty knees) ;)
#1: She brought back the soups & gravies for me to dump out. The beef gravy was cold, so it turned into that lumpish goo like it does. She said it turned bad. I said "No. It just Congealed". She says "Whats that mean?" I said "It solidified". She says "And whats that word mean?"
#2: She's in the breakroom talking to the BF on her phone, who's job requires him to travel. I hear her say "You're driving to Alaska?? Can you do that??" So I point to the calendar map thingy on the wall. Its the one where they squish Alaska & Hawaii down by Mexico. She sees it & says to the BF "OMG! Its right by Mexico! It should be nice & warm down there!" I thought she was joking, but later that night I hear her telling a regular at the restaurant that she was saving money to drive out to visit her friend who moved to Germany with her husband (who's in the Army). *Ahem!!!* We live in PENNSYLVANIA!!!
The look on the customers faces was just PRICELESS!!! :D
So Yes Virginia, some people can really be that dumb!!! :p
I sometimes miss my crappy job at that place. It was SO much fun to talk to another person & have them unable to follow anything you say that uses more than an 8th grade vocabulary level :p
Ok, that & trying to teach the waitresses that "BUKAKKE" is japanese for "Welcome!" for when we had a japanese baseball team visit the area. :D
Who doesn't like the fall weather? Big , comfy sweaters,warm apple cider with brandy, the smell of coffee and bacon on a chilly Sunday morning, football and other "contact sports".....
I still don't get why the US version is called "football." It hardly involves feet at all, and it's a sort of pillow shaped thing, not a ball. I'm sorry -- I tend to think of it as "inarticulate brute slam" or IBS for short. But then, it's no secret I'm ignorant of sports. Even the Olympics are Greek to me.
That was my thought also. She could have had her tongue firmly planted in her cheek as they say. "Natural born citizen" is kind of a silly term when you think about it. George Carlin could have had a lot of fun with it.
I am SO looking forward to the Cartel party. I have friends visiting in RL, but they will probably head out before dark. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed this ailing hard drive doesn't crash again before then - as it has twice in the last couple of weeks.
I still have not decided what to dress up as.
Rin-tin-tin?
Spiderdog?
Chatbot Hal's obedient canine?
I'd better think of something soon.
Good night, thread die hards. Stay warm and fairly flu free.
It got it's name because the ball is a foot long.
DUDE! I live in "STEELER COUNTRY" and have YET to watch ANY sports event.
Quickest turn off for me is when a woman says "GO STEELERS!!" or Penguins.
My life doesnt revolve around guys making Millions by playing "games".
Is that for real? It seems credible enough.
Wikipedia does not mention it, but I know I can't trust Wikipedia. Under American football it says, "A standard football game consists of four 15-minute quarters (12-minute quarters in high-school football and often shorter at lower levels), with a 12 minute half-time intermission after the second quarter." Now that's clearly not true. I happen to know a football game lasts for-freaking-ever!
I know this because when I was a little kid Star Trek was preempted on Monday nights for football. Now you see the real reason I have no use for it.
Thanks for that link! I had seen some of these before but not all. I particularly liked the Cerberus one which I had not seen.
I think the dogs were really all having a blast. Some of them are clearly enjoying the attention.
And now it really is bedtime for puppies.
