I know MAYBE a half dozen types of flowers - all being the more commonly known ones - and pretty much nothing more than the fact that it is a 'rose' or 'tulip' or 'daffadil', etc... Flowers and gardening are NOT my thing at all. I don't even attempt house plants anymore as I just kill them. I have managed to keep the large rose garden outside alive even though I have lived in this house for 11 years now - definitely more than enough time for me to have killed any plant given into my care.

So, don't feel so bad - I am female and I'm SUPPOSED to know that crap. Guys are always forgiven for not knowing stuff like that.

Lil, the fact that you're able to keep those roses alive says something wonderful about you. They are not the easiest to grow by any means. I'm rather good with outdoor plants (indoor is another story, just don't have the knack other than african violets). Roses, were a speciality of mine. Where I am now, is an apartment and although I have a large deck, I'm not sure if I'm going to attempt dealing with them here or not since they will require rather large pots when not in the ground.

I'm big on the whole flower thing, and I do know quite a bit about them. So - right now I've got a lot of herbs out there, plenty of strawberry plants, a couple of tomatoes starting up, some lavender (a favorite), stock (great fragrance) and a load of mint because I use it in tea and cooking too. All the pretty flowers which have no use will have to wait until it warms up a bit more, and I get more of my planters from my old house (I have a load of them to be brought over).

Just to be topical, another photo from my trip to the park with Elora yesterday. New Jersey playing who-knows-who. Didn't stay to watch, it was too hot.

Brenda - did you let Boomer pee in the middle of that game?

We don't have grass in the lawns down here. Just rock.

Nothing wrong with Zeroscaping (as opposed to Xeriscaping :D )

Try this stuff. It's fairly expensive ($27/month or thereabouts) but I've heard it works.

Maybe I'll consult with a professional

Hmmm interesting. I always assumed they did so well because I mostly left them alone. I water them, somewhat infrequently, trim off the dead flowers - also somewhat infrequently, and cut the stalks back after the first freeze. Once in a while, if they look a little bleak or are not blooming well, I will drench them in some sort of flower feed stuff in water.

Also, they were pretty well established when we moved here, so that probably helped also. Heaven forbid if I should have to coax a plant along from its baby stage.

Hmmm. I'm sure this will come across as somehow judgmental but it's not meant to be: on most fora I've participated in over the past, oh, let's just say 10 years for short, drunken posting was strongly discouraged. Mostly, I think, to protect the poster.

I'm a bit distressed that this woman was encouraged to keep posting for as long as she did. I know that most everyone here is fond of her...but, as is well known: the internet is forever. What if her potential employer got a whiff of tonight? Okay, Bithy, you are being a spoil-sport. Why don't you just grab a beer and shut up?

no worries. i was goofing. and if my employer wants to stalk my internet use, have at it. i yam wut i yam. no regrets. don't you worry about me. i'm a big girl.

I wish I kept on taking pictures at the hangout last night. I only got this picture of Mo, me, and Lin. It was hard to get a good angle on all three at once.

Repressed? I understand Bith (who is apparently a lady) lives in California, and I hadn't noticed them being particularly repressed last time I was there  . . .

Pep ( . . . although when I was there I also didn't have that much experience of anyone drinking alone at home, which is rather sad, I suppose.)

employers snooping through your forum posts and being shocked at someone drinking alcohol... and people caring that they might... that sounds like a repressed society to me!

The other day I saw wonderful display of darkest purple, almost black tulips, interplanted with orange ones and set off in a pool of pale blue forget-me-nots. It was very eye-catching.

Happy Sunday afternoon Threadians.

Good heavens! Do you think such a society might prevent people from drinking alcohol until they are 21 as well . . .

Pep ( . . . or even ban the manufacture and sale of alcohol completely for several years  historically?)

Golf is a stupid game.

Speaking of games.....once again I present

Baseball, explained to a Foreigner

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.

Each man that's on the side that's in goes out and when he's out
he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.

When three men are out the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out.

Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When both sides have been in and out nine times including the not outs

That s the end of the game.

BRAVO! i know baseball very well, but that would spin the head of a first time observer. LOL

@3Ring - (whisper verrry quietly) Good morning.

@Bith - if a potential employer is cruising the SL Forums as a reference check, I think I would RUN, not walk, away from that "opportunity".

@Brenda - remind me not to piss off your Neighborhood Watch...

@Damien & Ghosty - pretty flower pic! One of these days I'll get round to taking pics of some of the flowers here...

@Amaranthim - Thanks again for the treehouse tour and the goodies! :)
