I wish I kept on taking pictures at the hangout last night. I only got this picture of Mo, me, and Lin. It was hard to get a good angle on all three at once.

/me crawls out from under the deck. Wonders how his his boxers ended up on his pants layer and decides he's best off not knowing.

Looks around blearily for a moment trying to focus. Begins to recall. . .

". . .omg. . .and that was the night BEFORE the party. *groans.*"

Calls automated "guaranteedto-cross-sim borders" hovercraft he doesn't have the nerve to marke, for a pick up. Ends call with "and bring extra aspirin."

Collapses on the deck to wait. Painfully drags more details from the murky depths of what used to be his brain.

"Well. . .it was nice putting avatars to what were only names. Interesting how often I was wrong on the genders. But it was nice meeting everyone."

Brain begins to overheat and threatens to crash. Cessation of conscious thought becomes last conscious thought till loving robotic arms retrieve and transport him to the mlp2 powered cuddle bed.

Good morning threadies.

Beautiful hibiscus!

Of course, Ghosty's tulips are wonderful too but I was there and shouldn't show favoritism lol. I took pix too but can't get them out of my camera at the moment, can't find the USB cord and it's kind of an old one with an odd shaped end piece :( )

The other day I saw wonderful display of darkest purple, almost black tulips, interplanted with orange ones and set off in a pool of pale blue forget-me-nots. It was very eye-catching.

Happy Sunday afternoon Threadians.

Oh that sounds amazing! I used to have a very dark purple one like that in my garden, I think it was called "Black Queen" or something like that. Sadly, it only came up one year, and never again for some reason :(

Sadly, I know squat about flowers. I loved the satiny sheen on the petals, and the red-black coloration made them look almost surreal. But I have no idea whatsoever what sort of tulip they are - and I only knew they were tulips because the web site for the park said so. :o

Green paint . . .

Pep ( . . . like they use on the golf course in Augusta)

PS Seriously, there is not much you *can* do, as illustrated by this "top tip" on the subject:

From: someone

The brown patches tend to be a circular patch with bright green grass growing around the perimeter as the bitches urine eventually breaks down to Nitrogen, which then feeds the area outside the actual damage. The brown patch is basically scorching - similar to that caused by applying too much fertilizer - especially in dry conditions.

Treatment by soaking the area with water - immediately after the bitch has done the deed! Soaking the brown patches after they have formed will be absolutely essential if you are going to over-seed the patches.

As with many things, prevention is better than cure. You - the owner - have the remedy. Keep your bitch off the lawn!

Golf is a stupid game.

Speaking of games.....once again I present

Baseball, explained to a Foreigner

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.

Each man that's on the side that's in goes out and when he's out
he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.

When three men are out the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out.

Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When both sides have been in and out nine times including the not outs

That s the end of the game.

That's simple (it's just like rounders except with less hair-pulling) compared with cricket, sorry.

Pep (A game can last five days, and even when it doesn't rain the whole time, you can still not get a result)

LOL. Oh yes, the REAL party tonight could be hard on you. Better have those robots on standby, ready for the rescue.
:D

I do enjoy these wake-up chuckles

It is because dog's urine is high in ammonia, which is pure nitrogen and the intense concentration 'burns' the grass.

Extra water in those areas. Try any of the following sprinkled on the areas: Lime, powdered gypsum, or even a bit of baking soda can help.

(definitely NOT a Green Thumb, but has always had dogs)

ETA - I forgot that I had heard you could add Brewer's Yeast to their daily diet to help reduce the acidity of their urine. Not sure of the specifics on that.

Take the dog for walks :)

Dogs and pretty lawns just don't mix. Females far more so than males.
The type of grass you have can make a difference. Kentucky or Bermuda, depending on where you are, are tougher.
You can also give up on the ecological disaster called a "lawn" and mix in other ground covers, such as white clover (aka 'weeds') which stand up much better to pee and paw traffic, while making your lawn more resistant to pests and disease, and requiring less water to boot.
I mixed clover with my grass and it's just as green as a pure lawn would be - bees are NOT a problem if you mow the flowers off in June.

Lil is right, the best thing to do is hose down where your dog went immediately to dilute the area with lots of water (takes vigilance - once the grass is dead that's not going to be very helpful)
Another option (if space allows) is to set aside a specific area out of view where Boomer is confined when nature calls - maybe the first place to visit when being let out to play.

I've heard about the lime trick, I'll give that a try. As we know lime has many uses, especially here in New Jersey..........

I know MAYBE a half dozen types of flowers - all being the more commonly known ones - and pretty much nothing more than the fact that it is a 'rose' or 'tulip' or 'daffadil', etc... Flowers and gardening are NOT my thing at all. I don't even attempt house plants anymore as I just kill them. I have managed to keep the large rose garden outside alive even though I have lived in this house for 11 years now - definitely more than enough time for me to have killed any plant given into my care.

So, don't feel so bad - I am female and I'm SUPPOSED to know that crap. Guys are always forgiven for not knowing stuff like that.

No, I want him to enjoy the nice big yard I have, he's going to be too big to keep housebound. I don't need an Elysian Field, I'll do the lime and extra water.

*Goes off to get a truckload of Limes to cut up. And a couple of cases of Coronas to go with them.
