Thanks Love. Not much gets me really down. The biggest thing freaking me out is the thought of having to purchase a new wardrobe to interview in. I've been dressing very low key at this job for so long and I own NOTHING nice at all, no joking. Major shopping trips ahead, and I'm not one of those woman who enjoys it all that much.

If only RL were as easy as SL when it came to that task :D

Hi stranger!

Glad to hear Ghosty found something.

:( Sorry to hear about you.

Hey...what if you put together all of your worst looks, and we can send it in to "What Not To Wear"? Get a new interview wardrobe, and famous to boot! :D

Ohhhhh, Elora! :( *hugs* (calling you now...)

I knew the firm was having difficulties, but I'm really sorry to hear that it came down to this. :(

Wow...talk about timing, eh? I'm so glad Ghosty's getting settled, and it's well done on your part that you've been a saver. :)

Enjoy your time at home...and I know you & Ghosty will have a blast on the "Festival of Elora" cruise. :)

The firm will be hard-pressed to operate without you, Elora. Very hard-pressed.

It will be my 3rd (4th? I am forgetting now) time, Ghosty's first :) I've also been to Bermuda before, he has not although we've both been to the islands and he lived in St. Croix (pretty sure that's the one) for a few years.

He's totally beside himself with glee! I adore this type of travel. We got an amazing price on this one; NCL was running a 2-for-1 deal, upgraded to balcony cabin for the price we paid also, which was very low.

Thanks for taking the time to call Mo - my boss was practically standing right over me when you did  I'll try and give you a buzz back this evening, hopefully. Last night by the time G and I both got home, we were so wiped out and now we're in this new getting used to us both working mode thing too lol. It does really stink that it wound up this way - after 20 years I can deal with being let go and all, I understand things happen but not at least getting the severence pay really is a kicker.

And get this, OMG I forgot! To add insult to injury? Yesterday morning, before they had a chance to tell me? One of our engineers, that I'm good friends with? Calls up first thing in the morning and opens his trap and says to me "Oh? You're still there?" I'm like..."what do you mean I'm still here?" He says "my dad (father son team) said you were not working there anymore". I'm like "that's news to me!"

So, then I knew I was being let go! And I had to sit on pins and needles the whole day until the bosses called me into the conference room after lunch to finally talk to me! Can you imagine? FFS.

Thanks Lexxi.

Sorry about the ratty shoes too (not for being naked lol). Nobody should walk around in ratty shoes. Brenda would admonish us all :o

@ Claire - thanks to you too sweetie :)

Oh and BTW? Ghosty met Chase before all of you. He ran into him at Help Island while under the guise of his hindu god Alt Sunday evening, fresh "off the boat" so to speak. Spent about an hour with him, gave him a grand tour, and helped him get his bearings and gave him the landmark to the Cartel Hangout.

Nice guy, but naive; so yes, be very nice to him!

Mmmhmmm. And I also feel bad for Tod but for my own peace of mind and continued enjoyment of the thread, had to put him on ignore for the time being. My first time doing that. Have I ever told you guys 'why' I am deaf? Head trauma. Abusive ex-husband. Key word is 'ex' of course, but still........zero tolerance for back patting of physically abusive people.
Bless your heart. Being mad and being drunk are not excuses for physically abusing even the most horrible person. And as someone said, although abusers like to pretend they have a reason each time, it has nothing to do with anything about the victim. Big hug from me Treasure.

eta: There's no excuse for talking as if some people deserve to be abused either. And it's easy to understand how painful it is for you to have to read it. (But I'm going to to try and assume Tod didn't know what he was saying and would never really mean such a thing.)

yours truly got laid off from 20 years of supreme service yesterday due to deep financial woes.

My condolences. Seems like way too many of us in that boat right now :-(

/me pokes my head in and waves only because it seems to be safe at the moment
Just saying hello, and from Ghosty too. Lots of things going on in the Llama/Pixie household. G finally got a job after months of searching - just in the nick of time because yours truly got laid off from 20 years of supreme service yesterday due to deep financial woes. Company has about $5000 to its name at the moment  Very disheartening, as we've been an extremely successful small firm and were able to ride out many other downturns without a hitch. Not even going to be serverence pay for me - they can't afford it. The other two employees (draftsmen) are also affected, now part-time and were told feel free to look for something else.

Next Wednesday is my last day. *me sighs*

I'm not completely bummed. I knew this was a possibility. Thankfully, I have some money in the bank, Ghosty is now working and I have some other means of support coming in at the moment as well. Unemployement will be rather useless since I've been working part-time for so long, but it will be something until I get another job to add to the pot.

In the interim, I'm not stressing. Going to take a few weeks to catch up on things at home, and then G and I are off on a Bermuda cruise for a week to celebrate my 50th birthday - woohoo! Trip was paid for already, no turning back so we're going to enjoy ourselves to the hilt :p

That's it, and enough. Off to finish lunch, clean up my desk area some more, and continue writing copious notes on how to do my job so my bosses have some kind of guidelines. This, is a near impossible task because; how do you teach someone to do what you do in 5 days when you've been doing it for 20 years?

Ponder upon that.
The only thing I hate worse than shopping is job hunting so you definitely have my sympathy on both counts. Getting fired from a job you don't want to lose is no fun either. Maybe your bosses put it off because letting you go was hard for them too.
Thank goodness for your good attitude and Ghosty's new job. And that cruise sounds like it will be pretty fabulous!

I know it was difficult for them also - the older boss, who is like 75? He always viewed me as another daughter. The younger one? People used to thing at one point we were dating each other (when we were both single). So, yes; very difficult for all of us involved.

And I like you even better now that I know you hate to shop ;)

@ Mari - I didn't realize you weren't working either. I'm sorry to hear that :( Was that a recent development, or has it been a while?

Yes, I am assuming all of that too and I"m over it. Just threw me for a loop for the moment, on first read. I can't watch abuse on tv either, it's just a visceral, gut recoil type reaction, hard to explain really. My ignore list is pristine once more. Thanks for the hug!

We have Fortunoffs closing here - been in business forever, like those stores too (Pennys is in NJ, but no Mervyns close by and never heard of Gottschalk)

There's a trendy and slightly upscale (but not insane) area of town here which has had stores with sales since boxing day, and a number of other stores now closed down. It shocked me, to be honest, and put the economic downturn in a whole new (more sinister) light.

BTW, Elora, I'm glad you're back! I hope you can stick around.

If you know who can manage to totally ignore/not quote/respond to me the same way I ignore/don't quote/respond to him - perhaps I'll stay. I have completely stayed away from him for months, and I'd appreciate the same consideration in return. We'll see how that goes.

The day before Thanksgiving, a half hour before end of business.
