There is absolutely no way in hell you could ever pay me enough to go play in bed with the scumbags in DC.

My involvement would come more along the lines of helping with a freakin revolution.

But...but...if you were President, then I could come visit you and you could show me all the super duper sekret stuffz at the White House!

I have not read it- I just walked by and saw it on a shelf- but gee, why stop at nationalizing banks? Who needs free enterprise anyway? Capitalism is evil - see how well the socialist and communist countries around the world are doing...

FYI, the Obama Administration is (quite sensibly) NOT considering nationalizing the banks.

But I find it just a bit ironic that a right-leaning publication like Newsweek would print such a provacative cover "OBAMA IS WRONG", over a lead story about an economist proclaiming the Adminstration is wrong because they aren't taking steps to do just that. Of course, Newsweek's objective is to sell magazines, irregardless of how misleading and inflammatory the cover is.

I think we're seeing a lttle microcosm of the effect of this kind of misleading hyperbole right here in our little thread...

We're seeing the same thing up here, politically.

The two main opposing parties are too busy bashing each other's plans and jockeying for the NEXT election that the objective of fixing what's actually wrong right now is taking a back seat.

The idiots in the media (especially the ultra-conservatives) only serve to pour oil on the flames by telling those who won't think for themselves what to think.

If people (politicians, media, investors, bankers, you, me) would stop thinking only of themselves for a little while, this mess would be solved much more quickly.

I don't think Newsweek is generally perceived as a Right Wing or Conservative magazine.

I would agree that they are not perceived as a Conservative magazine (note the capital "C".) But their editorial stance is certainly right of center, although in the U.S. center seems to be a moving target. :)

Actually, I said "right leaning" not right wing. My perception, admittedly (and proudly) liberal, is that Newsweek is right of center, a viewpoint shared by my RL social circle.

Their right or left leaning editorial stance is irrelevant to the point of my post except that their editorial history supports the notion that Newsweek would never support nationalizing the banking system, thus highlighting the cynicism of their cover.

I've advocated lynching all politicians for a long time -- and any other method of knocking them off that folks want to try.

I am coming to believe that we really do need a full scale revolution.

Without tongue in cheek -no, dear not really lynching. I am however pro death sentence and strong reprisals- not slap on the wrists. In case it isn't apparent, no - I am not much of a liberal but an unabashed libertine :).

So you don't need to read the British papers today . . .

The Sun joked that England fans would have to stand through the world's longest national anthem - at six and a half minutes - before the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine. ...

If the Sun writers had ever been to a U.S. professional baseball game they wouldn't think this was funny.

That's wonderful! In RL I served for almost a decade as an elected member (and most times, chair) of locally elected boards. There is nothing that is more rewarding and frustrating at the same time. At least then, in my opinion, you truly have earned the right to complain about the system :-) Get involved. See the dark underbelly of the human spirit close up! Jackie
I agree. It's easy for most of us to complain about how public servants do their jobs but most of us don't want to do those jobs ourselves.

Since Godwins seem to be flying all over the place over the Pornsylvania Project, it might be a good time to bring back this chestnut, which popped up again across the street. It's a bit dated now, but still one of the funniest things I've seen about SL.

Really you think so? I consider myself to be pretty far left of center but I read Newsweek pretty much cover to cover every week and I have not formed the opinion that it is particularly right-leaning...

Re economic systems like communism and capitalism: I believe either on could work fairly well if they were practiced under a truly democratic political system - which has never happened yet.
