I just don't even know what to say anymore. I sit here, in shock, shaking my head all the time. I used to be really passive with my involvement in politics - give money to groups, sometimes send off a letter to a politician -- but for the first time in my life I have started actually getting involved with groups. What a year it might be.

I never thought I could be more cynical and jaded about politics, but the recent freakshows these worthless excuses for human beings have put on has brought new levels of disguist. As they all preened and prathered in their false outrage and claims of shock and horror over something they all knew was going to happen, in fact they approved it, in the Contract on America they pushed through, without reading in many cases, and insisting they can fix what they destroyed themselves, it's just beyond words now. EVERY single one of them should be ashamed of themselves, from the President on down, but we know they have no shame.

As April 15th approaches, many of us will have to give up even more of our hard earned money, to an agency headed my an admitted tax cheat, it infuriates me to think of what we let these people do to this country over recent years.

I guess we should be ashamed of ourselves in some ways.

*Rant ended*

Well, most elected officials belong in institutions.

Preferably one with cells, and electrified fences.

That's wonderful! In RL I served for almost a decade as an elected member (and most times, chair) of locally elected boards. There is nothing that is more rewarding and frustrating at the same time. At least then, in my opinion, you truly have earned the right to complain about the system :-) Get involved. See the dark underbelly of the human spirit close up! Jackie

Maybe it wasn't rezzing, but looked like back with less hair. And more clothing and shoes.

good morning, kids. gonna try to keep the posts down a little today by combining replies:

Lil, hope your day perks up. your involvement in political groups will probably make your day worse, so tread lightly.

Mo, thanks for the coffee (btw, i love that coffee maker)

Amar, don't let the politics ruin your mood.

Key, if they nationalized oil do you think the prices would rise, or fall? LOL

Chris, thanks for the granny porn update. it's good to know i'll have something to fall back on in my old age. and i agree about politicians belonging in institutions.

Brenda, welcome back! and i give you a 'you got that right' on the lottery funds statement. and political rants are spot on. and i like your proposal for the institution barriers.

Marcel, welcome to The Thread. you're one of us now. you can never leave.

Jackie, you are a brave woman. i've often considered running for a local position, but then i imagine massive groups of people coming after me with pitchforks and rifles and i quickly retract my interest.

Mari, your pics from the weekend were fun!

/me waves to Lula.

Kaimi, i just wanted to say again how wonderful it is to see you back here. you were sorely missed.

I would think voting in an informed way is getting involved. While those that want to deal with politics in such fashion- boards, committees, what have you - are more than welcome to, I remain an anarchist at heart. I really hate having to deal with politics since i dont want to- lately all these moronic ideas government has foisted upon us makes it impossible to ignore them. Used to be you could let them go have fun and thye were 'msotly harmless' - The past decade or more has grown progressively more in your face- makes me wish for a nice space ship heading off-world and bright new worlds- ohwell, a girl can dream -

Waves back and gone again :D

@3ring: I was here thousands of pages ago, and quietly left. So you see, it is possible to leave. No Hotel California here ;)

Probably will soon leave once more, this thread is too hard to keep up with. Too many other things on my mind, and topics to answer.

Right on! Unfortunately, a large percentage of the population seems unable to do as you do. Also, you assume I volunteered for that duty...what was the old military saying, they asked for a volunteer to step forward, so I stepped back, but everyone else stepped back twice, or something like that?

Free the Chicago Seven! Off the Pigs! Never trust anyone over 30! You don't need a Weatherman to know which way the wind blows! Four DEAD in Ohio! God, a flashback and I never even tried acid! I used to be an anarchist, became a Republican, got kicked out of the Republican Party (honest), became a Democrat. I'm a wee bit confused as you can tell :-) J

I don't know, but I think we'd have prices that reflect the price-per-barrel of crude, rather than the arbitrary and patently manipulative prices that the industry sets now.

I've often pointed out that if gasoline prices rose because of crude prices, then the oil companies' profits wouldn't change, since the other components of the gas price are unchanged. But since they make bigger profits during times of high crude prices, they are taking more when they feel they can.

Mr. MacMoragh often points out that the price of gasoline ALWAYS drops when there is a lot of serious talk about alternative energy.

I'm old enough to remember the fake oil shortage of 1974 and I happened to be living in California for the fake energy shortage of 2001. So I have no love or trust for that branch of the economy.

That is my whole spiel, so I'll say no more.

There is absolutely no way in hell you could ever pay me enough to go play in bed with the scumbags in DC.

My involvement would come more along the lines of helping with a freakin revolution.

I have no great love for Big Oil, or any corporate interest, but nationalizing them would be the biggest mistake those Fools on the Hill could make. Part of the reason for the price gouging is that our refinery capacity hasn't grown in 20 years. The infrastructure is old and needs updating. In the hands of The Government, it would deteriorate even more. The G can't pave roads or deliver mail with any consistency and efficiency. Oil, or any industry put into their grubby hands would become a mass of red tape and corruption, beyond what it is now. Plus, as we have seen, corporations are already filled with incompetent and corrupt managers, under government control this would only worsen.

Industry and commerce should remain in private hands. Sensible laws and regulations should be in place. Corporate executives AND their accomplices in Washington should be held accountable, and corruption should be dealt with swiftly and consistently. A level field, no government favored monopolies, and capitalism and free enterprise, as oppsoed to the corporatism we have now, will do the rest.

Once I have my mountain hideaway set up, I'll let you know.

Since Godwins seem to be flying all over the place over the Pornsylvania Project, it might be a good time to bring back this chestnut, which popped up again across the street. It's a bit dated now, but still one of the funniest things I've seen about SL.
