Being a non creative/ non home owner has it's advantages. my inventory is around 8,000, and I could probably get it down further if I bothered to clean out all the duplicate landmarks and notecards that come with stuff I buy.
Deleting those duplicate LMs and notecards is the first thing I do when I get a yen to clean up the mess. But the home ownership and creative stuff does add up; I need to go through the folder labeled "Building Components."

I don't use landmarks much either. I usually type the name into search and go that way, it seems easier for me.

And with all the OS sims disappearing, many of them are no good anyway!

I am a-feered of my "Objects" folder. It has lots of sub-folders, but still...it's huge.

I've just now decided to delete all but about 8 LM, the same for notecards, and spend some time cleaning out my snapshots/textures.

Never use any of it, so why keep it around?

But would I ever delete something I've parted with Lindens (or effort) to get? No way!

I definitely delete stuff I've paid for (if it's no transfer), if it's something I know I'll never use. Clothing designs have improved, my style has changed, and sometimes an outfit comes with pieces that just don't work. If I madly love the blouse but the pants don't look right, the pants get roundfiled. Or if something comes in a pack of three colors and one of them is pink, bye-bye to the pink one.

I've trashed a lot of clothes recently. I do the same thing. Sometimes I buy an outfit knowing I will delete one part of it immediately. I avoid fatpacks mostly, preferring just the colors I want seperately, but when I do get a pack, I go through it and dump the colors I know I won't wear, especially with hair packs. I also got rif of all the jewelry that wasn't "Bling Off" capable.

Don't know how you do it lol, I very rarely delete anything, and that which I do delete is normally the newbie stuff, or stuff that I've made. Dont think I've ever deleted anything I've paid for.

inventory at 34,208 and that is with a ton of it boxed up and textures slowly being put into the texture organizer...

still a struggle

deleted a ton of hair that I will never use though, that cleared about 2500 items

my biggest problem is building and/or making clothing, shoes etc, I end up with a lot of "objects" that I have to rez to see what it is before removing or renaming and taking back, also learning scripting adds a lot of "new script" that I need to clean out

and way too many textures that I might someday use LOL

Deleting the lm's is an idea as I tend to use search or inspect something to get creator and use their picks to get to the location, that will clean out a bit for me....

think I will go do that now, will report back the difference in a moment.

update after deleting all but 2 landmarks, my inventory count is now 33,486
for a total of 722 deleted landmarks
(will I miss them... probably not as I tended to never use my landmarks other than the 2 I kept.)

What I keep in mind is that each outfit/item I delete that I paid for only represents a dollar or two in "real" money. If I buy a latte or a gallon of gas (about the same amount of money) I don't expect to keep it; I use it up and it's gone. I view those items in SL that no longer serve my needs and desires as though they're lattes. And in RL, I don't keep clothes I've outgrown, even though I paid for them.

Before I get ready for work... I've been on that stupid Gorwide Grid Hunt and hit a wall. I've gotten eleven thingies so far, but cannot find the microscopic flower in this huge honking store, which is not just huge, but has high ceilings and three floors and a moon on a chain that you can go inside (the moon, not the chain).

I spent three hours in that place.

Then I saw a note about the starting point... being NOT where the fabfree note said, but somewhere else, so I went to look there, just for a change...

ARGH!

The info note said that one should IM a certain person if you had trouble finding the flower in a particular store, so I did...

I have to admit, the note didn't say she would help. So... she happened to be online, listened to me whine, then said, "Don't know where it is, hun."

Me: "Is it impossibly small, like the others?"

She: "dk"

I know I'll go back, I just wanted to complain a bit.
I am up to number 35. The numbering is a mess at times - things like 16 leads to 18 which leads to 17 which leads to another 18 which finally goes to 19. Then after a few more of proper sequencing, it gets weird again. And there are actually two flowers/prizes at #24, but both have the LM to the next stop and there are 4 flowers at number 30-something.

I have a HUD that helps me cheat when a hunt gets too rough and I've used it more on this hunt than I ever considered before. I feel like I am playing one of those old computer games that pretended to be puzzle games but were really just a matter of pixel hunting. From somewhere around number 10 or so, each stop seems to cover damn near an entire sim and the flowers are all so tiny. I have had to take a lot of breaks on this hunt and almost did not go back to it a few times.

And yes, the true beginning is #0 -- which is where I started and the location of where I found the only really large flower on this entire hunt.

I have 32,000 items in my inventory and whilst I rarely crash sometimes it does happen, however I cannot remember a single time after about a year ago (when I could not rez some items which were subsequently sorted out by LL) when I have had to clear my cache and reload my inventory for any reason. Just luck? I doubt it.

Certainly don't seem to need to do it as much as it seems peeps here are doing. What the heck are you all doin' that requires so much cache clearing and reloading?

don't think I've had to clear cache in about 6 months or more, but then I have a good connection, and a good PC. I don't even know what clear cache does.

I wonder why men seem to have little problem having female alts, but women dislike having male alts so much? At least that's how it seems to look from my seat.
I have a male alt, but I only use him to help adjust pose balls and sometimes test things. I got tired of changing one of my female alts into male shape when I wanted to mess with pose ball setup - especially since with SL borks, she could be stuck like that for a while.

I don't really have a hard time with the male alt - even took him out to pick up a chick once on a dare from a male friend. I just have no desire to play a male.

It's no fun dressing them, there isn't a decent freebie walk, and everyone assumes they just want sex. And for me I just can't disguise that I know nothing about the things most heterosexual men are into; sports, beer, computers and women :p
Yeah that

The cache, as far as I know, stores textures and information about a location you're in; so if you leave and then return, your computer already has the textures in memory and doesn't have to download them again from LL. Your cache size determines how much information is stored on your computer; and clearing the cache erases all the stored information, so that everything has to be downloaded again from LL.

The cache makes things load quicker on your end, is all. Erasing and updating the cache now and then makes sure the right things load.

But I got to meet Elora and Ghosty, whee! Wonderful folks! And my nephew is probably the cutest baby on the planet, bar none. And I got a cute hat. All in all, a good trip. Now I'm going to go wash my face and peel my contacts off of my eyeballs.

wow! I'd never heard of this gizmo!
Rika makes something similar that I bought quite a while ago. Like Ann, I usually love hunts, but every now and then you get one like this Gorean hunt where you are trying to find a tiny tiny flower across the space of damn near an entire sim.

Come on down to Houston, 65 and sunny here today.

/me ducks before his frozen friends start throwing stuff.
I woke this morning to a weather report that said it would start snowing soon for the morning rush hour and we would get 1-2 inches before it turned sunny - this was at 4:45 am. I looked outside and it was dry. I got thru the shower and got dressed, went downstairs to get ready to leave and noticed it was snowing. Finished getting ready and backed out of the garage and discovered there was already 2 inches on the ground and it was coming down hard. At 5:30 in the morning, it took me 50 minutes to make a normal 25-30 min drive. Final accumulation was roughly 4-6 inches -- but the sun was out by 10:30 and everything on the more traveled roads was melted by 11:00.

I was afraid that would be the case.
The dangers of such an unruly inventory...never sure what goes missing.
The bright side of that is that if you don't usually know you are missing something, you are not getting upset about it.

Why the desire to reduce inventory? I'm not there yet, so I don't really know what goes wrong. I have noticed that opening a new inventory windows hangs my client for 15 seconds or so... and if SL is having one of it's moods, the search takes a long time, but otherwise I see no ill effects... yet?
Those are the only negatives -- well, and trying to find time to properly sort and file it all so that I can actually wear all those clothes I get.
