So what we really need is to figure out a way to get them to fight with each other until they obliterate themselves. Unfortnately, dueling has gone out of style. The scene in "Patton" sums it up, when Patton said if it were up to him, he'd meet Rommel on the battlefield each with their tanks. They would shake hands , then button up and fight it out to decide the outcome of the war. |

Damn, you are good. Very well explained. I know a few people that need that explanation. ![]() Oh, sure...that's all fine if you only care about the here and now. However, the greatest military tacticians know that as long as your enemy still physically exists, "peace" will ever be nothing but the calm period between the wars. If someone excites my enmity, they must be completely disabled, if not outright obliterated. To do otherwise is to invite a temporary false sense of security, whilst future generations will be doomed to continue to suffer through brutal episodes of patronization, upsetting excuses for humor, and very, very bad puns. Think about the future! We would probably have less war if those that are started were conducted properly. It's a brutal business, but it should be carried out to it's full objective, which is to bring your enemy to total surrender, if not obliteration. Politicians love to start fights, but don't like to get the dirt on themselves. Especially now, where the first generation of Politician who has never worn the uniform, or have little knowledge of the Military Arts is coming to power. The purpose of war is to kill people and break their stuff. Don't start a fight you are not willing to finish. Of course you can also say "He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4SJ0xR2_bQ ![]() I don't know but it's REALLY scary- imagine the other poor lemons I'll bet they've turned colors in fear ![]() _____________________

Re Pep/Charly - come on- like anyone really needed to wait for him to out himself to recognize his posts. As someone said to me in one of my drive-by alt postings- you could recognize the style easily. I think we have a general "finger-print" in our writing. It's hard not to be who u are when u write. I was surprised actually, Amaranthim, as more people were apparently taken in by my joke than I was expecting. I thought the good spelling and grammar (both being such scarce commodities in the forums) would make it obvious . . . Pep (Conan doesn't know me as well as most) _____________________

![]() I haz a sad. Why all this talk of war and obliteration? Rwanda, Darfur, Somalia....these are examples of no quarter given. General Sherman's march through Georgia showed no quarter. The enemy of today could also be the valued ally of tomorrow. At least I'm pretty sure the US and Britain aren't still at the brink of war. Compassion, humility, and empathy are even more vital in a time of war than in peace. _____________________

The other lemons seem to be ok. They had knocked the one with "differences" to the ground. ![]() ![]() _____________________

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things. Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut. |

Give me time and I'll fix that. ![]() Oddly enough, between WWI and II, both countries were working into their Military Planning the prospect of being on opposite sides in the next big conflict. The fledgeling US Navy was seen as a possible threat to the Royal Navy. |

Compassion, humility, and empathy are even more vital in a time of war than in peace. But if the decision is made to wage war it should be an all out assault, supported by the entire nation (and I don't mean by putting stickers on their cars) to defeat the enemy as quickly as possible. Obviously not destroying the infrastructure of the enemy's land and not behaving as alienating monsters to the occupied population during the prosecution of the war will make it easier to get back to peace after they've been defeated. But if there is going to be a war a shorter all out campaign has got to be preferable to a long drawn out half hearted effort. (Except for the people who rake in profits as long as the fighting lasts.) _____________________

Yeah. Sane people will work hard to make peace with prospective enemies instead of war. (Except for the people who rake in profits as long as the fighting lasts.) Actually destroying infrastructure is part of destroying their abikity to wage war, a perfectly logical approach. But there are limits of course, there is a difference in targets of strategic value and just wanton pillaging. I will agree with your second point on occupation, which has caused the current situation from which we are trying to extricate ourselves. |
