I'm aware of that. I was catching up. Calling Ashe's child retarded is beyond the pale.

Geez. Who raised you? Don't you know any better?

Like I said, she started it.

My fiancé loves all things American. She's got it into her head that she wants to celebrate Thanksgiving this year. I don't understand it myself, but I've decided to humour her as I like turkey - on the one condition that on august 24th we can celebrate the burning of Washington every year.

I think my favourite story of that escapade was when the 2nd batalion of the 95th Rifles broke into the Whitehouse and found the place empty save for a magnificent banquet laid out in one of the dining rooms and sat and scarfed the lot while the city burned around them.

And it's about time you showed up............*Quickly throws away the remnants of the steaks*
I was lurking. All I could think was "poor cows". I've worked at a slaughter plant and I know the whole process is unpleasant for them. I was already a vegetarian then and nothing that happened there made me want to start eating meat. I couldn't work there now. But I care a bit more about humans who need meat than I do about the animals they eat.

I must admit, I love all the Military Pagentry and Fanfare. I'm a sucker for a Military Band Concert, and I love going to The Marine Barracks for the Retreat Cermonies when I am in DC.

War is a terrible thing, but it is something that I don't think we can ever totally eradicate as long as humans have the same basic failings as we do now, but as a student of history, I've always felt that Soldiering is an Noble and Honorable profession, one that a true soldier will tell you should be used far less than it is. But sometimes, there are things worth fighting and dying for.
I feel the same way. Although I'm probably more anti-war than most people I've noticed these days that at parades I'm sometimes the only one who stands when the flag passes.

Ok now this is also too childish to be effective and definitely a mistake when you are already the one who is right.

I disagree. When someone wrongs you, you should retaliate. Otherwise they think they can keep doing it.

There's an interesting story about that war. There was actually an attempt - admittedly a half hearted attempt - by the USA to invade England. A small task force was put ashore at some tiny fishing village in Cumbria and occupied it for two days before going home. I forget the name of the village though.
