Interesting, has anyone checked if the rc10 client sends filtering information to SL to limit the amount of data they recieve? that would alow some smart guy to write a low consumtion client rather then a thin client.
I've no idea.

Hoping somebody who knows the client messaging will weigh in here, but the results suggest that the ultra-thin client is just not properly supporting some of the protocol, prompting the server side to regenerate messages at a pretty rapid pace. If that's true, assuming it's the connected sim sending those messages, one might possibly see elevated "Agent" times, but anyone's guess if such an elevation would be detectable. (I'm guessing that the associated avatars would appear as Ruthed/Clouded; that would be a bad thing, but there may be more important parts of the protocol not getting serviced client-side.)

Oh yes :) I said in advance that that's what they do - ignore the parts they have no answers for - so it was fun to see you turn it against her after she did it.

Phil.

Its a forum,

Not a debating society - It is not necessary to address every single point someone makes.

You are intentionally not making this distinction because you have a personal grudge against me.

Both you and this Vittorio person are extremely childish.

If i'm not wrong i read they were optimising the protocol message, if you just launch SL-proxy and you monitor the amount of packets sent in/out you'll notice immediatly that many of them are duplicated or thay many be heavily optmized. Anyway i don't have any evidence that they are working on the packet data... it would be interesting to log both (pre rc10 and rc10) in the same enviroment.. any difference (if big) will be immediatly advisable (by eyes...).

The ultra-thin client supports/handles nothing other than logging in, and they do receive repeated data. They each receive a message about appearance every 10 or 20 seconds or so (at a guess), and they do stay as clouds. Those messages appear in their cosoles, but they must receive a lot more than those messages, that don't appear in the consoles.

Is the ultra thin client based on pre-Windlight?

Yes. It uses an older version of libsecondlife, which is a library of routines that programmes can use.

Hmm does that mean Windlight may actually be better? Or just a protocol messaging thing?

It's just what you call a protocol messaging thing. Each client is a simple dos-looking console, and one set of them doesn't even have that.

I've left them in for hours now, using RC10 clients, and the data received (downloads) varies betwen about one third and about two thirds of the ultra-thins.

[added]
The "ultra-thinness" is the amount of memory they use - about 6k each.
