From: Jack42 Meredith can u really buy a whole sim for 48.75 ? im wanting to do something like that in the future and need some good guidence on it if u buy a whole sim u do with it what ever u want? and is it easy to buy a whole sim ? is mainland the way to go or other options? and if u buy a sim can u let ppl build on it and pay you. to make up for the 48.75 ? just curious how it all works sorry to hear about your luck cx . US$ 48.75 for a quarter SIM, US$ 195.00 for a full 'mainland' SIM. Private SIMs are US$ 295.00. Buy a 'mainland SIM' through auction direct from the Lindens, average about US$ 1,200.00 now. A Private SIM direct from the Lindens through the Land Store US$1,000.00. Whatever SIM you have, it is yours to do with what you want, within a very wide scope of reason.

No, a whole sim always costs $195/month. I'm sorry if my comment confused you. What I was trying to say was this: conductorX owned 1/4 of a sim, and paid $75/month in tier. So if he wanted to rent it out in 512s, he'd have to charge US$2.34/month each in order to make back his costs given full occupancy. However, if someone owns a full sim, and pays $195/month, then each 1/4 of a sim they own costs them only ($195/month divided by 4 = $48.75/month). Thus if they wanted to rent out that 1/4 sim as 512s, they could charge US$1.52/month. If they charge, say, $2 a month per 512, then they make US$64/month, which means they need only 76% occupancy to break even and make a profit if they have more than that... and are still undercutting someone who owned only 1/4 sim total. Of course they have to do something with the other 3/4 sim too

From: Rioko Bamaisin YThough I can log in fine at my house with the reg viewer at 3,778m. You just need to set home in the RC first. Really? This still doesn't work for me (my Home is at 3333--just draw-distance above the last sputtering particles of a local microparcel advertiser). Do you login to "Home" instead of "Last Location" to make this work? Or could we be on different sim versions?

My home sim says this: You are at 293169.0, 279828.4, 3778.2 in Corfeld located at sim2473.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.17.224:13000) Second Life Server 1.21.1.87495 . If you set your home in the reg viewer,it wont work. Are you sure you set home in RC?

I have been on SL since Novemember of last year. I don't want anything except to publicly acknowledge the help and advice I have been given on this this forum.
I typically don't rise to trolls that are phishing for flame wars.
"CoXuck" I'm not a troll and even if I was I'm not flaming you, just asking. I was just pondering if you're so well known and all, why even bother with these forums? Surely you got your own forums somewhere, for your HUGE CROWDS of fanbois that know who you are. But seriously I'm curious! And no, I wont.

I think it comes down to how much you are willing to invest and possibly lose.

yes rioko i suppose that is cheap a month for intertainment . but in my case that would be my only intertainment , i would have to give up other rl intertainment if i chose to do so but if renting spots out is easy and u could at least break even it would be great

When I think about how much money I've thrown across the craps table on my trips to Vegas, I probably could own several Sims...

Oh it's not easy. Especially with the more tenants you have. Some days it can be a pain. Especially if you would rather be doing something else. I often have to leave in the middle of parties or other moments to go help out a tenant with an issue. So that part kind of sucks, but for the most part it has been fun. For me,I can't work in RL. So this is pretty much the next best thing, keeps my brain busy. I started out small and worked my way up,still adding land as time and money permits. I think I have reached my limit as to the amount of monthly tier I am willing to pay though.(I think...) Sorry for derailing CX.

I am currently spending $150 a month for some good entertainment. I just need to cut back. By reducing my my tier I'll can still spend $75 on $L a month and have some good times. I will miss the pool parties they were tons of fun. I am premium and paid up until Nov this year so I am good to go. If I decide to buy a full SIM I will have my plans laid out ahead of time and I will have a full year of Tier set aside to run it. Desmond Shang has posted some great info here about how to manage and run an SL business. I just have to come up with a totally new theme before I kick it off. "CX"

From: Rioko Bamaisin I use log in at home. ... Are you sure you set home in RC? That must be the difference: I always use login at Last Location, so even if that's Home, I start at 768 and "descend from the heavens." (Yes, Home was set in the RC... TPing to home puts me right at 3333 where I belong.) From: Jack42 Meredith ... if renting spots out is easy and u could at least break even it would be great As a general rule in RL and SL, if it's easy and low-risk, it won't generate much profit. The exceptions being regulated monopolies and exploiting "moral hazard" (in the way adcutting uses the "Tragedy of the Commons"--effectively thieving from all other landholders, with Linden-blessed impunity). Otherwise one has a commodity, for which competition drives margin ever closer to zero.
