Sorry to hear this CX.:( It is hard to break even in this market. Especially with the classifieds. I need to pay upwards of 3k a week just to be underneath those with seemingly bottomless pocket people. Though I do have to say, classifieds do work and they work very well for me.

What are you doing with your land?If you need a buyer contact me,I'll come look at it.

And if you need a skybox, let me know.:) I'll kick Claire out.:p

Kidding Claire....:p

Ack never mind I only have 14k left in tier before I go up to the next level. I think a 1/4 is 16plusk IIRC.

Good luck CX,in whatever you do.:)

:(

Sorry to hear this CX.
But the good thing is you can always do anything in SL. Maybe start a store for VW's? I know I had a hard time finding a robin egg blue split window van when I first started.

Folks here know who I am.

I have been on SL since Novemember of last year. I don't want anything except to publicly acknowledge the help and advice I have been given on this this forum.

I typically don't rise to trolls that are phishing for flame wars. So I won't give you the satisfaction.

It's tough business in SL, that's why it's amazing when someone does make something. You are doing the right thing. If it isn't happening for you it just becomes a money sink. Step back, take a breath and then go try something else.

CX - *hugs*

i know you are disappointed, and i'm sorry it worked out this way.

don't forget you can have a 512m at no monthly tier.

very best of luck!

Many commisserations. :(

It is very difficult to turn a profit on any volume of land less than a sim, because of the tier discount. You're paying US$75 in tier on 1/4 sim, but somebody who owns a whole sim (mainland) pays only US$48.75 on the same area. So breaking even in competition will be tough, if it's possible at all.

My next venture will be a full sim. I have great advisors and a great manager working for me so I'll be back when I am ready. I am also hampered by the restrictions of Mainland in that it isn't Havoc 4 so I can't go above 750m.

Rio, I will look you up inworld to show me some of your skyboxes. Having Claire for a neighbor would be great. She could invite me over for tea, when Graph is busy.

Thanks everyone.

Sorry to hear you had to come to this tough conclusion. I remember when you first started that venture--you had such enthusiasm. I think you're making the right decision. I tend to say if it's not fun, why do it? And if it's not fun and costing $$, really, why do it?!?! Life's too short! Good luck and see you around the party circuit!

Very true Yumi. When I started out with only 1/4 of a sim I lost money every month.I only started making a profit when I moved up to a full sim.

And yes CX, Claire makes the best tea!:p

Damn, CX. Thanks for the pool parties and I hope you turn SL into fun again.

I think it is unrealistic to expect a profit, (or to just break even) in SL anymore, as you stated at the outset. The wisest and most practical approach is to consider SL an entertainment expense to be compared against other forms of entertainment. As far as I am concerned tier money is a bargain compared with dining. If you like to go to the movies, tier becomes a damned steal by comparison.

I hope to see ya inworld... dancing at someone ELSE'S place!

probaly some confusion, mainland does use havok 4 BUT if you don't use the RC or alternativ viewer you can't build above 768 m no matter if you are on mainland or estate land.

for those wanting a technical explanation, the hight check is done in 2 places, the server wich with havok 4 has been raised to 4096 m and the client/viewer wich with the main viewer is still at the old level.

Oh BTW,in the RC you can go up to 4000m plus. I have my home at 3,778m now in the sky. You can only set your home, rez and move things in the RC though. But for everything else using the reg viewer is fine.(Logging in,teleporting there...) I can't wait till I can move everything up.:p

Sorry to hear this, CX. :(

I'm sure the experience you gained will be a benefit to whatever you decide to do in the future.

Right: All of Mainland can go to 4096 now. You just need the RC viewer to be able to use the Editor to move stuff around up there. But it's not great for rentals yet because if you login above 768, well, you don't: you start at 768 and plummet to earth, which some persnickety tenants find disconcerting. ;)

This happens to me regularly. On the plus side, it gives me an excuse to ride my crappy hacked warpPos teleporter back up.

Yeah I am not moving anyone else up until the reg viewer has it. (unless they ask specifically)I don't want to make people have to use the RC just to rent a place.:p

Though I can log in fine at my house with the reg viewer at 3,778m. You just need to set home in the RC first.:)

i think you pay $195 MONTHLY according to the Land pricing page...
http://secondlife.com/land/pricing.php
and then you also have the purchase price when you first buy it.

And yes, you can do whatever you wish, within the ToS and CS.
i think for buying an entire sim, mainland is better, but that's just my opinion. more security, unless you want to rent it.
Yes you can let people build and pay you, but I'm not sure on the specifics..

So sorry to hear that CX- I echo everyone else's sentiments - it has to be fun. I only went to one of your parties and it was wonderful!

As for the whole sim thing...huh???? I am on an 1/8th at $40 -haven't wanted to go to a 1/4 cause i don't want to pay $75 - how does one get $48 and change?????

Sorry for the derailment- we can take this elsewhere...
