From: Rock Vacirca Of what? Which case?
I was referring to the 11-year-old Jordy Chandler case in 1993, in which he paid the family an estimated $20million, in an out-of-court settlement. A pay-off of $20million is not the same as being found not-guilty. Do you mean there has been more cases since then? In which one was he found not-guilty? Just for the record.
Rock It's still uninformed speculation to say he was guilty. And I don't know about you, but no amount of money would be enough to buy me if someone molested my child. I would want his blood, and not rest until I bathed in it. This tilts my own speculation in favour of them being money grabbers, and him being innocent. We can speculate, can't we, about these things.

We can speculate, can't we, about these things. Unfortunately, some "parents" would sell their child for a lot less. On the other side,if I were truly innocent. I would certainly not pay anyone off.

I can't really say for sure. The prosecution got a big payday anyway, and I am of the mind that was all they wanted. Hadn't the family tried the same thing before anyway, to someone else?

We can speculate, can't we, about these things. I never said he was guilty of anything. You simply stated that, for the record, he was found innocent. I think you'll find that MJ has a history of paying large amounts of money for things he 'never did'. In 1996 he also paid off the family of Jason Francia who was at Neverland with Jackson in the period 1987–1991, when he was 7–10 years old. He paid them $2 million to settle. I don't know about you, but there is no way in hell that I would pay a dime to anyone for something I 'never did'. Rock

I wouldn't pay off anyone, just because.. to me it would look like I am buying their silence. If I was truly innocent,I would want my day in court and chance to prove it to clear my name. Regardless, I don't quite understand how any parent would opt to make a buck off their child's pain like that. Whether real or fabricated.

It was the father who pusued it, as far as I know. The mother didn't want any part of it and the boy never had to testify after since the father went for a settlement straight from the start.

From: Ishina Xue Serious? Would you tolerate them picketing a funeral of your son or daughter? What am I going to do? Pull a gun on them? Take an ax handle to them? Hire goons to rough them up?

From: Chris Norse What am I going to do? Pull a gun on them? Take an ax handle to them? Hire goons to rough them up? Actually, I'm probably not the best person to answer that. I'd do all of those things and more if they picketed a funeral or any memorial for that matter, of anyone I was close to, and I had any of those things to hand. Not trying to sound like all hardcore here, but that would just be too much for me not to react. And in my book, they would deserve everything they got. Nobody should have the right to spit venom with immunity. Or rather, they shouldn't expect to. It's provocation in my eyes. There is really no need for it. I could forgive someone who didn't know better, like a child. But an adult who makes an educated choice to go out of their way and upset someone has no 'right' to not be accountable for the reaction they inspire - especially a predictible reaction, like someone taking offence.

Well it could have been a nice thread. But people came in with personal insults to me and others. There is definitely at least one person in this thread who has shown me that I should never engage her again by her uncalled for rude remarks to me. Which is fine.

This is sad, not only his death is sad, but the total lack of respect to keep oppinions out of a thread like this is also sad.
People have a right to express their oppinion, true. But family and other people also have a right to mourn over the loss.
Those that have hard assumptions about MJ: show some respect to the people that do mourn and keep your oppinion out of the mourning process.
My condoleances to the family and loved ones of David, Ed, MJ and Sarah.

From: Rhaorth Antonelli OMG people take your petty differences to im's please, for the love of all that is human
If you dislike Michael you have that right, heck you even have the right to express that hate, but omg what is with all the back and forth petty arguments?
I so totally did not expect this thread to take the turn it did, and if I had known, or even had a slight thought it might, I would never had started it
It was started to share in the loss of a very nice woman, and the possible loss of a pop rock icon, which it seems has gotten lost in all the bickering back and forth. (at the time it was started, michael was still in the hospital as far as I knew)
I loved watching Farrah on the angels, she was my idol when I was younger, and I will miss seeing her smiling face, always so happy, and always so bright
I remember seeing Michael when he was just a little kid, coming out of his shell, and becoming very very famous and dealing with all the public crap that goes with it, I never envied him
Now he is gone too, and will be missed by many, and most likely just as many will be glad to see him gone, and that is their choice
I just wish people would stop and look at the crap they are posting to each other...
just stop posting if all you want to do is poke the stick at someone else it only takes one to stop it, but two to keep the fight going... who will be the bigger person and just .... stop?
I hope to god, that the family of Farrah and Michael never see this thread, or the petty comments that have gone back and forth...(and being we never know who uses SL, and who actually comes to these forums... there is a chance they may have seen, or may see the comments made here, and how a thread meant for memories and sharing, became a thread of mudslinging)
No matter how bad someone is, or how good, someone somewhere loves them and will be greatly hurt by their passing, my heart goes out to the friends and families of both of these individuals QFT I was going to post something but then saw you had already posted what I was thinking. Thank you

Rock There was a second case, in like 2004 or something. He was found not guilty in that one. Of molesting the kid, that is - he's never been found guilty of abusing a child. As for the aforementioned 'predilection for children', though, it's.....I don't wanna say "fairly obvious given what is known", because that would probably start an argument with some people; but I just said it, so...shoot.

From: Tarina Sewell I think her death effects me more than MJ in that I always admired her and wore that same hairstyle, have on in SL to..
Same here as I grew up during the years when Farrah was in "Charlie's Angels" and her hairstyle was *THE* one to have. (Trivia fact - she appeared in only one season of "Charlie's Angels", then was replaced by Cheryl Ladd). Her famous pose wearing the slightly wet red swimsuit was on many a young lad's walls in the day and at the time was considered slightly risque. Coming from a home where my father was a domestic abuser during the time when things like that were swept under the carpet and there were no battered wives shelters, women had few rights (pre-women's lib), if a woman was married, all financial records were generally in the husband's name, and my mother spent many nights sleeping with me with the car keys clutched in her hands, I so admired her work in "The Burning Bed." After watching the documentary and what she went through in her cancer treatment, my heart went out to her; thus my decision to personally honor her during this year's RFL. I will continue wearing my "Farrah's Story" bracelet through the end of Relay this year.
