Just pointing out the senseless nihilism of your query.

"Senseless Nihilism"?.. now Pep, for someone who likes to pick people up on their failings in IQ or education, I'm surprised to see you lapse into such a poor turn of phrase.

Firstly, while it sounds like the right word for the task, I'm pretty sure even you haven't got a long enough lever to make Nihilism mean what you apparently want it to mean here.

Mind you, you're a talented guy, so given that you may just manage it, all you've done is lapse even more embarrassingly into the crime of tautology.

Or, if none of those options appeal, we can always adopt you as our very own Humpty Dumpty.

On the contrary, I consider that there is such a thing as sensible nihilism, although you will doubtless initially wish to accuse me of using an oxymoron. :p

I perceive nihilism as potentially being an appropriate attitude to many stimuli. In the case of the OP's initial post, however, I can see no other response which would enhance anyone's knowledge or understanding of the forum situation.

Pep (Hence my comment; which might justifiably be applied in many other posts, come to think of it. ;) )

No need to fret Patasha, the truth is you have as much idea about what we're talking about as we do.

I'm guessing Pep is like me, he has nibble fingers and a Thesaurus to hand.

The reference to Humpty Dumpty was only because he said (Humpty that is):

"When I use a word, it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less".

So feel free to imagine us as fat, bald men with surprisingly fragile shells.

Not being picky or anything, but do you have a two syllable limit or a three syllable limit?

Pep (who doesn't need a thesaurus, dictionary or other artificial aid, just a good memory.)

PS And doesn't rely completely on spell checkers that can't differentiate the difference in sense between 'nimble' and 'nibble'. :D

Which limit applies to which state though?

Pep (used to write college examinations half-cut, as apparently you remember things best when you are in the same state as when you learned them.)

Come clean Pep, of course you do.

You also have the grammar check switched on, which would have highlighted my little faux pas.. rookie mistake!

I'm not silly enough to rile the beast by suggesting I'm your equal in IQ or education Pep, but the following has always seemed sage advice to me:

"Wear your learning like a watch and do not pull it out merely to show you have it. If you are asked for the time, tell it; but do not proclaim it hourly unasked."

Just an idea...

I am technically an alt, as my original account is about three weeks older than this one. At some point, probably early in 2007, me-as-Kelli took over from me-as-original as my main window on SL. I could theorise on how it happened, but that's a story for another thread.

Nope - don't judge others by your own standards. Middle aged small businessmen are not *all* subject to early onset Alzheimers.

Only my neural one. You obviously lack either facility.

It's not what you *are* - it's how you present yourself.

Schools and universities would be pretty quiet and unproductive places if everyone took your advice.

I've just really got to ask .... why?

On the one hand you seem quite a nice man, you have a sense of humour, I've even read a post or two where you appear, well, ..kind.

However, a lot of the time you're not much more than a bully.

You're right on several counts:

1. I'm middle aged
2. I own a small software business.

On the subject of our relative intellects and "neural" assets, I couldn't really comment.. although I'm sure you can and will.

I can't really comment you see Pep, because for most people intellect exhibits itself in ideas, informed debate, creativity.

You choose to exhibit yours by correcting grammar, scoring cheap points off of people's typo's and some issue I've yet to understand concerning johnny foreigner coming over here and stealing our language.

I guess my mistake was in joking with you about your use of the word Nihilism. I really should have realised that someone whose identity seems so intrinsically dependent on how "intelligent" he appears to a set of strangers on a message board, wouldn't take that too well.

I'm sorry this has all deteriorated into a sort of personal feud, but the truth of the matter is that I don't really like you.

You are a bully for the most part, pure and simple, and that's a trait I pretty much despise.

Anyway, on that note, I'll leave the floor to you. The fact is that I don't really like myself either when I'm doing this wee thing with you.

You win, you're a very intelligent erudite man, and we could all learn a lot while sitting at your feet.

It's a pity though, isn't it Pep, that what makes a man isn't all about a tertiary education?

PS.

The thing above about wearing your learning like a pocket watch; it wasn't actually me that said that, but a guy called Lord Chesterfield.. but then you knew that, didn't you.? :)
