Spelling was not the first thing I listed, nor was it my biggest problem with his post. It doesn't have to be perfect, just legible.

Bad spelling or grammar bug me, too. I try hard not to make too many mistakes, and I appreciate the effort people make when they post. Having said that, if you truly want to help someone, you can always send them a PM or IM. It's called having class. The question the OP asked had nothing to do with spelling so I'm thinking all the comments on his lack of writing skills were more for show than about helping.
A suggestion? If someone's question (or the way they spell) offends you in anyway, don't answer. If you see that no one is answering him or her, and you really want to help, send a PM telling them why.

Hi Mrc, welcome to the big kids grid, not a whole lot different from the teen grid, but, well, bigger. Sounds like you've either got some folks seeking you out to harass, or you've ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time a lot. So far, it seems you've been given some pretty sound advice, get an alt if you feel you need to build in peace (and as a side note, don't add folks to that alt's friends list if you do want to build with it). Or, you can keep your current account as is. You may want to try some sandbox hopping, I know you tend to work on a friend's plot, but it might be in a location that is targeted by griefers. It's worth a try looking at some private sandboxes. If you are interested in starting your own business selling your scripted items, I have shop space and skyplat space for free for folks who don't already have those at their disposal. The only catch is that it be Victorian/Steampunk oriented. I'd have IM'd you in world with that, but my compy has decided that SL is offline at the moment (shrugs). But feel free to IM me in world, and I can show you some places to build, and introduce you to some folks who will be helpful and only shoot you with chicken watermelon guns...sometimes

It's a bit odd that someone who is trying to control rumors then posts about those same rumors by starting a thread! My first tip would be not to advertise yourself in this way.

I second all of the other suggestions that you should create an alt, and start again, especially since you only just arrived on the adult grid!

Okay, well, since it's Friday and the meta-topic is faring better than the topic, and the OP seems to be AWOL for the nonce, I'll just throw out McLuhan's famous quote: "The medium is the message." In this case, the OP surely communicated something with the format of the message. We all formulated some idea of the persona behind that message, whether or not that communication was intentional (probably, I think, SSRIs notwithstanding), and whether or not the message received was that which was intended (probably not, at least not uniformly). I mean, e.e.cummings couldn't capitalize worth a damn, Joyce's syntax could drive one to drink (which helps, actually), and there are passages in William S. Burroughs completely impenetrable to anyone not on heavy narcotics. It's a little early in the day to load up the syringe, but style in these cases was definitely part of the substance.

it really annoys me when people nitpick others over grammer and spelling. nerd much? get a life maybe? if you can understand what someone is saying (and i understood the OP perfectly) then really . . who cares.

I love Qie and Swan's posts, just above this one.

They're perfect examples of the two sides of the debate. Qie makes an eloquent argument for clarity and precision of language, quoting McLuhan's famous dictum about the medium itself having import and meaning, over and above the literal message it contains.

Swan follows with a comment that says, in effect, "you guys who care about language are nerds and nitpickers. The message is what's important."

Obviously, I side with Qie on this. HOW you write (or speak) is as important as WHAT you write. Not that we should put down those who are less eloquent than we might like. That's rude. But everyone should be aware that their words are speaking volumes to others, beyond their plain intent. Master that second layer of meaning, and the world is yours. Ignore it, and life is an uphill battle.

As opposed to just another post in a thread already going on where its not as important.

As someone thats struggled with meds and depression most of my life, Id take that more personally myself.

i dont agree with any of you and i understood the Op perfectly. its really not that difficult to ferret out whats being said. forgive me, but if youre so snotty to judge someone by their grammer then i doubt im interested in your opinion anyway. its a two way street ya know. i know that sounds harsh and i actually dont mean any disrespect. But it REALLY annoys me when people ignore what someone is saying and focus on grammer. Just to pick at them and undermine them and belittle them. Thats what happened here and i dont care how you try to spin it. its the truth.

Mrc, I think an ALT might be your solution. If you have somehow dragged some bad feelings into the MG from the TG - these griefers know your name/work - you may have to just create another identity under which to continue to create so you can do it in peace.

It sucks to change when you're comfortable with an Avi, but I'll bet lots of others have done it. Starax for example?

Come on Chris...What is the REAL BEEF? Is it your dislike of weapons? Cards on the table sort of thing...it helps in eliminating 5000 useless posts back and forth, accusations and all that malarkey. Personally I hate weapons (except my light saber...which I have never used) and if you can call a MystiTool a weapon...then I have one of those too.
Personally I was able to read the gist of the original post easily, and it didn't offend my sensibilities. So if you stick to your 'guns' on this one Chris, we all lose. We all lose respect for each other, and personally I would hate to see that happen over misspelled words. We humans have the ability to have a change of heart...Hell, even ANIMALS have that ability!

That wasn't dyslexia. I've had dyslexic students and I know a bit about it.

I'm not a native speaker either, but I wish some people were less sloppy spellers anyway. No matter in *which* language.
I have to agree with Chris, and if you want to call me an arsehole, do it. I've had worse.

And yes, if someone manages to get code working, which is ABSOLUTELY unforgiving concerning spelling "mistakes" (i.e. it won't work), I would expect something that is a little more readable. Even *I* take the time to check that my typing isn't full of mistakes, as I'm a lousy typer.
Besides, I've been on medication, too. Sertraline and Fluoxetine. AND I kept going to work.
