Industry drives profit. You know what drives industry? OIL. First, I'd log off the island, then mine any minerals I could out of the land. Then I'd sink the whole thing and put off shore oil rigs all over the place. Don't worry about the weather or currents. I'd surround it with a fragile, highly sensitive coral reef teeming with endangered species.

I could have single shelled oil tankers from all of the continents pull up next to my rigs and fill up with glorious, glorius black gold, then I could buy the captains lots of drinks to celebrate and immediately throw them out to sea to make room for the next oil tankers. they can sober up as they sail. Of course, I'd have to eat out there, so I would buy a trawler and sein net huge chunks of the ocean. Sanitation wouldn't be a problem because I could just throw my stuff overboard and it would sink to the bottom where I don't have to look at it.

Anyway - offshore oil drilling would be the way to go until the US Government and NASA showed up and told me there was a meteor plunging towards the earth and the only hope was for me and my crew to go up there and detonate a nuclear bomb right in the middle of it. Then that goddamn Ben Affleck would get to marry my daughter, Liv Tyler.

no more cinemax for you >.>

Well I would invite the people that created the Lost Island but had to close it because of lack of funding. They would be free to recreate the island, and I would just be the man behind the curtain :-)

Maybe I will invite Brenda too, she can crash a helicopter on the Island.

And wasn't Trout the one with the biplane? He gets invited if I can have his daughter Liv.

Anyone with a sculpted polar bear can come and set it free in the jungle.

That's it folks,

Marcel

It would be fun to practice, but I would really want a place that would be open to everyone to come visit and explore. Why have an island that nobody gets to play on?

No man is an island unto himself...(sorry. couldn't resist)

If I had the ability to get things built there with just MSN for company, my SL would be less complex!

True to form, I'm afraid I would build *my* vision of a Ds place. No dungeons, no castles, no black and red ... and people would like it or not :) Also no doubt some of my ideas would be nicked as they have been already.

I would finally have a place to set up my (scaled down) copy of the Sezession building in Vienna (it's in my inventory now but I can hardly find places that have enough prims to let me finish the details). And I would build St. Basil's cathedral right next to it ^^

This is my favorite so far. Being that I'm from Pittsburgh and all.

1 Goal of mine- An Amish Sim!

I love the irony!!!

Amish SL = no fancy skins, no fancy scripts, no fancy builds. Just plain & simple. Camping chairs would involve milking cows, working the fields, barn raising for the men/ quilting circles for the ladies.

By keeping things "plain & simple", it'd also cut out alot of Lag. I'd probably rent out living space too, for those looking for a "Simple Life in SL"

And we'd RP too! But the opposite of Gor RP!! Not much sex, but plenty of work, work, work... and church.

Ok, It'd also be educational. Not everyone gets to live in Amish Country (and think WTF are these people thinking??)

My 2nd Idea would be a Giant Polka Dance Hall. Heh! Can't live in Pennsylvania and not know how to Polka!! :D

My 3rd Idea would be a replica of Pittsburgh.... but I doubt LL would enjoy a Giant Rectum for a Sim :D

I would restore my old log cabin and surround it with some beautiful gardens and forest... and create some nice houses for some good friends.

I would build the Quinta da Regaleira (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pal%C3%A1cio_da_Regaleira for the story and http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=525114 for photos) on the island. With the gardens et all!

Then i would organize a nice little trip completed with fog!

There are public, third-party grids to which you can connect your opensim region.

I wouldn't say they're exactly like SL sims yet though. There's a lot of missing functionality, and the available physics engines simply don't compare (you can forget about walking inside hollow prims for example ;)), amongst other things.

However, OpenSim is very impressive considering how long its been in development, it's very usable and I'm very excited about the future of the project. :)

Well If I knew how to do more complex things all by myself and had a computer and private server so I could invite over a few people of my choosing. If I could do this and create something of my own sim wise I would create my own private world.
I wouldn't mind the isolation most of time if I was busy creating but I might get lonesome but if I had those skills I could create my own friends too. I would have to make very friendly, intelligent friend bots.
I often have many dreams like vast numerous sim galaxy that can do a whole lot more things, that I use as way of using it to tell stories in films that others could watch.
But that is all bunch of daydreams in reality I would need more smarter people and whole lot of money to do it then I have.

I just break my horse out wherever I am when the mood strikes. :D The looks I get in malls...sheesh you would think they never seen a horse before...

That's what I would do with a whole island. Make one big happy place for horses.:)

Recreate some Inca ruins. And lost cities. And the Temple of Doom.

I rather like archaeology and ruins, but never did get to do anything with that interest.

That or watch the Sandkings fight each other. And grow/build monuments to me. Then watch them create the printing press and then recreate all of Shakespeare's plays. And then break out of their cages and eat me. Stupid Sandkings. Ok, ruins. I really like ruins.

Sheesh, been to too many historical RP sims in SL where no one knows anything about the time period they are in. Geez, don' t people do research for their characters for historical RP sims.

Anyway, If i had a couple of free sims and didn't have to worry about tier, I would set up a couple of RP historical learning sims. Teach people how to do character research and development, teach them a bit about how to research history and incorporate it into RP, and how to write better rp.

My favorite place on earth in the Real World is Mt. St. Helens. I hike from the Johnston Ridge Observatory to the tip of Harry's Ridge as an annual spiritual retreat. Anyone who has been to the Observatory probably understands. I'd love to create a reproduction of Mt. St Helens and that hike. I could have a memorial to those who died in the eruption, a slide show or some sort of streaming video, some interactive displays and some really great places to explore. I would LOVE to do that.
I love St. Helens too. Our family has pictures of it during and after the eruption, and I still remember being dragged along shortly after, before they closed all the roads. The utter silence ... the endless gray ... the trees lying in perfect concentric circles around the blast zone ... the mud burying a bridge ... the lakeshore destroyed.

I would love to build a sim that somehow reproduced the utter eeriness of the immediate after-time ...where the whole sim somehow morphs, magically, slowly, into the current relatively fertile St. Helens ...

You could do that with bots, rebuilding the sim over and over, over a 1-week cycle.

The Weather Channel sim has an glacier melt section and a tsumani section (and I can't spell). The ice forms, melts, water rises and falls. Similiarlly the the tsumani section has buildings and chairs and stuff out in the water. The water rushes out to create a huge wall of water and then rushes in and covers the buildings, etc. then falls again back to normal. No mountains blowing up there, though there is a volcano near the Forum Cartel Hangout that erupts. Smoke pours out. Changes color. Lava flows down. No waves of knocked over trees, though.

Nika - you should see it now. Totally off topic for this thread, but if you haven't been there since the blast, it's amazing. It's like the dawn of life.

Probably have a lot of it as a public sandbox, maybe surrounded by a Maui like island with roadways and paths for vehicles and rideables. Possibly themed for monthly creative competitive single and group builds. So would also have need for tutorials on all phases from noob to advanced.

I try to go there once or twice a year :) That's what I'd love to recreate, the rebirth from devastation. Though it would be a huge project. Maybe just one corner of the sim could evolve, or maybe, one hike could evolve from devastation to regrowth over the period of a week, or day. RL, it's now in this sort of intermediate growth where you can still see the landscape when you hike, it is not yet the unbroken wall of trees more typical for the area :)

Lexxi, I've never seen either of those places, thanks! I think I'll save them for a special treat when my new PC is up and spewing frames like an eruption of video! *crosses fingers*
