What would you build on it? Also can a private island consist of more then one region?

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

A private Island IS a region.
Private Island = Region = SIM = 256x256m = 65, 536sqm. You can group regions into an Estate. When you buy a private island you are asked for the name of your island, and the estate name. Any islands you buy after that you can choose whether to have them separate or to include them within an existing estate. If I had a free island I would build The Forbidden City and populate it with the Emperor, his wives and concubines. The attention to detail would be paramount. Rock |

My favorite place on earth in the Real World is Mt. St. Helens. I hike from the Johnston Ridge Observatory to the tip of Harry's Ridge as an annual spiritual retreat. Anyone who has been to the Observatory probably understands. I'd love to create a reproduction of Mt. St Helens and that hike. I could have a memorial to those who died in the eruption, a slide show or some sort of streaming video, some interactive displays and some really great places to explore. I would LOVE to do that. Of course, I don't have the free island, so unless someone ponies one up or I hit the lotto, that ain't happenin'.

What would you build on it? Also can a private island consist of more then one region? I'd make a tropical water park.. Palm trees, sand, pools, water slides, maybe a bar or 4, some places for people to lounge in the sun and chat, floaties, surf, etc.. Maybe a semi-small dance floor for when the sun goes down. It's an estate that can be more than one island. Like Rock says, private island, sim and region are all pretty much the same thing - one 256mx256m chunch of land. |

Don't tell everybody, but......
You can have your own private island already, for free! I have one from OpenSim, downloaded from OpenLife as a standalone. My island, Wootnia, is 2 sims - works just like SL developed with LL's open source codes. I even look almost the same as I do in SL there - just slightly less tanned. BUT - there are limitations - standalones can't be connected to SL, so it's a lonely existence and some of the SL functions are disabled. And you have to create all the content yourself. They give a few quite good textures but that's all. I don't think they present a major threat to SL, though. Despite having Wootonia and building stuff there I still spend more of my time in SL. |

Why have an island that nobody gets to play on? No man is an island unto himself...(sorry. couldn't resist) _____________________

If I had an island... Ok, I'd probably need four, and have to build in the corner, to have all the prims I'd need...
I'd build I-6, Castle Ravenloft. The best horror-related AD&D module ever written, with complete blueprints for the Castle and it's surrounding areas. I've built it in HalfLife 2's map editor, I'm pretty durn familiar with it - and it would rock to be able to have all of SL see the place. |

Something based on the four seasons. Maybe a tropical beach merging into a Japanese spring (complete with cherry blossom trees), up to a Vermont fall, then finally to a snowy mountainside. I think the main trick would be getting the flow right, so there was a sense of transformation, rather than just seasonal views plunked next to each other.

It doesn't get utilized to its best potential, no matter how much it's publicized. _____________________

I would create a place for others.
A place to explore, hangout, and have fun. Not sure about specifics, but i just know i would want others to enjoy it. But then I can't build - so i would just design and get someone else to do the hard work ![]() _____________________

I would certainly visit (if you let me...) I recently visited Gypsy Moon and loved it - like walking inside a painting. I think that's what I would do if I had the ability. Some kind of environment you can't find in RL. I love all the nature Sims, in fact, it's usually where I spend most of my time inworld. With all the possibilities offered using SL, I just wish there were more outlandish sims. _____________________

I'd strand a group of people on it, with no ready way to escape, but with the materials necessary to fabricate just about anything. There would be one really smart guy who could design all sorts of things. And there would be this one guy who would keep messing things up........

Would you then name this Island Hilligan? No, Hooligan. And it would be one those SL Newbie Indoctrination camps like the NBA, or CSI deals _____________________

I'm not sure what _I_ would do, but I'm sure many of the people I know would wonder what happened to me and send me IMs just to be sure I'm still alive. (=_=)
