Stop Looking Like You Are Typing

That is probably because you were not here when the typing animation was all that we had and was not able to be toggled on/off via a debug menu or Animation Overide. Because of this, 5 years later, i find myself very attached to that particular detail of SL.

I find that to be an odd categorization. You don't like it, fine...it is sort of lame, but the lesser of a few evils for me. No indicator is annoying and typing overriders, no matter how well they work for others, have always made me feel like a bit of a dork when I tried them. But why is the default typing anim 'noobish'? Most of the older avatars I know purposely leave it intact.

Is this your first account? I have this theory that the people who worry most about looking like 'noobs' have been in SL less than a year. Older avs stop caring so much and just do their thing.


Buy toys with higher priority animations and that won't happen.

I have a gesticulating AO that wd be fine for non-typing cues but it looks overly dramatic- something else wd be better but no- I don't type either-- don't like it at all.

Never been a fan of the typing animation and the sound is just as bad as clacking of women's shoes. Turn it off. After a week or two you won't even miss it.

Well, I enjoy a good fight as much as the next person but I think we're simply down to personal preferences. Looking goofy vs usability. Not like we're ever going to agree on this one.

I've been thinking that some hand gestures OTHER than typing would be good. Like in RL when you're chatting... hands and arms move around etc... but not like Magnus Pyke. lol

The typing AO I have looks like some mad thespian emoting for a silent film.

Back on topic: There should be some sort of animation to indicate a person is typing. Text just silently appearing out of nowhere creeps me out.

If I am having a conversation with one person, I look at them. Usually the head bobs slightly when they are typing.

I loathe the typing anim and can't say I've ever had anyone complain or walk away in the middle of a conversation. If I'm interacting with a relative stranger or customer at my store, I'll start with a simple "hello" to acknowledge them, then for further lines of dialogue I'll type fast and keep my sentences relatively short.

Friends, with which I have more extended conversations, don't appear to have any trouble assuming that I'm listening to them and will answer.

The typing anim could be worse. It could be more in the style of David Bellamy.

I worked at a Mexican restaurant (owned and run by actual Mexicans!) during the summers while I was in college. The guacamole recipe was avocados, salsa made by the cooks according to a 'secret' recipe, salt, and a bit of lime (to prevent browning).

It was nummeh beyond belief and had no friggin' sour cream!
