Folks Whose Posts or Thread - "you just HAVE to read"!

This is another point that impacts forum posts for me. As a visual learner, I don't identify people so much by their names (at first) as by the forum avatar or even the advertisement in the signature. So those of you without pictures I tend to lump into an anonymous mass at first. I may read the post and only then look over to see who it is.

Of course I recognize the regulars even without pictures, but for those of you who don't post a lot, it might help me and other visual learners to have a picture or signature to identify you post to post.

That's a really interesting point, as I tend to do the same. Even if you do have a picture, there are a few regulars who's pics look somewhat similar in my eyes, and it gets me confused about who said what if I'm only taking a cursory glance at a thread.

And, pics in sigs, and ads, often interest me enough to go visit the store or place that the sig identifies. Yes, I've been to 'Hello Avatard!' to buy useless crap, even brought a friend with.

Unfortunately, that option is no longer available. Weblin has gone out of business.

omg how embarassing ... it's a sorry excuse for a store. there's nothing in it. i make stuff and never put it up for sale or can't be bothered to make vendor images for it.

And btw, i loved the art show at the Cape Able gallery .. interesting pieces from the photography to the abstract and sculptural pieces!

It's a cute store with cute lil stuff. I enjoyed it. Glad you enjoyed the gallery on Cape Able. I saw you on my radar but you arrived at the end of the dance reception, and I was already on the other end of the sim, setting up for another party that was to follow. (a deaf group gathering.) Thanks for coming. Did you at least get to enjoy my awesome, incredible DJ, RockandRoll Michigan? He was winding down by that time, too. I'm so glad I made my whiny, anxious post here on the forums about hiring a DJ for an art reception, because his responses allowed me to find him, plus, he already knew the scoop and the fears I had about a dance reception at an art exhibit. As it turned out, his personality and the great music he played (big variety, all danceable) brought plenty people out of the gallery to dance, after they'd viewed the art, which was exactly what I was hoping for.

Oh I'm glad you got a good turn out. Unfortunately I wasn't able to stay for the party part, though it looked like it was winding down. You'll have to let everyone know when you have another showing. It's great that SL offers a venue for those with a creative streak to show off their talents in a much more accessible way than in rl. Keep up the good work!

Are you talking about me? Bot statistics? That can't realistically be done every week, since it takes several days of full-time effort to gather statistically useful amounts of data. The last time I did it was November, and I probably couldn't do it again if I wanted to.

The original surveys had to ignore bots in active clubs because I can't say with enough certainty that bots are bots. Not manually, anyway. So the original survey called everyone in a busy club human. Compared to the total number of avatars this wasn't a large number, so it didn't cause me to substantially under-count bots.

Now, though, we're seeing more hard-to-detect bots. I'm not sure if it's the result of the bots and campers ban or if this would have happened anyway, but we're seeing more bot flash mobs now, and we're starting to see more shopping bots. These would be at least as difficult as club bots to detect.

Really, only LL has the means to detect bots these days, and if they aren't willing then we won't know how many bots there are. I can only count the obvious ones, and those are getting to be a smaller and smaller portion of the total.

Or was it my search analysis? It'd be interesting to do more of that, but I don't really have the time. I'd like to do an analysis on a bunch of keywords and find out how few people control the top results in each of them, and then analyze all of them as a set.

I read and obey. (Well, sometimes. But basically I'd just never really thought about posting a pic before. ^_^)

Hmn. Maybe there's a waiting period (in which someone checks to make sure the pic doesn't violate TOS)...? (I can see other people's pics, so that's not the problem.)

My pictures update immediately. Maybe you're just not elite enough?

But also because I was working with "Profile Picture" instead of "Avatar". (Okay, I'd interpreted "Avatar" to mean stats about my, well, avatar. How foolish of me!)

I wont post their name but i read their post because i find it funny how they claim to be the best and biggest in SL and offer so much but yet are always advertising. Makes me wonder how good they really are going

Phil -- His contributions to the "Comprehensive Guide to Search" sticky are a must-read for anyone with a business in SL. I wish Phil was still making contributions as often as he used to. Even when I disagreed, such as on the bot issues, I found his posts informative.

mostly I go by the topic of the thread but I do admit there are just some threads that are like a train wreck....ya dont want to look but you just cant stop yourself.

I've noticed this with a couple people as well. So i took a trip to their store - several times - and lo-and-behold - crickets everywhere, everytime.

I wonder if Phil knows one of his beds is on display at the Sex Furniture Museum on Zindra.
