I have noticed in myself, there are people that pst here that I absolutely have to go read- I don't mean because of relationships and involvements- that goes without saying- I mean people who are just so damn interesting in what they have to say - about anything -

So - who do you read and why?

I generally click anything Des posts to - I don't know him personally, never spoken a word to him, but find he has all sorts of insight on things in various topics -

Mmm - a gentleman that has a cat -like forum pic in Victorian clothes and a hat but cannot recall his name right now-have to go look up- always leaves me with a laugh or a 'hmmm" thought.

Djin - absolutely;- damn brilliant poster with wit and a decidedly twisted sense :)

Kaimi - although I do not always agree - she is too damn tolerant and sweet at times when i want to slice and dice someone - but that's why i read her- she calms me.

Chosen - his stuff on textures is always instructional -

Claire - she is a breath of freshness and an RL that makes me remember being that age :)

Seven - she just cracks me up with her adventures

Lindal - so informative and the first person from the forums I met in-world.

If i think of more folks i particularly enjoy I will add-

Point of this I guess is to maybe point other people out who we may have missed- I was inspired by a post a few days ago say Sussane Baskerville was known for being particularly helpful- (yes i am killing her name and i apologize).

So who makes you go look?

I miss seeing Sling and Phil flirt back and forth. Did they get divorced? Brenda has a great wit. I wish Anya would do a once a week report on statistics. I don't care for ferrets....but Argent is a good spokesperson for them, and might sway that opinion a tad. Jumpy is very intriguing.

Amaranthim...you and Treasure and Sable are always a breathe of fresh of air....and without your balance to the rough edges here, would flip the switch, and not return.....always walk away with something from you ladies.

Mari, Desmond, and Argent: All around good people. (^_^)

Pep: Because I "get" him. (^_^)

Jumpy: JUUUMPEH!!! XD

And, I re-read my own posts out of fear that I said something stupid ALL the time. (>_<;)

Yep, I have a few people who I like a lot and look out for.

My favorite poster is Qie, just sane as in the face of madness when it bursts out.

Daniel with the double banger name from Wiki makes straight clear posts.

Argent's for cutting to the essence in a sentence or two.

Chris for saying it straight.

Spinster Voom when she occasionally posts is clear as a bell.

Lear made a comment once about old hippys, open minds and George Bush, that I have never forgotten and really dug.

Smith P is very likable and funny.

and when in good form Pep can be bloody funny insightful and gutsy.

Scylla Rhiadra popping in and giving her socio-political views on a hot topic is always a good read.

This thread can only result in hurt feelings.
Only if someone if obnoxious enough to mention someone that they never read or if whomever is not mentioned by name takes it personally to think that folks don't like them or something.

I have not been mentioned by name and I am probably not the posting type that someone would make sure they read everything I write (except maybe my husband to make sure I am being a good girl), but I know that many here still like me a lot and do like much of what I offer.

As for me: I love reading many people and do 'mostly' only pull up a thread if the topic grabs my eye (or someone points it out in another thread). I never skip over a Des post just because there seems to be much wisdom and sanity there. I do love reading Pep most of the time - he has his moments where he comes off a bit wrong even to me, but mostly I **get** him also. I also enjoy most of Jig's stuff, odd as that may seem to some. If I see a Chosen post, I read them simply because most of them contain really good info. I also think it depends on my mood sometimes. There are times I will read every post in a thread and other times I'll skim thru until a name catches my eye.

Ya, that too. I tend to look at the title of a thread an if I feel I have anything to add on the topic, I'll jump in.

Me too (own posts), so I can be sure at least someone does :D

Anyway, among my favorites are Des, Jig and Pep, but many more of course. The latter two manage to annoy me at times as well (well Pep more then Jig  ) yet I do like to read them most of the times.

Would starting a thread: Who do you hate to read be a good idea? On second thought... let's not get into that *grins*.

This thread gives me a sad. I like the "welcome all" culture of SL's forums, and really loathe popularity contests.

SLU has a strong hero worship culture, and those who like stratified forum societies may find that appealing.

I read threads if:

1. They pose actual questions about SL, particularly threads from folks I've never seen before.

2. I think I may learn something.

3. They are started by folks in whom I'm interested, particularly "friends".

I like no one in particular..I read post if they sound interesting, does not matter the poster. There are a few nice people and even more not so nice people.

This really does sound like a popularity contest post.

This thread gives me a sad. I like the "welcome all" culture of SL's forums, and really loathe popularity contests.

In general, I agree with this sentiment, and similar ones expressed here by a few others. I think that the idea was to make this thread a sort of light, feel-good thing, but the potential here for implicitly creating coteries and such makes the effect seem a bit high school to me, where "friendship" isn't just about exchanging bracelets, but also about exclusion.

So instead of telling you WHO I like to read, I'll tell you WHAT.

Overall, I have found my interest in threads here to be really diverse. I'm not much of a techie, but I have learned a great deal from some of the more technical threads. I have fairly strong ideological views, but I have learned a great deal also from those who express strongly viewpoints that are opposed to mine.

What I like in a posting, in varying degrees, is a display of rationality and logic, as well as instruction and information, but more even than that kindness, humour, and sympathy. I see that as integral to the "welcome all" culture that Nika talks about.

What I don't like is . . . well, the opposite of the above. Particularly posts that seek to exclude through one means or another.

I had a pretty tough time getting "into" this forum initially; in part, that was my fault, as I really didn't "get" the culture here, and had some rather faulty assumptions about the function of this place and how it worked.

But I've actually struck up some friendships here, which is lovely, and these people I like bantering back and forth with, because that kind of exchange really is about kindness, humour, and acceptance. One or two of these new friends are people with whom I have VERY strong disagreements politically or socially. But that's cool: I've never believed in villifying those with whom I disagree, nor do I believe I have a monopoly on the truth.

Conversely, I don't think there IS anyone whose posts I avoid or DON'T want to read. Even when I dislike their tone or content.

Sorry if this sounds a bit Pollyanna-ish . . . :o

LOL!

Thanks. It is mutual. :)

I suspect I probably came across a bit . . . strong? . . . initially. :o

PS. Wanna exchange friendship bracelets? :D

guys- it is not a popularity contest- hell like i said- a couple of the folks I always read I dont even know! I just know i am going to find something in what they said that i will come out the better for having read it. I have close friends i love dearly not included in the list above- Not cause i wont read them but simply because i was pointing out people whose mere presence in a topic makes me go look. Yes the topic is foremost and i will read somehting with a good title (god i hate ones that start... Question - or What about.. or anything else that you have no flipping clue what the topic is!)

I cannot see why there would be hurt feelings- I read a lot more than i listed its just those at least came to mind as hmm wonder what they had to say about that- that sort of thing. I am sure many don't give a fig about what I have to say so if i personally am not on anyone's list it is not going to make me go pout- shees -

I skip threads rather than posters and have some favorites that come to mind:

Pep: to see if he will finally lose his temper and/or to see whose temper he has provoked.

Jig: to see what mischief she is getting up to. I love Jig's posts, ever when I sometimes vcover my eyes and say, "Now she's done it."

Des: because we no longer speak and I like the odd dose of, "Oh hai!".

Mellita: She came to my notice in the Berln thread. I admire her level head and clear communication.

Scylla: (I skim to be truthful, as I have the attention span of a gnat) I like her integrity of opinion and ability to stand up for what she believes is right.

Smith: Smith has proclaimed a spanking of Jig wish, and as Jig's mammy I keep a scowly watch on that situation.

Osprey and Spinster: Ever since the What is Pep thread I look for their posts. I wish they posted more often.

Deira: For the ditties and her knowledge of subjects I know very little about :) Unparalleled.

I am forgetting loads :o
