SL Business not using search gaming to increase profits = Not Greedy.

I see from the quotes of Pie's posts that he is finally almost approaching the reality of intent. I've pointed it out before, but it didn't suit a few people.

There is nothing in the Places tab that suggests the figures are anything other than traffic - no mention of popularity. The traffic does exist, as Ciaran pointed out. There is no lie there. If my intention is to tell people that all that traffic represents genuine popularity (normal avs on the land), then I would be lying, but as everyone in this thread should know from way back, I have no such intention. *IF* a few people choose to misunderstand what the figures mean, that's their doing, and not mine.

That's ok for you, but for most people in the world, businesses trying to increase profits != greed, and businesses trying to increase profits == normal. RL and SL are both the same. SL business is RL business. But you may consider any way you like.

I'll change that. The desire for more != greed, because there are circumstances where more is essential in order to survive. When more is not needed either to survive or to expand, then I accept that greed is probably close to the mark.

Most people are greedy when looked at like that. Not many people would turn down a job that pays a lot more, for instance. Not because the extra money is essential, but because they just want the money. I admit to being like most people in that respect.

Are you trying to make a point? I fit the first line, so I don't understand what you are trying to say.

I've no doubt that you are just as greedy as everyone else. I added a paragraph to my last post that you should read.

Those that are now admitting their greed should not presume to judge others by their own low standards. There are obviously some people who will not increase profits at all cost and try not to live their lives through greed and subversiveness. Just as there are some who choose that path.

Oh, my judgement of other people is not wrong. If you don't agree, you must have led a very sheltered life so far. There are not many people whould turn down a job that pays a lot more. Not because they need the extra money, but because they just want it. I have no doubt that you are not one of the few people. Almost all of us would be happy with extra money, whether it's needed or not, so my judgement is sound.

Since I do nothing "shady", and I will not "increase profits at all costs", I don't know what you're trying to say.

[added]
Everything I do to increase or maintain profits is out in the open - nothing shady about it. If the few people who object to it can't be bothered to open the map and check, what's it to do with me?

There are none as blind as them that will not see.

The job analogy is flawed on so many levels just like so many other analogies.

What is the use of trafficbots other then to game the system?

What is "gaming" a system other then shady?

O wait... it's just normal business, huh?

Except it's not normal. It's shady.

But Phil does have a hard time making basic distinctions. Case in point... regardless of how many times he calls me "HE" I am in fact (and in fiction) a natural-born "SHE".

I know I've said it like a gazillion times, hell I can even prove it, but just to illustrate a point, I'll mention it again.

It was used to show that people are more than happy to take extra money whether they need it or not. You included! It responded to the word "greed" being used to describe businesses that try to increase profits. If you find fault with businesses doing that, perhaps you should explain your thinking.

You speak only for yourself Phil, nobody else.

I am sure it salves your conscience to tar everyone with the same brush but not everyone lives their life through greed.

If I have to explain why the job analogy is flawed then it would already be a waste of text because you could never see it.

Nope. I speak from life's experience. You may speak only for yourself if you wish.

See above. My conscience doesn't come into my thinking.

Or perhaps you can't explain it. I have to assume that, until you do.

Let me put it another way. If you received $20,000 free, and you don't actually need it, what would you do with it? Keep it and be glad to have got it, or give it to where it is actually needed? A few people would give it away, but most wouldn't. That's the point. Most would be glad to have the extra money, even though they don't need it and others do. It's that greed, as someone put it.

I am speaking about most people, and I have no doubt that you are one of the "most people". You may not be, but the chances are enormous that you are.

Ahhhhh the infamous Phil Deakins "Many if not Most" analogy.

Don't you ever get tired of that one?

How, Phil, could you possibly know what "Most" people want or whom they would have speak for them?

Greedy people cannot conceive of a world without greed and that others may not be like them - you only prove that with what you post Phil.

Experienced people know what people are like on the whole. Experienced people can conceive of a world without greed, but they know that it has never existed, doesn't exist, and never will exist, because they know the common nature of people.

If you are talking about SL as a world without greed, I should leave now if I were you. It stopped being that the monet the first business opened. I wasn't here, but I know people. As long as business is allowed in SL, the greed that we are talking about - the desire to have more - will flourish, and as time goes by, it will flourish more and more. Most little businesses in SL don't exist to make money, so they can say that they aren't greedy for more, but some are RL businesses that look to grow (greed again). We are not talking about a play world and play money - we are talking about the real world, real money, and real business practises. If you want a utopia, go elsewhere, because it doesn't exist is SL, and it never will.

Yes the whole world is only driven by greed. That is why we have homeless shelters, soup kitchens and thousands of other charity, environmental and aid organisations. It is also why even some of the richest as well as the poorest people give of themselves altruistically.

Or are they in it for the greed only too? That is a rhetorical question - you don't need to answer.

I think the word "Myopic" is relevant here.

Im starting to believe that all the bot threads are simply another platform for those who use them to advertise. you will notice a few perpetuate arguments only to keep their name at the minds of others, it does work, those names are ones I will avoid :)

Cause and effect, what do you think causes people to need homeless shelters and soup kitchens? There's more than enough money in the western world to make the need for such places redundant.
