I guess i've missed something on SL all those years... What hippo's? and why is it so important? Can someone explain it clearly to me? (e.g. with examples if needed) Cos i read about hippo's often here on the forum, and inworld too (and some blogs) but nobody writes/explains about what the fuzz is all about in the first place... ![]() i've never stumbled into a hippo object (shaped like one), if that's what's it about.. (still doesn't explain the important element of it though) See http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/Hippo Also, you'll still see hippos in their rightful place at a few of the infohubs _____________________

Heeey... that wiki entry Marianne posted says that Feb 15'th is SL National Hippo day.
It would so fitting if we reached the 1000 vote mark by then! |

I just spoke to Marianne before she zipped offline:
[11:22] Marianne McCann: Looks like the hippos is now in discussion on the SL developers directory chat group, an has more votes than any other bug (there are some features that are higher). It was triaged this mornin, too Very exciting! _____________________

Maybe this is a good thing, but I've never seen this occur in my viewer, so I don't really care. The good thing being that I've never actually seen it.

It's at 693 now! Maybe with a bit more of a shove, we can get this further up.

Perhaps some posts on blogs, in social networks, etc. would pick up a few votes.
One could leave a few jira info dispenser prims out in the LL sandboxes, I guess. _____________________

I'm adding it to mine even as we speak. I'm thinking of how to work it into a group message that won't tick my customers off.

I am truly amazed at what can be accomplished when SL folks band together. So, I vote Ghostly Kips as our official nominee for US President in the 2012 election. Oh to hell with boundaries, let's find a nominee to rule the whole damn WORLD! Ghostly, are you up to this "call to duty"???? (Oh, and Honeybear, Pep and Phil MUST considered for high level posts as well...)

I was talking to soft a few moments after he posted the challenge. He said he had already pulled the old code and had it ready, and guessed that it would reach 1000 by around wendsday.
So he definitely didn't think it was impossible ![]() |

I modified the 'Save Our Hippos' sign to give a link to the jira and also a free t-shirt on touch and put 2 of them in Cordova. On login a day later I found this IM waiting for me: [2009/02/10 8:31] -------: (Saved Tue Feb 10 02:42:43 2009) Hello Ron. I've found your "save our hippos" signs in Sandbox Cordova. I am sure this is a well meant action, however, there is a No Advertising rule in public sandboxes. Would you please come and remove the signs? Some people just don't get it ![]() |

And Mari has done tons more than I have. We get the hippos back, that's all I want. ![]() edit: and stop calling me Ghostly. ![]() _____________________

On login a day later I found this IM waiting for me: Perhaps one of the Linden staff that support this issue could put some "Save our Hippo" dispensers up in the sandboxes, and the sandbox patrol might try to find something else to nag people about. _____________________
