This issue has 77 votes at the time of this writing.
I have created a new group "Save The Hippos!", to help us achieve that goal. Members will be able to invite others and help spread the word - go to the JIRA and vote on this issue!
I'll try and get the group key a little later ... go inworld and pull the group up from my profile, and help us reach the 1,000 vote goal!

Voted. If anyone could make up a sign to put up, business owners could put them in front of their businesses. It would be ideal if the sign when clicked, took them to the JIRA, and maybe have a short history of the Hippo as a notecard.

I just got out of chat with Mari, and she sent me a couple of the textures she used for signs. Rather than invent the wheel, I'll use one of those for a clickable sign for the JIRA site and a notecard. _____________________

The pink hippo at the hangout is now holding a protest sign that is "anyone can copy". Clocking the sign takes you to the JIRA issue in the browser, and hands out a short notecard about the hippo.

You want votes? Herewith follows ideas.
Mari, make your adorable hippo into a shoulder pet. Package it in a cute vendor with a "vote for hippos" notecard (including instructions on Jira voting and a cute 'story of the hippos' paragraph), a Vote For Hippos tshirt, sign textures, etc. AND THEN > Have forum store owners who send out Fashcon notices (I KNOW YOU'RE OUT THERE!) mention the freebie packet, available at their store > Send a copy to SL Freestyle and other blogs > Have Caledon members mention it in Caledon group chat > Send Cris Midnight a copy and ask him to start a thread about it on SLU (if they haven't already, haven't been back there in ages)  |

I'm totally in the dark on this one...anybody care to explain? from the notecard: "The hippo, unofficial mascot of Second Life, is a part of SL lore that goes back to beta. A short history of the hippo in SL can be had at the SL Wiki: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Hippo An Easter egg was introduced into the viewer code that allowed Residents to proclaim "Hippos!' when bugs were discovered and squashed. Of course, the old easter egg refers not just to the bug-squashing, evil-gnome-squishing hippos of times past, but also symbolizes the happy-go-lucky nature the Lindens once had with Residents. The Easter egg (Ctl-Alt-Shft-H) symbolised this happy time, a way for any and every resident to proclaim "HIPPOS!" whenever they liked. Currently, this Easter egg has been removed from the viewer. We do not want to see SL history removed one piece at a time - and we're determined to stop the erosion of Second Life culture at the root.
