Maybe it's just me, but isn't posting to the SL Official Forum asking folk to migrate to a competitor service rather poor form?

Isn't what LL are doing rather poor form?

I know that there are a lot of problems with securing SL content, and I understand that. But the above post basically said that, if creators don't go and sell their stuff in OLG, they shouldn't be surprised when people copy it from SL, because after all they can't be expected to have nothing in OLG can they? And - that's a despicable attitude.

If there's people with talent, no matter where they are they will make something themselves. That's either from scratch or using full perms items they have either paid for or they have been given with permission.

There is bound to be some stuff stolen because, sadly, people simply are not very nice.

I choose to think that the pioneer spirit that SL had once is still out there and that some people do still have some integrity but no doubt the drama lovers will have a field day (this is not aimed at you Yumi!!!)

As I understand it, there is nothing at OLG which can be gained from at this time. Still having said that, no doubt people from SL will set up shop when there is an economy and even though you may have spent 5K L$ on that amazing sex bed you'll be expected to pay it all over again even if they KNOW you were a customer in SL.

Meh

That sounds like an opportunity for SL sellers - 50% discount for those who already bought it in SL - when there's an economy there.

actually if it were to go by the economy things would have to be cheaper in price until the economy evens out so they can get the same price as they would in sl..things have gotten more expensive in sl than they used to be.
just as everything starts off from scratch so do prices and job pay otherwise you have an unstable economy and more than likely won't do as well charging more than most are making..
a fair market value in that world may be a whole different lessor number than say in sl is what i am meaning ..

Try being happy with what you DO have there, instead of becoming as embittered by Openlife as you are about SL.

If Openlife were fully developed - if its grid were populated, there were a functioning economy, IP issues were dealt with so creators were comfortable, it could scale to 75K online without crashing, and had the land mass SL has -- would it be as cheap as it now is?

It would be at a price competitive with SL depending on if they could secure similarly priced utility and service contracts, etc... And with what they are offering it might even require more work than SL and $.

We'll find out in a 3-5 years i guess.

This is why LL is complacent and will keep slowly strangling the goose that laid the golden egg. They have a light year head start on content (thanks to us) and there is no comparable system. Once they figure out how to further monetize the user base, they will have an opportunity to jump forward even further with development of new technologies. It will take someone crazy enough to build a system that functions exactly like this - with a working economy, and the unlimited potential to create content - before they will give a damn. They are in dire need of competition.

I can understand the problem though - that SL has content-based network effect. Essentially, because SL has the content, users will tend to prefer it; and because users prefer it, making/selling content there is a better idea, because there are more customers. I strongly suspect that, for this reason, the Lindens don't really want there to be a secure way to transfer content between grids.
