From: Couldbe Yue The last time I was in the MOTD said the week commencing 25/5.. it didn't happen during that week as I was in and out all the time..
and I've just gone back in and that login message about the 25th is still there and my inventory is still from the last refresh in february (?? certainly before march anyway). So it looks like that for the cost of buying SI at least some of the inventory can be recovered. Although if the OP doesn't create much or have too many full perm items it won't be that useful. I think the OP tried it, unsuccessfully. I think it would be unsuccessful if they hadn't logged into Aditi since the previous db update. What seems to happen, as best I can tell, is that when one first logs into Aditi after a db update, it fetches a copy of one's inventory into Aditi. That makes some sense, rather than copying the entire database each time Aditi is updated. I think you keep that inventory until the next db update. If anyone knows that it works differently from that, I'd sure like to learn about it.

It either is or a couple of days off my 5th anniversary in SL. I can say with absolute certainty that I have NEVER paid tier immediately when I bought mainland. It has always been on my billing date after the purchase. I have owned alot of land off and on over the years and this has been how it always worked for me.

I just resurrected an account created an item then logged into aditi and there it was. it's a shame they don't do a refresh every time I logged in, it would certainly make my life easier.

From: Phil Deakins I wonder if some people have misunderstood by coincidentally buying land on or just before their billing date. That had occurred to me actually. The other possibility is buying Estate land and not realizing it is not the same as mainland.

Billing
07-06-2009 14:51
This should settle how we are billed for mainland From conceirge; Tcko_Cazalet: Hi Keira I have a simple question...is it possible to get transactions for the first two months from when i joined SL...my join date is 5/10/2007...I mainly want the land purchase transactions Keira: Unfortunately, there is not way to retrieve records that far back. We only store the last 30 days of transactions. Tcko_Cazalet: thats what i thought thanks anyway ^ ^ Keira: You are welcome. Is there anything else I can help you with? Tcko_Cazalet: we have an arguement about how tier is charged Tcko_Cazalet: i say we are charged after we purchase land Tcko_Cazalet: on our billing date Keira: For mainland, that is correct. You are billed for the most amount of land you owned in the last 30 days on your billing date. Tcko_Cazalet: can i copy this to post? Keira: Certainly. You can also point to http://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=4526 which has the same information. Tcko_Cazalet: thanks keira now u can deal with the others Tcko_Cazalet: have a good one

That means you're, at the least, double-charged for the first land purchase you make.

From: Argent Stonecutter That means you're, at the least, double-charged for the first land purchase you make. No way....I bought my first land near the end of may 2007....my tier on it was 40usd I wasn't billed until june 16th 2007 for my first tier for the land i bought in May. I can go back to that date to see how much I spent but its doesnt tell what for but it does show my first tier payment. Example: Lets say your billing date is on the 10th of the month....and you buy land on the 9th...you would pay tier the next day.....but if you bought land on the 11th you would not pay tier until the 10th of the next month

I had to actually pay for my tier on my land before I could start buying land for Coonspiracy Central. I had made sure I had enough L$ to get the land and then I had to wait for the money to transfer from my bank account to paypal, for the tier, before I could buy it. Either they did things differently in early 2006, or it was because I was buying it for a group and I had to pay for the group tier before I could donate it to the group. Either way, if they're not billing me in advance they're double-billing me.

Re the "is tier charged in advance or arrears" question, I can answer how it was charged for me since I keep *all* my transaction records. I made my first land purchase early in October 2007, initially for a small 768m2 plot, but a few days later I purchased other adjoining plots sufficient to put me in the $25/month tier range. My first ever tier payment, as confirmed on my account statement that I just retrieved from the SL website, was $25 on October 25 2007. Note also (for what it's worth) that the SL website page here states the following: "The Land Use Fee is a monthly charge for the peak amount of land held during the previous 30 days"

My first purchase was around the end of Nov. 06 and I was billed for tier on my due date in Dec. Every time I've gone up in tier I've tried to do it as soon after my billing date as possible and when I've gone down in tier I've tried to do it as close to my billing date as possible and I've gone up and down 4 times. The only time I’ve not bought land for one of my groups is my first land purchase (note I had a free 512sq to start back then) so all land I’ve bought has been for one of my groups. However if you drop in tier due to selling land and fail to update your tier on the web site you will be billed for the old higher tier... that happened to me the first time I went down in tier. Like wise every time I’ve tried to buy more land for one of my groups I’ve had to go on the web site and raise my tier before I had enough land to donate to group for the purchase. Hope this makes sense Argent.

It's ironic that Premium accounts which fall behind with payments end up getting their inventories purged, whereas there seems to be no mechanism to weed out Premiums whose automated payments keep going through year after year although they never log in any more. You know what I mean - the rez-and-run Premium newbies who buy land, put a few objects on it and then give up on SL.

I haven't logged in yet but I did have problems upgrading my credit so I decide to attach my account to paypal.
Not sure what is going on. I guess they lost my credit card information.

[2.40 AM Pacific] We are experiencing errors with our Global Collect System. This will mean that some credit cards will fail to update and some purchases will not go through. We are working to rectify this as soon as possible and will keep you updated on the situation.

Arrears or advance isn't the issue there. The fundamental issue is that it insane to delete people's inventories. Ever. Period.
Even if they are banned, if legal action pends from that ban (and it has done in the past), if someone is locked out there's no reason to do anything to their inventory at all *in the first year or two*.
I can totally see reclaiming land. I could even see converting Lindens to cash to cover debts, I have never bought the notion that Lindens are monopoly money, if they were, there wouldn't be TWO Linden Labs-owned currency exchanges. Aditi money, now THAT is monopoly money.
But deleting inventory? That's just vandalism.
If everyone had to pay to store their inventories, it might make sense. But since the only people who apparently are paying to store inventories are premium members.... well, I'm just glad I downgraded last year.
If the issue is inventory space... give us an archive inventory, and shift those people to the archive until there's some reason not to.
I would expect avatar-uploaded textures might remain because there is no way of deleting a texture by choice from the server, one can delete instances of it, but the UUID remains forever. Leaving the textures in inventory might allow LL to track it better, I don't know.

Within the last week, I had my tier charged in advance. I reactivated Premium, bought the land and was charged for tier. Unless they have added a new charge.
Time Note Amount Ending Balance 07/04/2009 23:26:13 Customer Payment ($15.00) $0.00 07/04/2009 22:10:41 Recurring Mainland Fees (up to 2048 meters): $15 $15.00 $15.00 07/04/2009 07:59:42 Customer Payment ($40.30) $0.00 07/04/2009 07:59:42 LindeX Currency Buy $40.30 $40.30 07/04/2009 07:55:34 Initial Monthly subscription ($9.95) $0.00 07/04/2009 07:55:34 Initial Monthly subscription $9.95 $9.95
What is the recurring mainland fee unless it is tier? I did not regain premium or buy the land until 7/4. I wasn't expecting the tier charge until 8/4.
