i thought i had a pretty good question actually..
i just basically wanted to know if the movement was based from the movie or is it different..
is it like a big brother is watching type of thing or sharing a more efficient way of doing things?
i saw the movie but didn't know there was a movement and sometimes the two end up being a bit different because some like some of the things and set some aside..
that's all i was wanting to know in my first post..

the dog pew pew delivry was just for the snooping irs agents that are coming..i figured give them something to smell since they got the smell update and we didn't lol :D

Hi OP, if you want to affect change through SL, it is my belief that you have to have a primary interest in finding out about SL itself before trying to use it as a medium for your political views. Experienced and intelligent SL residents will respect you more for it.

If you don't know how to TP around, send notecards, etc., all your knowledge is for naught in SL because you'll come off as a noob who is just in SL to further a cause and not actually be a PART of SL, and your valuable thoughts will get nowhere.

So if you want to do this, first put aside your views and just explore and learn about SL for what it is for a good three months at least. Otherwise, you're just going to get a big headache and be tempted to say "SL is useless for my cause" which is really saying "I'm not interested enough in SL to use it to further my cause so I'll blame SL for being what it is and SL residents for being what they are, instead of blaming myself for not investing enough time and energy into the platform itself to actually get to know people and places before I start prosletyzing (err informing) about my own agenda."

good luck with your movement. I just think that most people who come to SL as new residents thinking "I'm going to do THIS in SL!" would be better rewarded if they did not first try to frame their SL experience with their own motives. Just my opinion :)

Thanks for that.
I am on SL but in another life hehe. Doing exactly what you said.
Good advice and thanks but i beat you to it.

Sorry Ceka,
I don`t mean to give the impression I am ignoring people, It`s just that I have sooo much to do. You see the ZGM `s main objective is to spread awareness and this is my part time, un-paid job. The second main objective is to TRY and help people understand what we are about. Well the best place for that is on the ZGM forums. I`m happy that you are showing some interest and suggest that you visit one of the many forums that are popping up around the world.
I`m British and in the UK so my forum of choice is Zeitgeistuk.ning.uk. We are dor`s on this forum as opposed to intellects battling it out on the USA forum.(however, they are starting to do now) Many of your questions will be answered on the ZG forums. And don`t worry about `big brother`. If you are, all the more reason for joining the ZGM. Let`s get rid of the big brother capitalist trumps. Not with guns and bombs, that`s too easy.... With our minds and hearts. Please, please don`t think of the ZGM as a cult.
Tell you what, Google `Jacque Fresco interviews` and listen to what he has to say on you tube. He is 70 ish now and a self made genius. There is nothing `cultish` about Fresco or the people who think his ideas are brilliant.
I admit that it takes some time to absorb all that is ZG. But at the end of the day, all Fresco (and many many millions of us) wish for, is a peaceful and long lasting world to live in.
Now where is the harm in that? If you want to get paranoid about what big brother is going to say about that, then you have been sucked in too far. But because you have shown some interest, there may be some hope for you.
Don`t be afraid of the ZGM and don`t get worried about big brother. Just be yourself and do what you think is right for the ONE life that you have.
Sorry if I didn`t answer your question the way you would have liked.

I'm glad the OP isn't giving up. I'd never heard of this movement, but being somewhat of a non conformist in several areas, I looked at the information he provided and more. I still don't subscribe to the philosophy for the most part, and I do think that what SL is becoming will not be a particularly nourishing environment for it, but no harm in trying. But I do think something like this is better suited to the "Early Adopter" era as opposed to the "Predictable" age SL is apparently embarked on.

I believe they really only came here to spam for that retarded film.

Oh Milla! I understand where you're coming from, but I do think we should give people the benefit of the doubt! This individual is obviously at home with internet fora and feels confident in that environment, but is hopelessly lost on the Grid. It will take time - SL has a high learning curve. A spammer will show their true colours too - just give them time.

It's a bit to religious/political for me, I am leery of people who push or lure for belief systems.

Another thing I could offer: in the spirit of Our age in Caledon, I can offer you the floor of the Caledon Gaiety Theatre in Caledon Penzance, where you can do a talk to our citizenry, with a question and answer series thereafter.

One national group notice in Caledon, some posters splashed up, and I'm sure you would draw dozens. It would be a *fiery* question and answer session, but I am confident in you!

After which I have no doubt that you would cut quite a dashing figure on the lecture circuit! Do you have anyone willing to debate you, and/or perhaps moderate?
This got me thinking: why isn't there more of a "lecture circuit" in SL?

There is, of course, the problem of timezones (something the OP may want to consider, too)... so in my case, there could well be a whole salon culture on PDT that I'd never know about--it could as well be happening in a parallel universe, for all the relevance it could have for me.

Or is this medium somehow ill-suited to such events anyway?

I used to look for lectures when I first started out. I attended a very interesting series on prejudice. I also attended some interesting art lectures, but then I got intestested in my own pursuits and haven't looked for a long time. I don't have any idea what is out there.

Sorry if I didn`t answer your question the way you would have liked.

you did actually..
see i am surrounded daily and pounded with people thinking they are being watched or someone looking in their tv's at them or seeing the whole black choppers thing..hehehe
and it is very draining..when i say everyday..i mean someone sitting next to me on their cell phone non stop calling people or talking to me about such things..
i've pretty much heard most conspiracy theories and more information on the worlds current state than a private citizen needs to know hahahaha

so your answer was a bit refreshing actually..

i mean if people want to believe all that and it fills thier time the way they want to fill it that's them..i just wish they would point the Ganda to another pipe smoker lol

myself,i like that i am somewhat off grid but because to me it is a financial smart thing to do.
I don't watch tv and get all caught up in all the hype and clutter..
there is just too much of it taking our minds off of what is truly important..

so explaining that it is more about tuning into yourself really did answer my question..

the reason i did ask the big brother question was because the movie itself leads to that..
but it doesn't mean the movement would..
thank you for clearing up that it doesn't follow the movie to the letter..
i may just have to look at the forums now to get a feel..
i wish you luck in SL with your group you setup orhave set up :)

Really, you should. Well, typed, if not spoken. (Hey. Now that we have this Voice thing, shouldn't there be, like, *speakers* 'n' stuff? I mean, we don't even need a stream anymore.)

Maybe it's too much work, putting together a half hour or so of interesting monologue. But honestly, I'd get as much enjoyment listening to somebody reading short fiction aloud as I do from 90% of live music in world.

Actually, now that I think about it, I know the Chelsea Hotel held a poetry reading recently. Maybe I just need to find and plug in to the right circles.

We've had people come to Caledon to speak about various things, like e-justice or whatnot with sizeable question and answer sessions.

Our theatre's open, and if anyone wants to speak on any topic in the grand tradition of the lecture circuit in fiery 19th century style, the floor is yours! I can just about ensure a roiling, contentious audience and great publicity!

Though it would be a bit ironic, if someone from the Zeitgeist movement were to set out a tip jar, as is often done by presenters...

I think there's a regular fiction reading in Caledon or Steelhead or one of those steampunk estates.

At some point a tip jar spreading the wealth would be a 'sploder' or something. laughs

Yah, we got that too, you'll find it in Caledon, Winterfell, Steelhead, and I'm pretty sure Babbage and New Toulouse also (if not yet, just a matter of time). The Caledon Library and its international counterpart the Alexandria Library are deep into this sort of thing, and *good* at it.

Radio Riel does a *lot* of informed events, with streamed readings, musical explorations (damn I am so bummed I missed the klezmer night!) and so forth.

It's tough, I try to restrain myself, but even if you discounted Caledon utterly for a moment the 19th century 'grid', as it were, has some of the most incredible content you've never seen. It ties in nicely in a sort of 'in person performance' sort of way.

Which is why I thought it would be so cool if Nonconformist did something. Independent thought thrives on controversy.

I better shut up now, because if I carry on much longer it will start to blend over from "personal infectious enthusiasm" to "pwning thread with Caledon meme" more than it already has. Which isn't cool. As such, I shall refrain from any more Caledon talk in this thread before it becomes "all about me."

someone mentioned not knowing where to find lectures.... there are MANY in sl every day. most are listed in events under discussion, but some are not listed at all. there are universities with rich content in sl, metanomics has some interesting programs weekly and many many sims that offer all sorts of educational content. i know on etopia we offer all kinds of things and most are listed in events, but the best way to learn about these types of things are to join the groups who host them so you will always get the info.
