One might note that advanced physics are used most notably in DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball. ;) If soft body simulation was implemented, it would see instant adaption in the porn industry.

Predicting the uses of technology is tricky, until you actually do it, and get to say how obvious all those things were in hindsight. We wouldn't have online shopping without public key encryption, which is still pretty obscure, even today.

Pornography tends to be on the very atomic wavelength bleeding edge of technology, as it always has been. It's interesting that the in-game sex industry has even evolved to the degree it has today with the very limited resources available.

And your gonna need these advanced bottom jiggling animations - BECUASE YOU BROKE THE RULES

and need spanked now.

Well aside from Colette's very correct assertion, you are correct, it would be adopted by the pron industry. However as you correctly point out, the sex industry in second life has flourished and the driving/flying/blow things up indutry has diminished. Advanced physics are not essential to the sex industry, but with so much competition in the gameing world, they are essential to the simulations industry.

I have a question re: selling.
Actually it's a couple questions all related.

First,
I would like to allow certain people (temporarily) to be able to
sell their stuff on my land. How can I do this?

I was told that I could just give them permission through a "group"
but I'm not sure how to do this. Is it to do with the Abilities and Roles
and which ones am I supposed to grant to allow them to do this without
editing anything else? And after a certain period they couldn't do it anymore.

Second
If I give them permission to move or edit specific prims that I have
created will that affect who gets the money? (As I said I want them
to get the money they deserve. I'm simply allowing them someplace
to sell it for a short period.) Or will THEY have to create the prims
themselves in order for the payment to go to the right person?

Third
I know there are "rental" type scripts out there that can sorta control
this type of "access" but I didn't think this was necessary. After all they
aren't really renting a piece of my land, more like spots on my wall
and floor. And it wouldn't be just one prim but a few.
Do I need some type of script that allows my prims to be
modified so that they can receive the payment (and still be able to
edit certain objects)? Like a vending script? or a comission script
set to give them 100%?

Thanks
Jaden

Most typically you rent them a space, and they put up the prims from which items are sold. All you have to do is allow them permission to put objects up on the land. you can then deny this permission when the time comes. Its not automatic though, nor would you want it to be. You must manage property yourself, they don't make bots to do it for you.

Help with Land Credits
04-12-2007 15:52
I really need help. I go brain dead every time I try to figure this one out.

I gave my group 6368sq of land to my group

I just bought another 2048sq. I want to donate another 1024sq, but it tells me I don't have enough land credits. Believe me I have searched and tried to figure this one out and I can't.

My tier right now is $40.00 a month.

Now I have a Partner in the group and he wants to donate 1024sq. If he does, will that increase our monthly tier?

I really hope you can shed some light

We haven't heard from you since 8th March (or so) and we are missing your wisdom.
Emperor, have you forsaken us?

Position Glitch ...

Hello all .... I was wondering what could this little glitch be...

I click on an item and go to edit and get prepared to move it, but alas I can only move them sideways and/or diagonally. I tp to a different sim, and everything works fine. It is only the sim I am on that is messed up and it makes building very hard.

Can anyone tell me what is going on and anyway to fix it?

I figure I am a resident and I give answers, sometimes even the right answers. So the Resident Answers thread is perfect for me.

However some new ground rules: your questions should be grounded in second life. this does not mean every request needs to be a technical or how to question, but it should some how touch and concern issues within second life or its various communities.

second life is big enough, and diverse enought, that nreally this should not be much of an obstacle. We do many things in our SL community, most of which are only indirectly related to the user interface, but remember if you have a question, the so does somone else.

Second, ask questions. I will allow any amount of ranting in any post as long as it ultimately contains a question. Posts without questions will incurr consequences, this might mean being spanked, and it might mean being ignored.

With out further ado or gilding the lilly, lets go on to your SL questions.
hi jake - fingers crossed u can help!
i have a particle problem: red/blue/purple and occasionally green 'skirts' flare off objects including my av. i have had the problem for about 6 weeks. its not limited to my parcels. i have done the following to trouble shoot: new skin/new shape/reinstalled sl/updated graphics drivers [gforce 7600 new 3 months ago]/rebaked textures. highlight invisible is off/particle count set to 250 but was set at 4060 for months without prob/piccys available in world if u contact me for them!
i now have to disable particles under view/beacon each time i log on. im sure i have done other trouble shooting but i cant remember now. i have asked for help in dreamland chat and from master scripters
:( u are my last hope!

Why did my boot detach itself from my foot and insert itself in my arse earlier today?

That's what they all say. "It happened by itself doc, I swear! I slipped and fell after teleporting. And the gerbil was inside the boot at that time!"

That is SO WRONG!!!!!!!!!!

*However, a friend of mine is an ER Nurse in The City and she has told me some horrifying and very funny stories of a similar nature. One involved a peanut butter jar.*

You have updates enabled - go into the debug menu and see what you have ticked.

Why am I always on my knees when I log on. This has been going on for weeks. I was standing in a normal position when I logged off before this happened.. Went back and sat on what I thought might have been the offending pose ball, sat on something close by. The only thing that gets me off my knees is to turn off ao.. Then the next time I log in, it starts all over again. Yes I looked to see if somehow I am wearing the offending position and am not.

This is quite embarrassing. Any ideas?

If turning off the AO fixes the problem, then first look at the AO to see what animation it is using for stands (I presume those would be the pertinent ones).

The universe has an apporximate volume of 4/3 π R3 = 4.0×1032 cubic light-years. If SL is the metaverse, and thus a virtual reflection of the universe, it means that even with open sourcing the grid has huge scaling problems. Other than that, well the universe is unfathomable, but the meta verse is what you make of it.

But Jake, isn't the SL universe basically two dimensional? When viewed from a distance, the Earth is a perfectly smooth sphere, including the Mid-Atlantic trench and Mt. Everett. Using the same scale, SL is two dimensional, since we can really only feasibly orbit out to 20,000 meters or so, and can't really go underground at all. Therefore, how can SL reflect the RL universe?

Besides, TP'ing such a short distance such as in SL, can you imagine the hassle of trying to TP a few light years away?? OY!!! :D

On the same topic, would it be really difficult for LL to create a brand new GRID (not just continents) and call it Mars, and make it all red and dusty and stuff?

LOL!

I mean a really truly new "planet" that we could TP to... switch from grid to grid, maybe? Or is that technically impossible?
