I figure I am a resident and I give answers, sometimes even the right answers. So the Resident Answers thread is perfect for me.

However some new ground rules: your questions should be grounded in second life. this does not mean every request needs to be a technical or how to question, but it should some how touch and concern issues within second life or its various communities.

second life is big enough, and diverse enought, that nreally this should not be much of an obstacle. We do many things in our SL community, most of which are only indirectly related to the user interface, but remember if you have a question, the so does somone else.

Second, ask questions. I will allow any amount of ranting in any post as long as it ultimately contains a question. Posts without questions will incurr consequences, this might mean being spanked, and it might mean being ignored.

With out further ado or gilding the lilly, lets go on to your SL questions.

How do you think the planned open sourcing of servers will affect LL's land based business model as more and more people begin hosting their own servers? And what other revenue streams will LL develop?

Well I think the land based business model is Doomed. Mitch Kapor as much as said so. It makes utterly no sense to peddle land when anyone can make it. I think LL will be radically redeveloping its model.

Frankly I think LL will want to streamline purely inot a development leader, and spin off the administration duties entirely. I think LL will continue realizing a profit developing new technologies to imprve the core platform. I do not know what exten they will retain the land busness they have once open sourcing hits it big. I would expect land to devalue.

On the Economy Stats page, why are stipends listed as both a source and a sink?

Aside from Emporer, who is Jake Reitveld? And is he (you) the new Linden Answers?
