You really need to be careful about statements like this. I could see Ann using this as further proof in her lawsuit.

:D

Yes, and Des especially. Isn't he alredy in the line up for one of Laurin's baby daddies?

Bingo Argent.

This is a horse tail. The construction of the horse tail in the pic below from your post is completely different from that of a cat.

The link from XStreet shoes a "macho utility cat tail" which is different.

I do see cat tails but people are using horse tails. It's very confusing and does not serve to define their catness or machismo (if that's why they needed to get it). Unlike the avatar ear issue this is strictly by choice.

Isn't this the World where people can fly? Where pixies flit and Dragons roar? If Neko tails come thin, fat, color change, particle emitting it's just someone's Imagination and Creativity at work, n'est pas? Is there some sort of Neko Code of Clothing and Accessories missing in the Wiki? I say, be who you want to be. Sometimes a ferret is just a ferret ;)

IDK, but I’m laughing my ass off.

I must not be getting the joke, either. It just seems like a very Pep-ish post to me.

Well sometimes it might depend on the lineage...

I suspect a lot of neko's don't have breeder's papers, and are just love kitten byproducts of some star~crossed moment in a back alley somewhere.

Memories... all alone in the mooooonlight...

I have heard a rumor about you and some cute kitten ;)

I always felt there was something disturbing me about those kitties with their odd tails, and I couldn't put my finger on it.

And you all know what 'they' say about kitties with pony-tails and no ears? (Something I can't repeat in a pg forum, so I'll just leave an insinuation instead, and hope someone else with fewer scruples explains it.)

Most of the Nekos have horse tails?

Not cat tails. Not fox tails. They're horse tails.

Because they're cuter and more noticeable? And it's trendy too.
I have lots of the thicker fluffy tails, and they're really cute when paired with the right ears. I have some slim tails too and they're hardly noticeable when wearing a dark outfit. It looks like a thin string is hanging loose. Since SL is incapable of providing a realistic look to anything, the designer's best bet is to make something at least noticeable and doesn't look like a misplaced prim.

Making fluffy kitty tails aint easy:

/me laughs very loud.

Best response yet. Thank you.

The origins of the neko is Japanese. In fact, apart from "frazzled neko", I do not recall fluffy or horse tail type tails in Pop Japan styling be it Ero games, doujinshi, manga, anime etc. That is not to say they do not exist, but for the life of me I cannot recall.

I do believe that the entire neko concept has headed off into a completely different direction within SL, one that contravenes its roots. Regardless, it's an... interesting transition.

Personally, I am a little old fashioned and prefer pop culture neko as the Japanese intended. /me grins

But... different strokes for different folks.

Brann pointed out the difference in where the hairs attach and I imagine this plays a large role in what gets created. A true kitty tail will take more work because the hairs attach all along the tail rather than all in pretty much one spot like the horse's tail.

It's not just a matter of more work - a lot of folk really want the kind of motion that flexi prims impart to a tail, and you can't attach other prims to flexi prims, so a tail made of flexis pretty much needs to just attach at the base only. Which is why a flexi tail is gonna look a little like a horse's tail, no matter how cunningly it's made and textured - you just *can't* get fur attached to the length of the tail like a true cat tail using flexiprims.

The other option - using non-flexi primwork to create a more realistic-looking tail with fur attached along its length - is pretty static. Sure, you can script it to move a bit, but it moves as a unit, not gracefully flowing and waving the way flexiprims do.

I personally think that flexiprim movement is much closer to real cat tail movement than anything else that can be scripted, and it's worth sacrificing a little bit of "realism" in the modelling to get that gently waving motion that just shouts "KITTYTAIL!" to even the most casual observer.

Neko means cat. Words are supposed to have meaning. A cat tail is a cat tail and a horse tail is a horse tail. A horse tail is not a neko tail. If someone wants to pretend that it is, that's their prerogative, but it is no more valid than claiming bat wings are bird wings or that a caterpillar is a serpent. Now if you'll excuse me I am going to log on and wear a parrot avatar and claim I am a dragon. :D

Being neko is more then throwing on a tail and ears and saying your “neko”
It’s part attitude too!

All you nekos should realize that cats do not wear clothes. I mean really! Oh, and Chris wants pictures.

That's a horse tail. And I am not sure those are kitty ears.

Actually, those are Neko ears. They are steampunk neko ears, but I do not remember the creator's name. HOWEVER, that is not the tail you purchase with the ears. The tail are glowy looking cables if I remember right.

... And, yes, it's too high... Because I bound it that way. Why don't cats have spiked, stainless steel tail binders to lift their tail up away from their legs for standing upright? =^-^=

This is a fluffy cat tail as first posted by Desmond:

The other one I reposted from Argent is a horse tail.

If you're a neko you're not a horsecat mutation. You're a cat mutation.

If someone wants to reeinvent themselves that's fine. It's a healthy pursuit in SL to be unique. But some people are clinging to labels which don't define them, perhaps in an effort to redefine the label.

It won't work here because Neko means cat. It isn't a made up word of any sort. Neko doesnt mean "I wander around with any twitchy pointed ears and tail to look cool."
