Yay for you that no one responds to something you've wrote in a negative fashion in world. Yippe, hooray! Yes, that was sarcasm. Your mileage may vary, but it does not make such a reason invalid. Guess what? I have NOT said that Avatars are not run by real people. read the post again Coco, you missed it or skipped that part on purpose. Let me put this in caps so that you can see it (yes, I'm in a foul mood as is, deal with it - I have no patience left): YOUR. AVATAR. IS. NOT. YOU. IT. IS. NOT. AN. EXTENSION. OF. YOURSELF. IT. IS. NOT. REAL. and another one for you, since you seem to cling to this mistaken belief of yours: IT DOES NOT MATTER WHO HAS WRITTEN THE MESSAGE, IF THEY HAVE A REASON FOR USING AN ALT - LEAVE IT THE HELL ALONE AND FOCUS ON THE MESSAGE, NOT THE MESSENGER. It is the person who places a value on the name of a mass of PIXELS and COMPUTER DATA who has no self worth. As I said, go back and reread the post: Do so until you cease seeing what is not there and can actually respond with something other than utter BS. It does matter who has written a message and the messenger is just as important as the message. The ONLY REASON for using an alt to post an attack is because the person using the alt is a coward. They don't want to face up to the consequences of what they have written. Yes, these names are just pixels and computer data. But in interacting with others we do build reputations. Those pixels and computer data are how we recognize one another when we do relate. The ONLY REASON for using an alt to post an attack is because the person using the alt is a coward. They don't want to face up to the consequences of what they have written. _____________________

hopefully next time its a permaban Says the landbot that made a living by ripping off people that made mistakes listing there land. You'll notice that the people who have the biggest issues with me in Second Life are people that rip off residents, and ad farmers because I was so against both issues. Good thing I never wanted approval from people like that. |

Or perhaps he knows that some people would choose to drop his business simply because he happens to support one particular side of this issue. Or that some people would interpret that support, unfairly, as a reason to badmouth him, discourage customers, or whatever. You're speculating on another person's motives. Whether the speculation is correct or well-founded isn't relevant. By labeling him as "cowardly", you're making an ad hominem attack. Neither of these is a legitimate argument. So his opinion isn't worth enough to him to stand up for it? Even if it means loss? Calling him a coward is calling a spade a spade. But the truth hurts. The messenger is just as important as the message. Hiding behind an alt to express an unpopular opinion shows a lack of integrity. _____________________

Most wars are started over scarce resources. Honor and courage are what make us civilized. Um, no. 'Honor' and 'courage' may separate us from the beasts to a degree, but they do NOT make us 'civilized'. 'Honor' starts quite a few wars: 'courage' used as an excuse by many to throw their lives away. Yep, some good has come of this, but don't pretend that such concepts make us 'civilized'. If we were truly 'civilized' ... well now, we wouldn't have many wars now would we? _____________________

Others need signed contracts. A man with honor will stand by his words, for good or ill. Others will sneak and sulk in the shadows casting their barbs out at their betters. Without honor you can not have integrity. Without honor you can not be trusted. Tell us Solar, if your word is no good, why should anyone trust you? If you won't do what you say when you say it, how can you be civilized? Do you have nothing you would sacrifice your life to defend? No principles you hold dear? _____________________

Do you have nothing you would sacrifice your life to defend? No principles you hold dear? -yawns- Let me see, my friends and family. That's it. As far as a person's word or actions as you have described them are concerned .... that is not 'honor' Chris. Go and study the way Honor has been seen over the centuries and you will see the sort I am talking about. 'Honor' can start a duel, it can start an argument, a fist fight, a war. 'Courage' of the same sort walks hand in hand with 'Honor', allowing someone to be essentially browbeat into these situations. I personally do not like the current use of Honor and Courage: nor have I ever liked the historical type either. Trust .... is just that. it is based on Reputation and other factors. even in more modern times, the very concept of Honor has sparked Wars. even the most current war .... on a TACTIC of war no less! If you wish to speak of 'Honor' and 'Courage', do so in a more relevant setting. At the end of the day, these words you read are coming from a source that you really do not know. The Internet is the ultimate tool for anonymity: There is no way short of a web cam to know who is really on the other side. even then, you have no way of knowing if they are showing their true face to you. for the vast majority of people using the internet, the concepts you hold so dear do not apply. As I have said: It is more the message that should be looked at in a place like this: Not the Messenger. Just because a person decides to use a different name, possibly to avoid dealing with the backlash (I have done this myself - I have enough stress and drama off line) ... well, to be blunt, this does not invalidate their opinion. There are more important things in this world than the Honor of an individual or even a country. _____________________

Something you should know by the by Argent: when I use my alt, my entire typing style undergoes a change. This is one of the ways to make it so that a person cannot easily guess who I am. I do have plenty of people that harass me as is ... I don't need any more of them. So I'm completely not getting why, if in your mind YOUR. AVATAR. IS. NOT. YOU. IT. IS. NOT. AN. EXTENSION. OF. YOURSELF. IT. IS. NOT. REAL. Why do you feel the emotional need to protect yourself behind an alt? Why do you purposely and consciously alter your "personality" to protect your human from harassment? If your avatar weren't an extension of yourself, you shouldn't need any such protection, huh? Your avatar should be made of steel and nothing that was said to it or done to it should matter. But to you it obviously must, or you wouldn't feel the need for the alt, right? Help me understand. _____________________

The ones who had to suffer through your constant attempts to destroy their business. The ones who got tired of your underhand, scheming attempts to protect your own ass and save your antiquated business model at the expense of others. _____________________

![]() A farmer was riding in his wagon, with his dog at his side. He began to hit the horse to make it go faster. The horse stopped in it's tracks, turned to the farmer and said "Don't hit me". Stunned, the farmer said aloud "I didn't know a horse could talk". "Neither did I." said the dog. |

We discussed it at length and it isn't a good idea. But I feel it was the equivalent of being rude to a customer service rep at any service provider, which is all SL really is. If you were to be verbally abusive to the person on the phone of your cable company, thehave the right to ignore you, and hang up on you, they do not have to take abuse. But they would never suspend your service as long as it was paid up. This was an overreaction in my opinion, especially since it was directed at the company in general, not a specific Linden. Fortunately, it was worked out, and little harm was done. Yeah that's true in a world where actual common sense rules the way humans behave Brenda. Instead usually emotions & "programming" decide peoples reactions. Before I even got time to sign up for SL, I worked for an ISP start-up here in Chicago as the Tech Support Regional Supervisor, and the attitude was very similar to LL, towards customers. ...sometimes I sympathize with certain employees for this reason, having seen it as a worker in a company where the top echelon ain't exactly business "geniuses", and the workers knew more about how to fix problems than them...but we weren't allowed to implement most of our ideas, which the CEO told me in retrospect (I was the final payroll employee when they went under) was "completely irresposible". If a customer said "FU (our company)" in a conference...unless they paid so much monthly that they were literally keeping us from going under, the company probably would have cancelled the account, and never let the customer sign up again. LL is still a company... this is thier business, this forum, the Grid... "right" and "wrong" have a miniscule (more like microscopic) place in business. I guess I could have save a lot of typing by just saying, "look at the world we live in, what do you expect?". Given the fact that I haven't watched TV since around the time Bush was first elected 8 years ago, maybe I see things different. Why folks expect common courtesy or any decent treatment whatsoever these days is beyond me. _____________________

So I'm completely not getting why, if in your mind YOUR. AVATAR. IS. NOT. YOU. IT. IS. NOT. AN. EXTENSION. OF. YOURSELF. IT. IS. NOT. REAL. But to you it obviously must, or you wouldn't feel the need for the alt, right? Help me understand. Pie dear ... it's simple enough to 'understand' if you bothered to read a few other posts. A simple concept: I have enough drama off line. I do not need some little nit reading something I have written and getting it into their head to harass me when I log in to check my messages or mail. Oh yes: There are also times I simply do not want to be bothered. Ever had someone IM you the very second you log into a service? I have quite a few of those types. There are days where I'll respond, and then there are days I don't want to deal with them. That has nothing at all to do with my statement either. Now then: Are you done being so dense as to assume what was not said? _____________________

When you talk to someone on the telephone do you act as if who they are doesn't matter because the telephone mouthpiece isn't them? Because the telephone is just a mass of metal and plastic? Irrelevant, the telephone does not create a false, visual image that vanishes after you hang up the phone. A video phone shows the person on the other end as they are at that moment and is also, irrelevant. Well, actually, it does. Look up "sock puppet" and "astroturfing". And your point is ... ? Welcome to the Internet Argent: Shit happens. _____________________
