How could they have traditions in the USA, it's barely 200 years old!

Hey, we have traditions!

- Drive-by shootings
- Car jacking
- Home invasion robberies
- Wall Street Ponzi Schemes

Oh, come on! Most traditions in England were invented for the TV.

Pep (How would anyone know about them otherwise?)

Oh, in England it is traditional for the Best Man's Speech to be a farrago of lies anyway.

Pep (with some truths thrown in that his friends snigger knowingly at)

Brilliant!!

What is it with people who think we're here to be quizzed like (ok, unusually articulate) lab rats?

Krissakes, sign up and take a feckin look fer yasself.

A special 'Ignore' option should be introduced for surveys on 'behaviour' in virtual worlds.

Pep!?

For almost 2 years I have read this forum and enjoyed it for the most part and I've participated from time to time. I know most of you don't know me at all, so I expect a bit of flaming back. I can take it. It's people who don't know you that I worry about.

I am disappointed that not a single one of you with the exception of one person has been kind or helpful to someone coming to us for help. So what if he's a researcher? So what that others have asked before him? Bunni came to us with a survey earlier today and it was accepted without question. Is this an exclusive club for the "regulars"? All you guys are doing is trying to one-up each other. Why not help the guy for pete's sake?

Many of you harp about the impression outsiders have of SL... but what are you doing to change that image? Instead you hurl insults and give ridiculous and offensive answers.

Only Jig ended up with anything useful to say. Jig very likely questioned credentials and got some answers. I would have a few other questions for the OP, but I'd imagine he's sick of the lot of us by now.

Seriously?

We'd probably feel a whole lot more helpful and a whole lot less jaded if we weren't being looked upon and treated like some sort of science experiment at every turn of the corner.

And then, there was a certain professor who shall remain nameless who severely devastated any chance at us taking social surveys seriously a few years ago...

I'm not sure about you, but I don't want to find myself quoted in the Sunday Papers about my deviancy, by a reporter masquerading as a researcher.

Pep if you were to be quoted in some paper it would only be via your SL name unless they were able to learn who you really are.

How is that the OP's fault? Judge people on their own merits or lack thereof.

That is one thing the OP would need to make clear. Just how is he guaranteeing anonymity. This a legitimate question. I know that there are strict ethical guidelines in dealing with a sample group for research. He'd need to address that before I would participate.

No-one is anonymous nowadays.

Pep (One friend found my rl address using just one piece of extra info I gave her)

PS "Reader, I married her"

Perhaps. But when you look like a duck and quack like a duck, people are going to judge you to be a duck.

I gave him a perfectly serious and absolutely straight answer to the questions he asked, without any insults or deception.
