For almost 2 years I have read this forum and enjoyed it for the most part and I've participated from time to time. I know most of you don't know me at all, so I expect a bit of flaming back. I can take it. It's people who don't know you that I worry about.

I am disappointed that not a single one of you with the exception of one person has been kind or helpful to someone coming to us for help. So what if he's a researcher? So what that others have asked before him? Bunni came to us with a survey earlier today and it was accepted without question. Is this an exclusive club for the "regulars"? All you guys are doing is trying to one-up each other. Why not help the guy for pete's sake?

Many of you harp about the impression outsiders have of SL... but what are you doing to change that image? Instead you hurl insults and give ridiculous and offensive answers.

Only Jig ended up with anything useful to say. Jig very likely questioned credentials and got some answers. I would have a few other questions for the OP, but I'd imagine he's sick of the lot of us by now.

Thank you very much! It means lots to me (not just as a researcher).

And how's he going to do that?

Pep (Naive? Me?)

well now I don't know. But coming out with all guns blazing isn't getting the question answered.

Rosser, can you guarantee anonymity?

Pep, all you have to do is to not participate. But drop-kicking the guy and everybody pilling on isn't exactly fair is it?

You forgot a new tradition: elect Messiah's as President

I was gonna fix that for you, but it'd just get really ugly.

OMG, I would LOVE to read this "research" paper. In less than eleven pages, we've managed to fulfill the fantasy of every SL researcher's wildest wet dreams. We've raced around on our squeaky wheels, occasionally smudging the glass with our furry moist noses. So, while we may all be deviant lab rats (hey, 'fess up...we KNOW you!), we are damn FUNNY deviant lab rats. (I do love whiskers, don't you?)

Pep if you were to be quoted in some paper it would only be via your SL name unless they were able to learn who you really are.

No I will not quote your SL name. It will be a random code. :)

I know, I expect this :(. But I did spend time to make sure that this is a good one that
gives people room to express their views about their community. Well, thank for replying anyway.

It was expected.

Hi, do not judge me before you get to know what I am doing.
Actually, my theoretical position is:

SL NOT deviant!

Well I guess I have upset a few people here. You are not happy when others think SL is inherently deviant. However, you are not willing to defend it when approached for your opinions. I did not judge you. But your answers... Well, such as life, be it 1st or 2nd.

OK, I've read a web page for which I have no knowledge about the protocols for creation and publication, which is ephemeral and has no validation.

Pep (So how was it you were guaranteeing anonymity?)

However, I know Brenda will be around to fix this soon lol

You can quote my SL name, but only as an attribution to my clitoris/clamp comment. You should use it - it's knowledge gold!

Seriously?

We'd probably feel a whole lot more helpful and a whole lot less jaded if we weren't being looked upon and treated like some sort of science experiment at every turn of the corner.

And then, there was a certain professor who shall remain nameless who severely devastated any chance at us taking social surveys seriously a few years ago...

If there was a 'certain professor' who had violated his ethical codes as a researcher, he
needs to be reported to his university. There are ethics committees in every university dealing with...

Just to let you know.

@Marin - it might have been met with better results if it had not been about deviant behavior in SL.

Do you really realize how sick most of us are of that train of thought.

Surveys are bad enough, but there is just too much of the "omg, sl is about nothing but sex and deviants".

Yes, a researcher from UK was expelled from his university a couple of years ago (North UK).
If you are interested.

For example, one of you suggested that I could have pretend a be one of you and use information obtained in my research. But I could not, I have to reveal my identity as a researcher. And IF I get abuse... tough luck for me. You can send me an IM about the person if you want. People like him give researchers a bad name.

Against ToS.

Pep (then you might get "expelled" from SL)
