I know, I expect this :(. But I did spend time to make sure that this is a good one that
gives people room to express their views about their community. Well, thank for replying anyway.

It's getting there. I suggest you enter the sl world. Spend some time looking around. Investigate in-world rather than rely on us (we are all deviants here) and see for yourself. I would still like to know who is sponsoring your research.

You have trodden on a minefield of comments simply because we are surveyed everyday by some "academic" who can't be bothered to step outside and ask passers-by the same questions.

Some of us ARE academics and some of us have a healthy disregard for academia and the poseurs who claim academic qualificatons and qualities.

Be gentle with us, stranger. We are aliens from another planet and are not willing to be violated.

Hi, this is the last stage of the research. I have been in SL and observing for a while...

I agree - join SL and immerse yourself in it for 6 months - that way you will find out for yourself what SL is like. In SL there's good, bad and ugly - and that's just the houses!

One of the biggest issues for me and a lot of other people in Second Life is ugly and clumsy building. People can build more or less what they like and not every resident is, shall we say, a born architect!

Oh, I had been observing in SL. Did not really participate because if you think I am another resident and tell me things and I then use for academic work. That will be really unethical.
So, I did not wish to be contacted in SL. Will contact you in SL if you want since you know I am a researcher already :)

I have been in SL for more than 6 month (check my birthday)! But my findings and experiences are inevitably influenced by my own perceptions. I want to know what do you think :)

Hmm - in the grand scheme of things, I am not sure that really qualifies as "observing for a while"

Pep, calling Pep (our resident grammar expert) -- Does "less than a month" in world qualify as "observing for a while"?

The Molotov Alva videos will give a good and humourous insight into the SL psyche and covers many of the stereotypical behaviours! They are brilliant.

Yeah, we need to check SL date, not Forum join date.

1. Some people suggest that Second Life encourages deviant activities. Do you feel your behaviour is less inhibited in Second Life than the physical world?
Oh yes, in real life I have to force myself to visit the dentist... let alone undergo elective surgery. In SL I change my species multiple times in the course of a simple conversation.
From: someone
2. Some people suggest that Second Life mirrors the physical world. Is your experience of Second Life remote from, or close to, the physical world in which you reside?
Second life is EXACTLY like the physical world, as described in the science fiction of Greg Egan, Charlie Stross, Vernor Vinge, John Ringo, Iain M. Banks, and other people who have depicted a society on the cusp of the technological singularity. Unfortunately, I don't expect to live long enough to see that happen in this physical world, and I'm dubious of the possibility that this world is a Tiplerian resimulation of the 21st century.
From: someone
3. There is 3D avatar creation technology in Second Life, do you want an avatar that closely resembles you, or realises some new desired image?
If I could turn into a 40" tall ferret-guy in less than 30 seconds in real life, I wouldn't need Second Life.
From: someone
4. In the communities of Second Life, there are various norms and rules, how do they shape your views about deviant activities?
Second Life has made me considerably less accepting of deviant behavior such as spamming, displaying grossly inappropriate affect, and calling me on the telephone at 5AM.

Rosser - I'll do your survey if you do mine first. You may notice certain similarities to your original questions, but they are just as valid, and I have corrected some poor punctuation.

1. Some people suggest that Swansea University encourages deviant activities. Do you feel your behaviour is less inhibited in Swansea University than the real world?

2. Some people suggest that Swansea University mirrors the real world. Is your experience of Swansea University remote from, or close to, the real world in which you reside outside term-time?

3. There is 3D avatar creation technology in Swansea University (if you are not sure what this is, sign up for Sex Ed 101); do you want a child that closely resembles you, or looks more like their mother?

4. In the communities of Swansea University, there are various norms and rules, how do they shape your views about deviant activities?

Please illuminate your answers by reference to time you have spent romancing the sheep on the greens of Clyne Golf Club, being turned over by the Rank slags, perving with binoculars on Rhossili beach, having your stomach pumped to remove remnants of Felinfoel Double Dragon early on a Sunday morning, and generally carrying out the activities of the Progressive Hedonists University Club, assuming it is still going.
