Why is it that every thesis paper or study is being done on SL? What's so amazing about SL?

Your full disclosure will hinder you. If you had pretended to be just another resident, and surreptitiously started threads with your questions after gaining our trust, you might have got serious answers. As it is, and as a researcher, you should research what happens to survey type threads here.

well, I do not think that is ethical. I just want people to say what they think really, even if they abuse me. I think it is better being honest.

From what i hear, getting a Prince Albert isn't nearly as painful in SL compared to if you get one in RL

I once had a boyfriend who wanted one and a pal of his offered to do it for free so he got drunk and they both had a go. It was hilariously funny and proved that it is extremely painful in real. I was 16 at the time and I was helpless with laughter.

There must be something if it is attracting all those deviants.

Anyone who actually knows this topic will tell you that "deviant" behavior is actually just behavior that people don't discuss in public. "Normal" people engage in all sorts of things that might be considered "deviant" -- as many previous studies have shown. It's only "deviant" if it's something you yourself don't do.

Shorter answer:  somebody is looking for wank material.

I really do not think so. So, I am here to listen to what you have got to say :)

Good God... Is it Friday already???

Methinks this researcher should have researched the fact that we eat researchers and their research for breakfast!

But, I suppose that could be classed as deviant behavior. :p

I also wonder if the OP's name is really Rosser Writer. Seems unlikely.

Um, OP, you mentioned something about ethics and honesty?

I will repeat my question once more because it is extremelly important that you divulge the department that you "research" for. Once again, what department at Swansea Univesrity do you work for? Who has sponsored this study?

Hi there :-),

I am a researcher from Swansea University, United Kingdom. I am doing research about behaviour in Second Life, in particular, about things that might be considered as 'deviant'. In this research, deviant behaviours are those that break some social norms and rules. I am interested in all sorts of behaviour, which could be seen as deviant.

There are many misunderstandings and misinterpretations of Second Life in its personal and professional uses. The purpose of this research is to ask residents about your experiences of and opinions about Second Life as a community and activities you see and experience within this community. [QUOTE

Okay. Okay, seriously. Now what is in it for us? Why should we do YOUR work for you? Where will you publish your findings? What are the parameters? Who is funding this study? Why?

"Researcher from Swansea University" is far too general a job description. Are you involved in sociology, criminology, business, humanities, computer studies?

How is it going to improve our sl (and real) lives. Obviously YOU will benefit but we aren't guinea pigs and our "deviancy" (should there be any) is no more shocking than an episode of Torchwood. Explain yourself more generously. But remember we are many people spread over the world - real people - NOT a nameless survey group.

Exactly! You are not a nameless survey group! I do not know what is deviant in SL. I do not assume SL has the same standards as RL. Well, SL was created to be different from RL? I am from the school of human sciences. The aim of this research is to find out what is deviant in SL. Lots of people associate deviance with extreme sexual behaviours but I do not! Deviant = different from the norms
But I do not know what are the norms in SL. SO this research is to find that out! OKay answer? :)

Ohhhh! You wanted abuse! Well, why didn't you say so? That's in the room across the hall!

/me loves a little Monty Python :)
