Forum Hangout Land Purchased!

In SL builds - like in software development - there is an inherent trade off between perfection and timeliness. I suggest that we err on the of timeliness.

For example, while Annabelle and I are working on the ideal garden (or at least the first iteration) I had thrown down a conversation circle because it was easy and could be done today. Will it be replaced? Of course. Is it better than barren terrain? I think so. Is it particularly attractive? Nope.

Here are things that I suggest happen as soon as practicable.

1. Formation of a invitation only builders group to include the designated builders and possibly "house managers".

2. A rough partitioning of the parcel into functional areas. So far I believe these to be: A) Roadhouse B) Garden C) Open playspace.

3. A drop/take box on the parcel for communication via notecards for items too lengthy or boring for Group Announcements or this forum. I also suggest that people put logs of any significant planning discussions in this box for all FC members to read; I'm a big fan of "sunshine principle" management.

4. Creation of first structures. As noted above, I have placed an 8 prim junk garden of conversation. Similarly I recommend that Chris take a copy of his Saloon and plunk it down tomorrow whilst further planning and design take place.

i dunno wut builds have been made so far, but i was hoping to lend something quite themed and fun. It is prim heavy, and might not fit on the parcel even. i'll show it off to someone on my own land on Friday, and then see where it goes from there.

if you need some textures or just basic builds, i have some original stuff that's not too shabby. i don't sell it, it's just stuff i craeted everytime i got bored with my land. in fact.... on a big change yet again.

Wilhelm, The speed boat rezzer sounds great. I hope we have enough funds left over to get a hang glider rezzer as well.

It's going to be great fun. As you did when you trusted Oryx, myself and Sarah to handle the land purchase, I hope everyone can allow Malachi and his team to handle the landscaping and Chris et al to take care of the building. Please give them space to work and faith that they have the group's best interest in mind.

It is not going to turn out exactly as you envision it. That is part of what makes it exciting (like seeing Ashe1's pie sign stuck to the tree).

For those who feel like they might have control issues related to the project and are not getting your way with things, I suggest you upgrade to premium, get yourself a nice plot of land and start rezzing. The size of the plot should be determined by how much control you need. Personally, I needed a full sim's worth.

i have a hot air balloon that i can't make work properly, that i'll donate to the mission. i dunno where we'd store it tho.

There will be a meeting on the parcel at 9pm SLT to discuss the matters that need timely discussion. I believe that everyone who needs to be there has been informed and has confirmed their availability.

In the spirit of openness, cartel members are welcome to attend, but in the interest of brevity I request that attendees reserve comments and questions until afterwards. Put more bluntly, we welcome anyone who wishes to listen but the floor is *not* open and we'll go hide somewhere if that cannot be respected.

We are grateful to all who have contributed time, tier, thoughts, and lindens to our "stone soup" project and wish to return the goodwill by being as open as practical.

ok - Cliff Notes:

First. This is all someone else's fault.

It was suggested (note use of passive voice so I don't have to take responsibility) that it would be cool to have a forum hangout, sort of a roadhouse bar where we could just drop by whenever we felt like it and hang with whomever else was there. This wouldn't take away from the other forum get togethers like the recent parties at Cherry's, etc. It would just be a place to relax and meet up when nothing else was going on.

The plan had legs and somehow Oryx (totally innocent) and I (allegedly guilty, but maintaining his innocence OJ-style) were nominated to coordinate the thing. Chris and Brenda allowed use of the Forum Cartel Group, people donated tier and cash, Raymond and Sarah Nerd were incredibly generous with their help on acquiring land, and we now have a really beautiful piece of land. The builders are Chris Norse and Incanus Merlin for the structures and Malachi Petunia and Annabelle Babii for the landscaping. The plan has grown substantially, and there is some real excitement about this project. Oryx and I are still working very hard to get everything where it needs to be and make sure that the builders are set to go. We'll keep working and bird-dog this thing through until we have something that we can all be proud of.

There's a landmark for the land in the OP in this thread. Go check it out! Apparently there's a meeting tonight, which I didn't hear about until just now, but Oryx will be there representing the two of us. I can't be on until about an hour after that.

Does anyone know what type of plant life i.e is it going to be tropical or other type of climate theme?
I am pretty busy making textures but if you guys know what type of plant life you want let me or Dagon Grimm know and I would be willing to donate some textures. I offered to make textures for buildings.
But if no one needs me that is cool.

@Trout: Thank you for the summary! I am a member already, Ijust had my IMs and stuff capped while I was away. I just checked out the land and it looks good!

Thanks for the kind offer. Annabelle and I are working on the "chill out garden" not - at least as far as I know - general landscaping. Between the two of us I think we have or can make all the textures we'll need, but I'll keep your offer in mind.

Our current rough guess is something like Hanging Gardens of Babylon, but we'll know better after tonight.

Don't tell anyone but there has been talk about getting a bit more land (2048m. more) next door. Those who are tardy but still feeling generous can still donate tier or L$. But you didn't hear it from me. Here's how to donate to that thing I can't talk about.

8000 meters isnt enough??? Ya need 10K now??? Just remember what I said about the last two surviving members being able to maintain the tier. I dont see that happening with these kind of numbers.

I have one of the WaveLabs hangglider party rezzers that I'm not using. It was the one I bought for Nautilus Harbor, but the no-script oceans really messed with it... it didn't de-rez on dismount, so I got gliders returned from half a continent away!

Anyway I just tested it on my home land, and it works properly. It's no-copy and no-transfer so it can't be deeded to the group, but I believe I can set it to the group. The gliders will all show as owned by me, but that shouldn't be a problem if the Linden oceans by the hangout have scripting enabled (so they de-rez when someone crash lands or otherwise dismounts).

So who is in charge of approving the placement of recreational vehicle rezzers?
