My land and my house are open to all, no one ever comes

So is mine.... and enough people do visit (tells me the visitor counter :P). And that is okay... I like friendly people to come around (and I made many nice friends that way).

Rules on my land are simple... be polite, be nice. Respect clear signs... a locked door is locked for a reason and even if you can pass it very simple, anyone knows why a door is locked... it means, you are not welcome there without me allowing you so.

So in the two rooms with locked doors also a visitor counter is hidden (with a small range). So when I "found" someone there, I IM them... and how they react makes me decide ban or not. They guy with huge thing sticking out his pants found himself sticking it out somewhere outside my land (he had the bad luck I was online, the visitor counter I use sends a IM when it is triggered).

Morwen.

I just went to a pet store and there were millions of pictures of teenage mutant flying nija turtles and horrible sounds. I take it the sim was being attacked by a griefer? I teleported out of there fast.:skeered:

People wind up in my house all the time..... I can't tell you how many times I've logged in to find my menu bed is 'on' LOL I can't stand ban lines....it just looks bad, tacky....so I have a security orb which I rarely use. I've met cool people by allowing strangers to just pop in. I do have to keep it set to 'no build' and no scripts to keep the griefers at bay. And if someone is really a pest....i turn the orb on and it boots em..... or if I'm too far from it to turn it on....I get out my guns ..... usually that's all it takes. Most of the time... a stranger in my house is just some noob who doesn't know any better yet. And I'm not one to be a beyotch unless duly provoked.

So as long as I have all that stuff off, they can't do anything to me right?(scripting etc...) What does restrict object pushing do? I really want to take these ban lines down!

Really? That TMNT box "attack" is pretty much a daily occurance in Abbotts. I guess a greifer discovered there's more sims in SL than Cordova and Abbotts =^.^=

If it makes you feel better, I made a dead Kenny head last night. I'll give a free copy if you IM me in-world.

It's physical, so you can kick it around the sim. My sis and I were playing Kenny Soccer with it last night.

;) "put the stump down" LOLOL

fun, and funny!

So I think he must have been trying to shoot me with it. Do people often randomly go around trying to mess with people they don't know?

I use to rent land in a gay community and frequently found guys in my home wanting to have sex with me. They would become very upset and rude when I asked them to leave. I guess they assumed everyone in SL is here for just wanton sex with anyone. I had planned to buy an orbiter to take care of the problem but have since moved to a quiet residential thread and have no problems at all ( knocks wood).

There are a alot of kids in SL and they have been busy playing war and massacre video games, where players attack each other 24/7 and that is what they live for. SL is like the wild west compared to Warcraft which severely restricts their behaviors. When they come to SL it's all a big insecure, joke and perfect for a little PvP terrorizing.

It said something like this:
Webspinner 123.9 blahblah Webshot failed blahblah.

Thanks for checking that out. :)

Maybe you upset someone and they paid a noob to grief you :)

I don't care if I'm provoked or not. Anyone and I mean anyone who comes into my land that I don't know or have not invited is not wanted and I don't care if they've been in sl for 5 seconds and don't know any better.

I'm on my land doing whatever it is I'm doing then someone pops in, first thing I say is OUT!!!!! Get out!!!. My time for politeness is long gone nor do I want to be nice. At times before my drones eject them, I'll do it myself and with pleasure.

Some people don't mind intruders, I hate them and I'll orbit them each and every time. I don't want excuses, you're where you're not suppose to be, where you're not wanted then you have to pay a price for doing so. Excuses don't count and I've heard many such as I wanted to be friends or I came to see your land.

I don't want to hear it, plain and simple.

I've been caged once in my home and once at my store. Both times were surprisingly upsetting. I'm usually a really chilled person but I guess the adrenaline starts pumping when your avi gets attacked. I'm not sure how much effect having scripts and objects turned off and having 'restrict pushing' turned on really has. Certainly I was caged on land that had these off/on and it didn't seem to make any difference.

If you don't like ban lines then the best solution imho is to get a security orb. There are a few on the market and they really aren't that hard to set up. Usually a menu system that pops up when you click them.

You can set them up so that people in a certain group have access when others don't or just give the individuals who live or visit you access. They are really great and have lots of functionality.

The best thing about orbs is that, as someone posted earlier, you can have it so that they just protect your house/skybox. So you can leave other parts of your land open.

Send me an IM and I'll let you know where mine came from and drop you a copy of the instruction notecard so you can see how it works.

p.s. Did someone mention pie?

ditto. I get the biggest kick out of SL meeting people. Always did. Second I love exploring. I hate banlines with a vengeance. Why should one griefer spoil things for a dozen or more explorers?

LOL Ava - you can't hand out pie without a hobbit to help!

Morwen? 3am? Is that cos your better? *hugs*

I used the Eject button for the first time the other day. I was in a private moment, and because I had forgotten to lock the door. I looked up and some guy was standing in the room watching. He was promptly dispatched. If I were alone I would have greeted him, informed him it was a private residence, invited him to look around, whatever. But in that instance he wasn't welcome. You wanna watch, you gotta pay.... :p

One thing for the OP to keep in mind too is ... if this has never happened before, you might want to take the ban lines down and wait a while to see if it happens again. It could just have been some random aberration that doesn't really warrant upgrading your security.

My partner and I kept our property unsecured for a while, on the grounds that we didn't mind people looking around when we weren't there and for a while we had not had any real problems with people popping in when we were. It was only after some changes to our island started bringing more pass-through traffic -- and more people wandering around and walking into our house and poking around as we stood there watching them -- that we got orbs.

If it had happened rarely, once or twice a month, we probably would have kept things as they were, because we can certainly eject/ban the clods who refuse to leave when asked. But when it got to be several times a week and especially when one guy re-appeared in our living room just one day after we'd thrown him out the first time, we had to increase the security.

Ouch. I'm glad it was not your land I accidentally teleported into the other day. I was sorting through old LMs, and I believe the one I followed had been for a store - but when I popped in, it was into the middle of a house the owner was building at the time.

The first thing I did was to type, "Sorry - old LM." The second was to TP home. The third was to delete the obviously outdated LM. But I would have hated to have been orbited for an honest mistake...

Heh, I sometimes forget there are people who haven't been orbited.

Some weapon systems, notably ones with "cages," will forcibly teleport your avatar to a great distance. Often, your avatar finds itself dangling in the graphic for outer space, and the elevation can be measured in the millions, or even billions, of meters. This means you cannot really just fly back; you have to teleport or relog. Some orbiters will also deform the appearance of your avatar and may affect scripts on attachments, and to get rid of these effects it is necessary to relog and perhaps replace the affected attachments from your inventory.

The indignation mainly comes from being subjected to an unprovoked attack, usually without warning, and to the obviously intentional disrespect conveyed by the attack. Indignation is that much greater when you are interrupted doing something you need to concentrate on (like building) or which you attach importance to (like perhaps an intimate moment with a partner). Griefers evidently take malicious delight in doing this; many people take great exception to being a griefer's punching bag.

Attacks can be thwarted by sitting on an object and remaining there, but if you want to be doing anything that requires standing or moving and instead must sit because of someone else's petty malice, that obviously thwarts your intention too.

Best thing IMO: Work on making SL so inhospitable to griefers they want to vent their childish hostilities somewhere else.

Rioko, unless you are in a combat sim, don't orbit people. Are you the owner of the land or the group that owns the land? If so you can eject and ban anyone who bothers you on your land. This is "legal' and won't get you in trouble.

But if you orbit someone in a non combat sim, you can be AR'd and get a suspension from SL.

If you need some help using your land tools, IM me in world and I will show you how to use them.
