Phone sex is no more real than SL sex (if anything it's less real) and that costs tens (if not hundreds) times more.

I take your point Draco, but note that I wasn't suggesting that phone sex was more real than SL, rather that there was a real need in RL for paid sex, for many and varied reasons

I would think not all "Escorts" are strictly looking for profit. I'd imagine some are using it as just another type of RP and the exchange of funds ae part of it. If voice chat distresses you, take a Sci Fi outlook on it. Consider texting to be an advanced form of communication, telepathy of a sort. And accept that certain Primitive Societies still use verbal communication as they haven't evolved past it yet........ :p

Points well made and taken, Brenda and Colette ("some of the reasons behind virtual prostitution...";). Of course, even with a Sci Fi outlook, I'd probably have a problem if I were Asonu (ref. Ursula Le Guin). However, I think I'll focus on polishing the telepathy... what, you were thinking that too??? Amazing!

I knew you were going to say that.

And you probably knew somebody was going to post that line, too - though you probably didn't need to be psychic to figure it out. :)

Shouldn't you be getting back to the Fortress of Solitude? Or the FireHouse?

So is Role Play ended now that voice is universally available but the client is optional, or does Role Play continue until the voice client becomes mandatory, at which point, I presume, Role play comes to a dead stop in mid sentence?

There will be a Wednesday update. Before the update there will be Role Play. After the Update Voice enabled Party Line.

I'm a roleplayer (or try to be :D ) i wont use this "addon", i found it useless on RP sim for some reasons : I play a Drow (darkelf) so tell me where to find a Tengwar language school? :p . Secondly i'm not English native spoken, i can write and read it but not speaking (too difficult with accent and all).

I'm not against the voice feature, just i found it usefull for meeting and/or private chat (its not new : TS, Ventrilo, Skype, msn, etc...) . But i wont use it.

I dont care about crossgender, about this girl is a boy, SL is free, free of what you want to do. I'm a girl, i dont have to prove it, if someone wont trust my gender its simple, i'll explain one time, if he dont want understand my point of view, ... /mute and cya!

And finally i dont know the english term for it, but i have a physical problem with my voice "je begaie" (sorry i really dont know the term ^^ ) for example if its easy for me to say "hello, how are you?" in tiping chat, in vocal will not be the same like "h..hel..hello, ho..how a..a are y...you?" see? :)

So i will continue to use the tiping and put the vocal feature on "listen only".

because after all SL its Your world, your imagination ... no? ;)

*cheek*

PS: sorry for my english :)

Your English is fine. What you describe is called a Stutter.

In English, that is Stutter. :) And your English is perfectly fine!

I know what you mean about the voice though. Do to a throat injury years back, I can only speak in a whisper, and it is very harsh. Even IRL, I speak very little, prefering people to communicate with me via email. I will continue to use the Nicholaz client, and pretty much pretend voice is the voices I hear in my head! :)

Personally Im not bothere whether people use it or not. I have used it on the odd occasion and Im sure there will still be plenty of avs out there who are not the same sex in RL, we never bothered before so why bother now. Voice is optional - luckily - as I can be shy using my voice with the Manchester hint of an accent lol. I won't use it all the time, I do prefer to type, and I'm sure a lot of people don't like using it. Its personal preference.

I am sure a lot of the opposite sex avs won't use it for obvious reasons, but it's their choice.

We can all still get on in SL as we have before, it is supposed to be fun, it is supposed to be a place we can be whoever we want to be (I for one am not 6ft 10in in RL like my AV is) so I guess the only way we can really tell how voice affects things is wait and see.

In the meantime, have fun everyone ;-)

Thats a good point about the voices you hear in your head. Its the same as reading a book, you use your imagination to put voices to text. I do like to imagine what people sound like, and so far I've not come across many people who DO use voice for whatever reason, it's nice to make your own mind up.

You only need one. "I don't want to". It's the one I intend to use.
