I have to pick the avatars built by Rogo Gorky and Jessica Harrington. They are the most awesome avatars I think I've ever seen aside from the Little Critters. Going to try to upload a couple shots I took. The first one is a robot / semi-truck. The second is a flying robot with actual flames that transforms into an airplane where the propeller actually works! At present count, they have 15 different transformers.

Ok, Im putting in another photo of one that does not transform, but shows their awesome work.

I gotta throw in my vote, but it's such a hard choice.

SteveR Whiplash for his Monkeh
Marcos Fonzerelli and Armord for having the most stylish avs I've seen in SL
Kage Seraph for his one giant mech that has the armatures on the back of it (ah I can't remember the name)
And RacerX Gullwing for his comic style, it's classic yet unique as anything.

I would say, out of those, I think the most impressive is Kage's and he get's my vote, but I am a huge fan of the others as well.
