From: Pypo Chung Check Out Minerva or Navora if you want stats and stuff, heh thats a game in sl for jooz I'll check that out, and pray that there's people online given where I live (i am ahead 12 hours of most people in SL). Do you happen to know the system they have been using? Or the type of roleplaying environment they have? Oh, just because I like stats doesn't mean I make a l337 number muncher.

I prefer roleplay to be more lighthearted than what most "starch" roleplay I see nowadays. We had a massive RP campaign in Larry Elmore's 'SnarfQuest' world and it was an absolute hit; the characters included Raff the rat's cousin, an oversized myopic phoenix (me!), a human berserker and a female elven wizard, and a donkey more finicky then Morris the Cat. There was plenty of comedy and almost cartoon-ish situations. Even when we were serious, we were not *terribly* anal about it or anything, we were there to have fun. And there was no dice or such, we were all free to play through battles however we wanted, as long as we didn't make things too quick or easy. The plots were never really dark and were actually quite uplifting.... we didn't care for the dark sinister stuff. Sadly it's for this reason I suspect most other players won't want me around. The group I had was superb and we have stacks of textfiles saved, based on our adventures. Unless someone *wants* a 20' long myopic phoenix around....

I would love for Darkparadise to be that detailed. Leaving out all but RP chatter would be a wonderful escape for a while heh. I'm still trying to get players and figure out where and when it will mostly happen. Like I said before I'm in it for the fun and wish all the ppl that play to have fun...cause if your not haven fun whats the point?

Interested ... and a "Dawn Patroller"

I've been free-form roleplaying for over 10 years, starting in CompuServe HSX Forum (an adult chat and rp space disguised as a Sexuality discussion forum), some time served in structured RP in Ultima Online, and most recently in Sociolotron, a post-apocalyptic London space. Joined SL for the combination of visual interest and acceptance of adult graphics and interaction.
I stumbled upon the Dickensian world of Withnail Academy when I encountered one of its star pupils lounging around a portal, and have just begun exploring it. Who knows, perhaps they need an instructor with experience in both RPing and teaching (evil grin).
Some ideas: * more publicity of the RP venues. I'd never heard of Withnail Academy, and only discovered it by looking up the profile of said star pupil. Spreading "Withnail Academy Uniform" clothing in more stores and venues might help, as would Academy faculty, students and staff loitering at popular portals in character. Other venues might do the same. * cross-venue events. For example, Withnail Academy could host a conference of RPers at the Academy, to meet, compare costumes and toolsets and discuss "exchange students" or interbreeding of slaves/serfs/interns. * merging similar RP concepts and sims. So many want to "do their own thing" and have a RP sim that meets their personal ideal, that they miss the importance of critical mass and the benefits of network effects (a network's utility is a function of the *square* of its users, so adding users increases a network's utility out of proportion to their number). * RP Faires. Have a program where different RP venues are represented at an event or popular venue, either by actual live representatives or by cut-outs in dioramas with introductory "brochures." Could include sales and swaps of costumes, toolsets and scripts appropriate to each venue. * RP University. Could be a variation on the Role Players United group mentioned up-thread. Methods, toolsets and ideas could be compared and successes and failures analyzed. Round-table discussions could help RPers and potential RPers evaluate each other's offerings.
My time in SL is constrained, due to RL keeping me out during the prime times of the afternoon and evening hours of Pacific Time. But I'm usually on 5AM-7AM Eastern and many weekdays 11AM-3PM Eastern.

IM me in world and send me a notecard containing your Curriculum Vitae and cover letter. If it all checks out, I'll invite you to the group, then you can work on recruiting students from your own timezone. -WW

Hiya! I had fun yesterday RPing with Leena, Testiment, and Darksprite. Dunno if the Paradox-riddled clockwork girl escaped from some mad scientist's lab will be my permanent character, but it was a hoot to play. Looking forward to more. -Ghoti

The phoenix may wander by tonight. :> Edit: Yeah, I had to quit the group. Thank the 15-group limit for that.

Dang! I missed the last RP. Testament, if ever you have any group rp event like happenings or there's a group around, try to get it out on the group 'proposal' so we can all get the announcement when we get online. Living 12 hrs ahead of everyone else sucks. Y_Y
I hate missing stuff like these.
William, I got to visit Whitenail (several times) and I love your school, too bad there was no one there when I went. But I'm now inspired to make boarding school uniforms for the girls--my little break in my gown making. (after the break I'll resume my gothic victorian gowns and then go to the 18-19th century gowns--maybe if I'm lucky there'll be a high fantasy or victorian RP group somewhere I can join in so I can wear them gowns).

I am curious about the whole 'Withnail Academy' too.... but a Google search for it came up only with a few event listings from here.

Of Mice and Men and Clockwork Girls...
11-03-2005 12:42
I had fun with the RP too Its so refreshing to play with a wide variety of different characters from all walks of life/unlife. The concept of this RP is simple...a tavern where any and every type of creature can wander in and make themselves at home. Its exactly like walking into a bar in RL too....you meet people with backgrounds that you arent aware of and part of the fun is finding out who/what they are and where they came from. Sometimes they end up being from the same background as you....sometimes they end up being kinda scarey, either way its always interesting fishing out the story behind the face. I thought the clockwork girl was a unique and intrigueing idea (but of course my character wouldnt know what to make of such a thing) and I can only imagine what a rich background a clockwork girl can have. I'm looking forward to meeting more creatures of interest...and perhaps making new characters myself. As someone who has played WhiteWolf games as well as many other types of RP's I must say that Freeform is very "user friendly" with such games and any WW character can easily slip into the tavern and interact with this RP. To say that this RP is WW based would be too limiting I think (as I would love to have pheonix's and dragons and ect. come calling) but suffice it to say that WW is most welcome as are any other RP characters. If you love to RP with a lot of rules where you can "beat" people and "win" then this RP obviously wouldnt be very fun for you, but if your main goal is to have fun in a relaxed atmosphere while stretching your writing muscles (and your imagination) then DP is the place for you

I can't believe I missed this threat, would definitely be interested in RPing, "Mage : The Ascension" used to be one of my favorites. Please either post here when the next RP will happen or invite me to a group if you have one set up, and count me in...

Tonight
11-04-2005 09:48
Just a heads up that both Testament and I plan on being in DP tonight (or at least "ON" from 4pm-ish game time until the computer screen gets all blurry and typing becomes a functional issue. I'm thinking that a weekly set time for RP might be better then trying to coordinate everyones schedules...we are trying to figure out a way of posting when certain people can be on so that everyone gets a chance to RP but so far the idea of an ingame bulletin board hasn't materialized. Of course leaving IM's will work for now, so I encourage everyone to IM Testament with times they can RP. He is working 6-7 days a week now but he'll adjust his freetime around RP if needed (as will I). If there is a certain time that everyone can be online that'd be great but pretty improbable so we'll probably have split schedules so everyone in the group has a chance to RP. If there is anyone in the group that has a larger amount of freetime please let Test or I know. For those who haven't joined the group but are curious please feel free to drop in tonight and lurk.

From: Kage Seraph Do I infer correctly from "Paradox-riddled" that this is White Wolf-based? Well, WoD is my own personal second-favorite roleplaying paradigm. I had no clue what to expect the other night, and sorta put together a concept on the fly based on past experience and attachments I happened to be wearing at the time I arrived. WaRP Graphics "ElfQuest" from back in the MUSH days of playing on TwoMoons and other various EQ MUSHes is my very favorite RP paradigm, but I have not yet created an AV in that genre... mainly because I've seen no one else with anything EQ-related in SL. Hmmmm... my interest in such is now rising. In any case, I have a different new character idea to play already. -Marc

From: Yuriko Muromachi You and me both. I'd love to play Mage, Dark Ages Mage. I might give Dark Ages Vampire a try (not really fond of vamps, I prefer werewolf the wild west) but there are just so many poseurs than actual roleplayers that it practically turns me off.
I'm working on putting together a White Wolf V:tM or Changeling group as soon as I find enough interested people. Send me an IM sometime If it ever does get off the ground - I'm no scripting genius, so I'd need some help finding a scripter for dice objects. I'm also a terrible builder - but somewhere like Midnight City would be a wonderful place to play! As far as the whole avatar/character etc - I'd probably go about it by having everyone play with titlers of their character's name. That way you don't have to re-register an account if your character gets bumped off. Different hair, a clothes change and a minor shape-tweak can do a lot to alter an avatar's appearance. (And if you wanted to be ultra-diehard, you could turn the names on your screen off, that way you'd only see the character names.) I've got some other ideas on how to handle different things - but they aren't quite fit for public consumption yet, I have to really think this through before I start putting it in motion.

Just an information shout out for people. I occasionally run a table top game of shadowrun on SL. Used to be every saturday but it's slacked off the last few months. After I get the 4th edition book, I'm going to restart the games again. If you're interested in joining, it's the Shadowrun Group, just look for my name in it. We typically just write out text stories, our characters are not our avatars, although you get karma points just for showing up decked out as your character.

Sounds like some very interesting things going on with regards to Role Playing here. A lot of what has been discusses sounds like an extension of the Simming I have more often done. The story is King as it were. It would be worth looking into Im sure have to get in touch with somebody now.

I was going to offer him my place (my store is small and the rest has been converted into an out door garden with couches and a dance circle) too as an alternative hangout since his Dark Paradise is more or less 'dark' orientated, mine would be more or less the opposite. My place is role-player friendly (and encouraged) so if you're looking for an alternative hang out drop by. Everyone is welcome there.
