Dam hippies learn to vote that is the strongest power you have.

That's unspeakably wise. Hippies? Voting? Well I did.

I'd plan a rise to political power, institute an umbrella organization for the purpose of consolidating all governmental agencies into one cohesive group. I'd then declare war on any one organization, group or entity that didn't see things my way and did not adhere to my doctrines for the sake of protecting my government's "interests" and of course, in the end, with the umbrella organization lumping everyone into one easily-overseen group, it'd be that much easier for everyone to see how much it sucks fat gnome ass and that I should be thronw out of office.

Sound familiar?

Government?
10-14-2005 17:46
Not sure what this post is about. We already have government in SL. It's called "Linden Labs".

When I can't get in trouble for shooting people, THEN we have no government . . .

Here's a better question:

When is democracy coming to SL? Because I don't remember voting for any Lindens . . .

Government? In SL? I can't see it mattering one bit. After having had a run-in with someone yesterday that thought they were a Linden, and realizing that all they can do is griefer-type actions outside their own land, any in-SL gov't would be rather powerless -- or quickly griefed out of existence by people with bigger pushguns/nukes.

I would try getting into the government and work to make it as restrictive and invading on people's freedom as possible ; I would suggest using popular moral values to fuel it. Chances are the SL population would consist of a large part of normal people (in opposion to idealist freedom loving ones), so it would work.

I would internally laugh all the time, of course.

What's the real life US goverment have to do with anything?

i'd summon the black materia to crush the government, following my realization that it might just kill me in the proscess i'd summon white materia to counteract it, and then be praised as a god.... life is good

If player-run government came to SL, I would oppose it. Just as I oppose the majority in SL who say that player-run government isn't necessary today.

My Second Life fantasy is opposition to the majority, and nobody, nobody, can take that away from me....

^^lmao ...funny as hell but I couldnt agree more <applause from the peanut gallery...and throws a few shells on the floor> Pardon my late arrival in this, just catching up while SL is down for the update. As one of the seemingly few adult (33) females represented by an adult female avi in world, thot I'd pipe in my humble, scientifically uneducated (as I do lack a science degree, think it was the smell from disecting the frogs in high school that turned me off) opinion.

Speaking of high school, a player-run government would become nothing short of a circus of a popularity contest of the masses ...which would also include many (not all, calm down) of those who say it isant necessary, as there seems to be no short supply of band wagon jumpers in SL and would be the majority vote after all.

I'm thinking this whole idea however, of a resident created world with a resident run government while the muula rolls in ...is pure genius ...damn I wish I was a Linden. :D

The irony is (speaking for myself) I've paid money for about two years now to play this "game" ..to hang out, meet and interact with interesting people, and indulge in creativity as a way to relax and unwind (escape if you will) temporarily from RL ...because its "fun" for me, and I dont golf. But to turn a world full of imagination and unique creativity without limitations such as SL, into our modern real world is nothing short of disappointing. Nor do I have the desire for an overblown ego resident dictator strutting about in his Donald Trump combover telling me what I can/cannot say, can/cannot do ....in my game, that I create for myself, that I pay for.

Gonna arrest my avi, if she goes to visit the headshop? Well then you better build a prison, lol ...cuz there's many to be rounded up with the drugs, prostitution, theft, arsen, not to mention acts of terriorism and murder, gang violence, mofia activity ...hell I've been abducted by aliens, isant that kidnapping? And would letting a vampire drain you be considered suicide?

I havent givin a rats ass what the majority think of my SL, or what they do with their own SL to date anyway, and that wont change.

I'm thinking, just leave it alone ...many sims out there already have their own forms of government/lifestyles etc. Let each do as they please, diversity and freedom of choice is what makes SL special.

Either way, despite my thots ...I dont plan on going anywhere anytime soon, nor will I be campaining for Donald. I'm guessing the cock fight will all be quite entertaining for the rest of us ...as my avi sits here and enjoys a smoke with my bud MaryJane and shells a few more peanuts ...as I point and laff.

Unless the government was friendly to furs then I expect you'd have the entire furry community on SL waging all out war on any attempt to govern us =)

I personaly wouldnt want an SL goverment of any kind. Sure if its restricted to certain sims that be alright because if I dont like what their doing I can leave for greener pastures. But with a world-wide goverment in place their would be no escape, if I didint like how they did things Im bascily stuck with it.

Sure we might get a goverment that is just, stable and is realy looking out for us but odds are we'd get stuck one thats as greey and courpt as the one we have now here in the US. Do you realy want to deal with leaders that devote most their time to mud slinging, false promuses and makeing everyone elce live by the goverments standards, beleafs and personal intreast?

Personaly I come on here to get away from that and I think the lindins do fine as the unseen goverment.

Been thinking about this and you know there kinda is a government in SL... ran by the Lindens, our president is Phillip, our senators are the lindens, the house of representatives are those really active players...

but if a government truely really came upon SL... I would grab some popcorn and chuckle - I've seen these start in some other online spaces, and I chuckle at some of the mindless discussions conerning digital governing rights.

No govemment is needed!!

Any goverments role is necessarily to protect individual rights..specifically ones right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. SL doesn't need a goverment since people can't die in SL and citizens are free to do most anything they like. violating others "rights" is extremently dificult in SL and so a goverment is not required. Introducing a goverment opens the door for wasteful taxation for everyone and administration by...somebody.
Now, that being said, if SL more closely modeled our metaphysical existance, i.e. we could die and people could steal, cheat, and commit fraud, then a government would most definately be needed. Goverment could exist without taxation - See Ayn Rands "Virtue of Selfishness" for a suggestion for goverment financing.
