A 210 second clip on MTV gives the viewer over two hundred opportunites to press the channel changer on the remote control. I think length like that was probably considered "daring" by the producers.

For some reason I'm getting images of a whole caste of cafe staffers in-game all claiming to be models and actors.

Unfortunately MTV's discriminatory policy - which makes no sense - means that as a non-US player I can't even see the programme which I was supposed to be featured in.

Four times we tried to schedule to video me, and each time something 'more important' came up which meant it had to be put off. In full knowledge that I was in the UK, they offered me a filming slot at 3am my time - which was about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

It seems like MTV screwed everyone over on this one, and for one am glad that I ended up not being involved.

Perhaps LL need to be a little more select in who they allow in to do publicity such as this. After all, the proof is here to read that just because MTV happens to be a big name, it doesn't mean they actually have any clue on how to deal with things that don't fit into their usual little production boxes.

The "Bells and Spurs" production, however, has restored my faith that it is possible to achieve something in SL.

Hm.
From: someone
In order to offer a broad selection of full-length music videos on-demand and free of charge, MTV Overdrive uses Windows Digital Rights Management (DRM) to protect videos from unauthorized re-distribution.

Unfortunately, Microsoft's Windows Media Player Plug-in for Macintosh does not support Windows DRM. If DRM support becomes available for Macintosh, MTV will develop a version of MTV Overdrive that works on a Mac.

Combining the terms "DRM", "Windows Bloody Media Player", "up your arse" and "wankers" will give you an idea of what my reaction to that was.

If there was ever a sensible thing to have distributable "virally" over the internet, but no, corporate dinosaurism.

Use Internet Explorer to go to:

It works with Firefox (Windows), too, but it asks you to download an ActiveX plugin first.

I'm not much amazed by the content of the clip, though.

The clip title is: "Coltrane hosts Second Life's first ever fashion..." [show]

What a blatant lie! I've seen fashion shows in SL way before this MTV one. I know this is TV, more so MTV, meaning that every 2 seconds the picture/camera must change, but it is annoying. I've seen far better fashion designs in SL than shown here. And the avatar who cut off his head? Well, I guess that's supposed to be funny, eh :-)

PS: I am from Europe (though not the UK).

Hehe, reading back on the comments, if I was in the group that got fsckd by MTV, I think I'd just get the group together, film a REAL avatar fashion show with those ppl, cut it, wrap it up and get it out somewhere on the web, and get the word out so many ppl can see and enjoy it!

And of course, maybe even title the fashion show 'F*** MTV Fashion Show' :-)

I offer my condolensces.
