From: Frank Lardner "We just want this shoot to go as smoothly (lag free) as possible, and really the only way we can do that is taking control of the situation ourselves for a brief amount of time."
What I think this may mean, is he wants our coolest residents "look," but without the actual, troublesome residents in them ... maybe he's concerned that a live shoot will be too much like herding cats or taking a photo of 25 crawling babies. By "taking control of the situation" I suspect he means occupying some avies and posing them around, then doing some shoots with SL avis as background props. Sounds like zombies to me.
Am I right? Bingo. And you'll have very little to zero control on where/how you're posed, too. God bless MTV. You kids seeking a shot on TV have fun!

re: MTV avatar fashion showcase

I recommend that if you have any desire to take part in this showcase, and want to show off your "av creation" to the world, submit your photo to the email address provided.
We will try to make it work for everybody who wants to be in the show. Possibly even setting up seperate shoots for the craziest av's.
So, if you submit a truly unique av that we've never seen before, we will definitely do our best to get you into the show.
Be sure to email a snapshot ASAP to MTVsecondlife@mtv.com
Thanks again.

deadline for MTV Avatar fashion Show submission
12-23-2005 15:07
ASAP!!!
: )
We're looking to shoot this during the second or third week in January, so I would say that 1/9 is the artificial deadline.
Anything after that and it's going to be cutting it close to our show date.
But, then again, depending how fast we can work something out, and how flexible your schedule is, we should be able to work something out with everybody.
But, get those submissions in quickly. The show is going to get full very quickly!
Thanks again.
And feel free to IM me in-world if you have questions or ideas you'd like to chat about.

Glitchy,
Thank you for doing this - it will be great exposure for SL. One question though. Many people who would probably like to enter their avatars cannot transfer all or part of their avatars. If the avatar is not transferrable to you, should someone still enter? I would hate to see that be the barrier. Also, a lot of people may not want to transfer it just on principle of not wanting to let anyone else have their unique creation. SL has some incredible avatars - people's creativity never ceases to amaze me, but they are also very protective of them and have to deal with the permissions system that we have, which will make it difficult to do what you are asking.

Linden authorized to allow use of "unique creation"
12-23-2005 16:02
From: Cristiano Midnight Glitchy, * * * Also, a lot of people may not want to transfer it just on principle of not wanting to let anyone else have their unique creation. SL has some incredible avatars - people's creativity never ceases to amaze me, but they are also very protective of them * * * Terms of Service: 5.3 Participant Content Ownership and License Terms, Including Participant Representations and Warranties. Participants can create Content on Linden's servers in various forms. Notwithstanding the foregoing, you understand and agree that by submitting your Content to any area of the service, you automatically grant (and you represent and warrant that you have the right to grant) to Linden: (a) a royalty-free, fully paid-up, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive right and license to use and reproduce (and to authorize third parties to use and reproduce) any of your Content in any or all media for marketing and/or promotional purposes in connection with the Service;Linden Lab can authorize MTV to do this ... but it is not clear that it has done so. avatar permissions
12-23-2005 16:06
From: Cristiano Midnight Glitchy,
Thank you for doing this - it will be great exposure for SL. One question though. Many people who would probably like to enter their avatars cannot transfer all or part of their avatars. If the avatar is not transferrable to you, should someone still enter? I would hate to see that be the barrier. SL has some incredible avatars - people's creativity never ceases to amaze me, but they are also very protective of them and have to deal with the permissions system that we have, which will make it difficult to do what you are asking. EVERYBODY who would like to be in the show should definitely submit. We will try as hard as we can to accommodate everybody's specific issues. Once we narrow down the submissions we will start contacting the people, and try to work something out. Do not let the rules stop you from submitting. If it is truly a unique avatar we will be able to work something out. I want this to be as open as possible to accomate everybody. We will try our best to make it this way. Thanks for your support Cristiano

SL MTV fashion show
12-23-2005 18:21
Hey all,
Just thought of a plan that for the show that will not require anybody to hand over their av. They will simply have to be available in-world at a certain time.
Stay tuned for details.
For now, keep submitting those pics!!! I want to see the wildest, most detailed, extravagant avatars you got!! Techies, gothies, tinies, furries, everybody! YOUR ALL INVITED!
Tell your friends that it's time they took their most fanciest av's out of the inventory, and paraded them around for the world to see!
Have fun,
GG

I quite like the idea of catching an MTV photo crew with the cage gun. We could keep them like butterflies in a jar. Pretty! Anyone who gets through to the shoot, keep this in mind. No, no, all the best. The exposure can only be good for LL. Might turn the grid into a 3D MySpace for a while if the show encourages thousands of MTV viewers to sign up, but everything will equalize in time. Definitely much better now that people aren't being asked to hand themselves over in a box. Be sure to update us with a screen date.

Well, if you would like a boring, ordinary default avatar, you could have me! When I think "avatars" I think about Yadni Monde, who is always making cool avatars to pass out for free at his junkyard. You might want to contact him to make sure he knows about this opportunity. coco

Well I sent in mine... I doubt it will get in, it's just my normal avatar... but I think my armor is kinda neat, so you never know.
I like that it's finally something focusing on the cool stuff that can be made rather than how much money people make. Course... you never know. I'll wait til I see it.

Not everyone who wants to be part of this is going to be able to. I can only hope that nobody takes it personal if they're not chosen. We all know what happens when you get too many avs in one place with something like this going on lol. I'm sure a lot of people want a shot to be involved in something with MTV as it would be great exposure if nothing else. A lot of us in Second Life don't have "crazy wild" avatars so more than likely the rather "normal" group of folks won't be recognized in this segment. I think anyone who is interested though should at least give it a shot, you've got nothing to lose really. I submitted one of my avatars, though I'm sure I'm not crazy enough lol. Thanks for the opportunity by the way and I look forward to seeing the results!

I'm putting in an application but mentioning the slight problem with my phoenix, namely that the code is old and underdeveloped.... and that since there's no llResetScript() in any of them, that they only will accept me operating them. So if they really have to take a copy of it, then I won't be able to enter it as the wings, scripts, etc.... nothing will work. I'd edit it to work, but with so many scripts to edit it would take me a year to edit and resave every single one. So the phoenix may or may not get another chance. Hopefully the "We are looking into an invite system, so that you may attend, and possibly display your own avatar, but for right now, we’d like to do this with as little actual people there as possible." mentioned in Catherines thread will happen.... Otherwise the phoenix won't be available.

Thank you MTV for not forcing me to go to the effort of altering my perception of you by doing things in SL as badly as you do everything else you have ever done.

From: Cristiano Midnight Wow, what a friendly reception. If MTV wanted a friendly reception, they should have done something to contribute to SL, rather than making their first act to basically ask players to give them content with zero return to be used as a money making tool.

Tell your friends that it's time they took their most fanciest av's out of the inventory This pretty much says it all. Joe and Jane Average are not truly being sought for this segment which will definitely paint SL residents as a bunch of off-beat whacko technodweebs, almost certainly with a dash of antisocial weirdo thrown in for good measure. Then again, MTV isn't the Lawrence Welk show nor even CMT - they have a particular spin they put on everything. In this case, it's simply publicly stated what that spin will be. All you have to do is read.

Just to add my two cents: I met Glitchy at SLCC - in fact, I was kind of in shock that MTV showed up! - and while he's relatively new to the community, he's very enthusiastic. He was very pleasant to meet with and very fun to hang out with for the time we did. I hope this all works out! Maybe SL can breathe some life into MTV and vice versa. Regards, -Flip
