Even though you're MTV, you still have to post your ads in the classified forums, you know.

I'm definetly wild looking... But having my shape alone would not be enough. And I doubt i would give copies of my pierces to anyone....ever.

That should save about 200 people from having to actually post. Including me.

From: CrystalShard Foo So tell me, when are you guys going to start broadcasting some actual music for a change? They still play music videos. About 5 of them starting at 2AM. Do we have to be under 25 years of age and incredibly self-centered to take part in this?

Erm silly question but how are you going to be able to do this with only a shape, afterall a shape wont look much good in a newbie skin and clothes and with no attachments
And if you do then ask for all those if they are transferable they are most likely no copy, so will you be returning the items, and how long will the people be without their avatars, thats if they can find hair that is transferable

That hit me as odd too.

Is there some reason I'm not aware of to believe that this is anything other than complete BS?
Actually never mind, even if its completely as described in the post, its complete BS.

Hmmm... yes, the Av is more than the shape... especially for robots, furries, cyborgs, etc. Some clarification would be good. And why not shoot the Avs one at a time by tping them in and then having them leave... that would be lag free.

Yes obviously they have no idea on what makes an avie unique. Typical MTV lack of thought has surely gone into this. My avie wouldn't be the same in a skin that isn't the 100% custom one that I have.
Besides.. wouldnt the fact that MTV is reviewing and selecting avies on principle would actually mean that they have no ounce of creativity? MTV is about what is popular, not creativity.

Avatar show? yet you need only avatar shapes and we do NOT have to be there? This was made to show off unique avatars? Most unique avatars are NOT just shapes and usually are built from a series of items and might be no transfer. With this said I would be all for it as many comment on my unique AVIE but *shrugs* I'm not just a shape and I am a late night SLer.

I could be wrong but I think this was just bringing attention to the announcement by Catherine Linden, which Cory linked above.

There was that computer-animated video for "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits, which has a feel not unlike SL... I'd like to see an SL version of that, actually.

You know, if you really wanted to make SL sound significantly less than cutting edge, that would be the best comparison in the world to make

MTV AV Show clarification
12-23-2005 12:40
Hey all,
Thanks for your response.
To make this show work, which we REALLY REALLY want to do, we will definitely need everything that makes your avatar special and unique. From the clothing, to the accessories, and beyond. Not just your skin.
We guarantee to not keep your avatar any longer then we have to. A few days, maximum. If you want it back at any point during our possession we will be happy to oblige.
We just want this shoot to go as smoothly (lag free) as possible, and really the only way we can do that is taking control of the situation ourselves for a brief amount of time.
We want to make this show really special, and show off the world and all the fabulous creations you guys work so hard at.
I will be happy to try to help everybody, but until we come up with a more managable solution, the rules of the contest will most likely stay the same.
Also, I hope these rules don't discourage anybody from submitting, as this is an avatar celebration, not a critique, review, or a contest. Simply a place to show off your amazing creations.
Again, we want to put together a great show and feature the wildest creations in-world, the people themselves! Come one, come all.
Remember: email a snapshot of your av to MTVsecondlife@mtv.com
Thanks again.
Please feel free to contact me in-world (or continue to post here) with any questions.

Indeed! But maybe you are not familiar with SL "permissions" but most of unique avatars are made from MODIFY wearable prim attachments. And when they are mod, they are most often NO TRANSFER. Wich means we can't give them to you. And also, most unique stuff is NOT for sale. So you can't go and buy it to then reproduce it on our shape. So sadly, this is not making any sens at the moment. Have any idea? I am quite interested. Thank you! :3

Does he think that the avis work without someone in them?

He's saying MTV will only keep the avis a few days ... it sounds like he thinks that the avi is something that a resident can take off. I've always thought of the avi as the skin, the clothes, PLUS the animations and the person inside that animates it, makes it talk, etc.
Now, I can see MTV filming at a beach club with 20+ live avis in the background in swimwear dancing and whooping it up, but soul-less cut-outs of residents? Sounds like a request from someone who does not actually have a Second Life.

Glitchy giving an avatar is kind like "Giving your hide" you take it and you are pretty much out of luck playing if that is your ownly skin. Also many permissions will now allow us to share our items. Instead maybe a photo submission at first and then a avie to avie talk? Also is there any idea of when this will take place as far as "weekend" or "weekday" I ask only cause as stated earlier many would not be able to attend a weekday one that could a weekend event such as myself.

Krassora, I'm thinking zombies.

"We just want this shoot to go as smoothly (lag free) as possible, and really the only way we can do that is taking control of the situation ourselves for a brief amount of time."
What I think this may mean, is he wants our coolest residents "look," but without the actual, troublesome residents in them ... maybe he's concerned that a live shoot will be too much like herding cats or taking a photo of 25 crawling babies. By "taking control of the situation" I suspect he means occupying some avies and posing them around, then doing some shoots with SL avis as background props. Sounds like zombies to me.
Am I right?
