I confess, I don't get out of Riiki near enough. So I pulled up the Events calendar thinking I would find something interesting to do. Seventy-Eight events listed for today, Wednesday. Promising. Then I started breaking them into categories.

34 - Come dance at our club and put on your sexiest <fill in blank> contest.
20 - Come dance at our club for one reason or another.
8 - Bingo, Bingo, Bingo (1 poker)

Wow... if SL mirrors RL as some people claim, I must not get out enough in RL either.

Surreal

I was told, that in order to have my event listed in the events page, It HAD to be a contest of skill of some kind. So I started adding trivia to my events.

No Mags. I post events all the time that aren't contests. To recieve Linden Support, as in recompensation for prize money given, it has to be a contest of sorts. Any of the catagories available under the "catagory" drop down list when creating you event are fair game.

SOLUTIONS:

(1) Categorized drop downs for events

(2) ENFORCE THE FRICKIN' RULES! 1 event per person per day. In fact, screw that, its not working. Make it ONE EVENT, PER SIM, PER DAY. One event, PER PERSON, per week that isn't Linden endorsed (IE: Teaching a class, trivia or show at tell at Stage 4). That'll give everyone in the sim a chance to have their one event per week and stop clubs from having 18 events a day just spamming the club list.

I really miss being able to find a single trivia event. Or anything not mind numbingly stoopid.

Hahaha! An event where everyone puts in one piece of their body and we see what the Avatar looks like when we are finished. Now THAT would be fun and freaky. LOL :D

Maybe events for more advanced builders/scripters?

I attended a particle class last week and it was very informative and interesting, and reasonably well attended too.

When I started SL I hit the clubs too - and watching your av dance does get old really fast - so I taught myself some building basics, and learned how to at least modify scripts using open source ones. Right there, that put me beyond "basic" building/scripting offerings.

If there were more advanced classes, I would be over it like white on rice.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I'm thinking about holding a class - Alpha Textures Suck! (I have never been able to figure out alpha textures - they just don't work right for me in PS7 - but the workarounds I use with transparent backgrounds, layer transparency, etc. work just fine and seem a lot easier to use. Given the amount of forum posts from others who are frustrated trying to get alphas to work, I think there might be a demand for it. I'll have screenshots, a notecard with full instructions and references, etc.)

I said the same thing about Wednesday's Event Listings...

I miss the originality of events back in the days when SL was a small community and events were more fun.

Thanks to the few that still come up with original enjoyable fun. I would recommend the fishing tournament when u see it listed. I don't remember the exact name but Neo is in. I had a blast and met some old friends as well as new while there.

I even took Reve there to fish with him. LOL I even fell in the water where I quickly found gigantic fish and sea monsters.

Hugs,
Misty

Aaaaactually.... that does give me an idea for an event...

Everyone enters an obscure picture of part of their av's body from an odd angle... and the contestants try to match the body part to the complete av... Hmmm...

clints' toe.

i dated that toe. i found it to be kinda low in nature. darn close to an outright heel. seemed a bit crusty to me. not much of a talker either. never understood the powder thing at all. so really to base an entire event on clints' toe is prolly not a good idea.

now i dont mean to be insulting, just, i could not tell if it was mad or glad or any emotional response. i have heard that i am not much fun on a date either, maybe we just aren't right for each other. so, no offense, i am sure it will find someone more suited to it.

(gasp!! Zoey was right!!)

The Lindens need to loosen up, especially when it comes to commercial events
12-30-2004 09:15
From: someone
Examples of opportunities that are NOT OK to post as events:
- Visit my land for sale.
- Visit my new store, half price sale.
- Come see the vendor spots for rent.
- Visit my building.

As I see it, there are lots of us engaged in the creation of commercial products. Since CEO Phillip Linden has previously espoused his fascination for SL as a petri-dish, i.e. with statements along the line of "let's see what develops when we let SL'ers loose in the metaverse," I can't understand the ban on commercial events.

I've worked some very long hours on some commercial projects that, were it the real world, would've been followed by an advertising campaign and splashy product-debut events. I wouldn't be asking for any Linden dollars. All I want is an opportunity to have a product premiere listed in the Events list.

Since SL is a market-driven metaverse with a freely-traded currency, I cannot understand why the Lindens do not want commercial events listed in Events. If I had a choice to visit the latest "Sexy AV" contest, the latest Club money-ball event, or a debut of an interesting new product from a top designer / builder / and/or scripter, I'd rather go to the product event.

What is wrong with commercial promotion in the Events area?? I totally agree with those who say that the Lindens should loosen up on artificially stiffling the range of events that could be listed. If someone want to hold an all-products-half-price event, why can't they?

The free market and competition are at the core of the SL economy ... why, then, are commercial events prohibited?? I'd *love* to see product debut events, and even convention-center-style trade shows. Why not in SL? I'd love for a Linden to jump into this thread and explain to me their reasoning behind such anti-commercial silliness.

-Jeri

p.s. ... and if someone *does* want to have a come to a see-my-big-toe event, why not allow it? Is the space available on the machine that databases the events so scarce that the Lindens cant afford to list all of the commercial events and "big toe" events too?

I looked at the events listings out of sheer boredom last week and found this particle class but got into it too late. :( What I saw of it was really great though and if it's offered again I'll make sure I show up on time. I think this was offered at The Learning Center. At the time I looked it was the ONLY event that was not club oriented.

I'm not slamming clubs here, sometimes they are fun. I'm just not into the whole naked AV/Sexy AV thing and would like some other things to do inside SL besides build and party naked.

The problem is not that they don't exist - the problem is that no one appears to know that they exist without checking the forum or being sent a direct IM.

Oh yeah but you did and instead of Joining one you decided to plot a Forum attack on clubs. So I sound like I am attacking back. It is just that geesh... I am not going to feel Guilty i have 5 - 1hour contest a week ...like I am part of the "Problem" that came up while you were sleeping and not bothering with the Event Calendar cause you were off using YOUR skills and talents!

<snip>

CAUSE I am responsible for me and my fun and I am responsible for realizing that i can annoy others complaining i dont like THEIR way and I am responsible for KNOWING that that is wrong. AND SO ARE YOU!

Wow.... I don't see anyone attacking clubs here. If a club is your bag and you're having fun... go for it. What I see here is a bunch of people talking about how they want more than the club scene; that there used to be more; trying to figure out where it went; and talking about a better event sorting tool.

Accept responsibility for your own hot button response to this thread. I have no responsibility to edit my comments on any situation to suit your sensibilities provided I maintain a reasonably civil and courteous dialog. Which I have. And amazingly (for the forums) so have the rest of the posters.

uM but i just looked through the calendar of events posted on Tuesday and Wednesday and Today. I see stuff there that i feel you must be over looking- Have you all actually looked at the calendar?

Thank you for replying to me - i was beginning to feel overlooked and like everyone was using planned ignoring on me. I do have hard time believing that Club Eventer's were not being attacked. I mean if you read the posts trying to put yourself in their shoes its like how can they read this without feeling like they should bow their heads and hide in shame. LOL

I really think and challenge you all to go read the calendar before complaining about it .

And i wasnt being being bad or uncivilized or anything. If you take it that way I am sorry. Maybe you should get out more.

LOL

I am sorry - it is just my humor

Hi Rose! I can drop you the teaching materials they handed out if you didn't get a chance to grab them. A couple of well annotated particle scripts and explicit instructions on what values to change - we mostly just experimented with different values to see the results, but that's 90% of the learning process anyway. I managed to take the script and later make an aquarium bubble effect for my shop. :D

The way event rules have been redesigned made the SL economy litterally crash down, the poors stay poor and only the rich can buy at will, reminds me of another world named real.....
Give back the Lindens for organising events and let people do commercial events such as Auctions, Invites to see a new place, Half Price Sales or anything that kind, and the economy will raise again.
