From: Spuds McCoy To all you others that have the misconception of what a Mafia Family is then I invite you to get to know us before you judge us. Honestly i doubt i am the one that have a misconception of what a mafia is. To me it seems that the ones that don't know what mafia really is are the ones that are so proud of displaying that name in their titles (a misconception generated by a few really silly hollywood movies). And if they do know, even worse.

From: Mysterious Zamboni .All of you sitting there bashing in game mafia/families , know nothing about it. Personally , i've been in my family over a yr now , and have known almost everyone in that family way longer. I'd follow them all to hell and back if thats what it took. G'nite. =) If it's not an emulation of a true mafia, then why the moniker? I'm really close with my SL friends too; we usually skip any sort of silly titles like "mafia" or "family", and prefer the more down-to-earth term "good friends". And no doubt there's less drama in my group than yours, because we don't have to keep any "family ties" or "favors to the mob" going. Every time I see someone with some sort of "family" or "mafia" tag, they're invariably walking around with too much firepower for the situation (double uzis in Grignano? wtf? Shotgun in the WA? Come on) My guess is people enjoy playing power games in SL; the concept of being in "The Mafia" is exciting to them. Personally, I find it silly, but that's just me. People no doubt find building neat structures in SL silly too, but that's what I do. Nevertheless, the general perception that most SL folks have of a mafia is a bunch of bullies wandering around demanding "protection" or participating in obscene gunfights like a bunch of hormone-enraged teenagers. If you don't want to be perceived as such, drop the family or mafia connotations. LF

Well one thing is for sure, if you could detect remotely if their <Enter> key was broken, you'd sure know you were dealing with MAFIA... In all seriousness though, you guys are dorks. I mean, cmon. Its like some geek in the basement decided to make his own 'virtual gang' where they'd hang out and be all tough. What? You'd get beat up in real life, trying to puff out your sunken birdcage chests and talking all tough. Ease up Buzby Birdswell, nobody is buying your act...lol.

To me it seems that the ones that don't know what mafia really is are the ones that are so proud of displaying that name in their titles (a misconception generated by a few really silly hollywood movies). And if they do know, even worse. I am speaking of SL not RL. I happen to know what the RL Mafia is all about. But why criticize what some enjoy , once again, ROLE PLAYING. No one is forcing you to role play, However, to sit there and criticize others because you don't like it makes you a bigot. What's next? You gonna criticize Vampires since they are evil, Pirates since they are also ruthless and evil? There is much more going on in SL that is worst. Why not go and prevent the prostitution of young teens in the game? We can sit here all day and pick apart anything and everything. This is about fun and not RL but you are taking it that way. Once again come and hang out with us and see for yourself before you judge and criticize. I am sure we can also sit and criticize and judge you but why bother? It's not about that, I'd rather spend time to get to know people and befriend them.

From: Heaven Lily Did Build something, check Heaven Island =) The last place in SL I would go to after reading Jolene's account is Heaven Island! Since I dont have a crystal ball allowing me to see the activity on the sim prior to my arrival, I risk the same unpleasant encounter and greeting JoJo experienced. Any island sim owner that has permissions set to open public teleport should not be greeting visitors with obnoxious push scripts and shooting. If the sim owner wants to restrict access, even during a temporary meeting or event, then make the sim invisible. The assumption is that a sim with teleport open to the public is, well, open to the public. Reading claims by the shooters that they are really friendly gave me a good laugh though. Afterthought: same sentiment applies to visiting sim Tijuana!

Well..I'm sure we can all point fingers at each other and claim "You must be a skinny dork in your mom's basement!". It's easy to do.
About 90% of what goes on in SL would be considered very geeky or dorky by a large chunk of the earth's population.
Roleplying is just that, playing a role. Whether it be mafia, pirates, vampires, cowboys, furries, gangstas, escorts, aliens, etc. To make sweeping, uninformed generalizations toward everyone associated with any of these roleplaying genre's is a bit ignorant and silly.
I've roleplayed a vampire in SL and had lots of fun. I've roleplayed a mafia don in SL and had lots of fun. I may have some geek blood coursing through my viens, but I'm certainly not a coward, skinny or mom-dependant in RL.
I'm sure there are some idiots and assholes in SL mafias. I've met some. I'm also sure there are some cool, fun-loving people in them. I've met some. Same as with any activity in Second Life. There will always be good people and bad people.
As far as the D/s and Gorean crowd goes in Second Life, I have considerable experience with them. For the most part I've found them to be one of the most respectful, kind and open-minded sub-cultures within SL.

You guys have the wrong conceptions about Mafia in SL. Speaking as a member of a Mafia family you can quote me when I say that not all Mafia Families are gun toting, trigger happy people on a power trip. But lets not forget that there are people out there that have "Mafia" or "Family" tags in front of there names becasue they think it's cool and are in fact not a true Mafia in SL. So I think I get now where your hostilities towards us are coming from. Alot of the people in this thread don't know me or haven't met me and I'm sure the same applies to others in Mafia Families. If you did then you would see that we're not like that. A few people in this thread have at one point met me and can't say that I haven't been nothing but respectful towards them. And that also applies to alot of other members in the Mafia. I have met alot of great people in the Mafia that have shown me nothing but respect and kindness. This isn't television people. We don't bullie folks around, we don't intimadate innocent people, and we definitly don't make people buy protection (too funny). So okay, we like to shake things up from time to time by shooting each other up. So what. Don't judge a book by it's cover until you've read it all the way throught. I know alot of builders, scriptors, and designers that are in Mafia Families. So yes we do bring something to SL other then gun fights. I challenge those that think otherwise to come to Heaven Island and see first hand what we can do and have done. I myself enjoy spending time designing Formals and building "neat structures" like Hot Tubs and Pools. Heaven is also another builder and an extremely talented one at that, Spuds designs some really great mens clothing, Mysterious designs womens clothing and tattoos, her work speaks for itself. Hyperized Designs is owned by Mafia members and have some really great animated furniture. And I know a great many more people that are very talented in the designing, building and scripting field. But unfortunitly all you people see are the tags we wear and a few bad incidents with people that like to pretend to be Mafia to deguise the fact that they are nothing but trouble making griefers and nothing else. And no we are not pencil neck geeks, or old fat men that haven't seen our appendages in years, or minors for that fact *wishes she could be 16 again (sighs) ahh, those were the days*. Eddie I'm sorry you got caught in the cross fire at TJ but it happens. I myself have been a victum on morethen one occasion but you don't see me posting in here crying over it. And Jade, we were trying to be polite to you, more then once, but you thought it better to ignore our polite request and antagonize the situation. Then got nosey when what was going on wasn't any of your buisness. So to me you asked for it and got it. So crying about it is useless. Like I said before people, don't judge the book by it's cover....read it throught. You might like what it's about.
And Stacy hun, Costello's have much love for you to sweety. *hugs*

Diamonique, I'm not being funny or anything, but it really would be much easier for me to read your posts if you added a space between the paragraphs when it's as big as that. I find myself losing my place all the time and I know some people give up altogether.
Thanks!

From: Spuds McCoy I am speaking of SL not RL. I happen to know what the RL Mafia is all about. But why criticize what some enjoy , once again, ROLE PLAYING. SO if someone came here and decided to ROLE PLAY an Al Quaeda terrorist that would be ok and people wouldnt have the right to criticize him? Or maybe you think that Mafia is in any way better than Al Quaeda? What if someone decided to role play an SS officer? By chosing what to "role play" you take your responsibilities, and you open yourself to the chance of being criticized by people that see you.
