Well, first, I don't feel empowered to single-handedly reform the forums. Moreover, it is not my job. It is the job of those who wrote and posted the Forum Guidelines to make sure that people can feel free to post with being attacked or insulted..

It is a sense of entitlement, yes. I feel entitled to the forums which the Forum Guidelines promised me. I feel I deserve that as a paying player, and that we all do. It is the responsibility of SL to provide this, for all of us. As it stands, the forums serve only a sub-section of SL players - those who don't mind (or actively enjoy) all the abuse, slander, and everything else that goes on here.

I submit these standards are not acceptable for a large group of diverse people. That the modus operandi here is more that of a corner neighborhood bar (if it's that good, which it definitely isn't), rather than the standards that would be expected of a larger public meeting place, such as an airport, a PTA meeting, a political meeting, a doctor's office, a department store, a movie theater, a restaurant, etc.

To explain it more to you, Chip, from a totally personal point of view: It's like I have my choice of restaurants and bars to go to. Let's say I can choose between Appleby's, Manuel's Tavern, Mitty's Teahouse, or Ravin' Joe's Topless Pleasure Dome. I'd choose any of the first three (all of them actual places in Atlanta), but I would not go to the last. (Not a real place.)

Yet here we have no choice. This IS the only official forums. The analogy I made is far from perfect, but it does show how I am being dragged where I wouldn't normally go, assuming I want to participate in the official forums of the game. I would like that to change so that the forums can appeal to more people, and more people like me would like to hang out here.

As an individual, I can only speak up as one individual. My hope is that more will join me in posting the same desires, and that, then, can and will effect change.

Cocoa, while i don't like your finger wagging in the forums and continual replay of history, you absolutely have a right to push for this. Yes, it would be nice if people didn't start swiping at each other, no doubt, but it's going to take a technology or manpower investment from LL.
