How Would You Define an Inflammatory Post

What is a tantrum are the abusive remarks that people make in response to a comment instead of stating their agreement or disagreement.

Some folks, you just can't reach.

It's no more illogical than your own position, Pleasure. Tolerance goes both ways. Some people are ascerbic. Some are lacking in good logic or critical thinking skills. Some aren't gifted with tact. They are who they are and are no more obligated to conform to your expectations than you are to conform to theirs.

You made the comment that this is not preschool and I agree. Adults should be able to ignore the things they don't like and let it bounce off them without having to call for a playground monitor. By making the discussion about the manner in which other people post rather than about the intelligent subjects you'd like to talk about, you're part of the problem, not the solution. For every post on this forum you might think is inappropriate there are probably ten from people complaining about it.

Given that complaints aren't going to magically make people develop self control, logic should tell you that complaining isn't productive. It only serves to polarize people more. We all come from different cultures, social styles, and comfort levels. I think everyone deserves my respect, not just the ones who think just like I do. Part of being respectful is being tolerant of things that don't conform to my personal social idiom. If logic in service of productive discourse is your goal then it seems to me that logic dictates the most productive stance regarding the manners of other posters is neutrality. When you stop the discussion to chastise people you become equally guilty of hindering it from moving forward. We end up with threads like this... talking about the discussion instead of having it.

Yes more tantrums. Hopefully everybody that is partaking in the mob mentallity "let's all bash Pleasure" tantrum will be banned and have their posts deleted.
Otherwise, we can be pretty sure about the moderating in this forum.

This all sounds good. But this is what I see happening:

The overall level of the forums is dragged down to the lower common demoninator.

This has the effect of excluding people from participating.

While raising the common denominator would NOT have the effect of excluding everyone.

Everyone can easily participate in and feel welcome in a forum in which personal attacks are not allowed, and a certain level of civility is required.

Everyone will not participate in and feel welcome in a forum where personal attacks, humiliation of individuals, marginalizing of individuals and their ideas, rampant superiority, foul language, VERY distasteful pictures, and the like go on as a matter of course. Particularly not when others jump in to approve of all those things. And possibly suggest to the person objecting that he needs to (a) be an "adult" or (b) grow a thick skin.

I favor forums where what is PROMISED to be the environment by the Guidelines, for all paying players, is actually more or less the case.

Not one in which the same dozen or two people insist that we have the lower level. I'm tired of having it their way. Their way is far from the truly adult way. Why should it be their way?

The Forum Guidelines say it shouldn't. Yet there is very little enforcement of such guidelines. In fact, the sentence about not insulting others or you may risk being banned is a complete joke.

This is why we need forum reform.

I took the time to reply to you in good faith, and all I got back from you was the same comments about logic repeated ad nauseum. You label anything you disagree with as an inlfammatory remark/tantrum. How can someone even begin to approach that?
